Jquery - Implementing Ajax Calls Based On Scrollbar Position?
Mar 1, 2010
I have noticed that in Google web reader (that lets us read RSS feeds on the web), the page does not seem to load ALL the feeds. Instead, as I scroll down, I can see more and more feeds (and the size of the scrollbar increases if you know what i mean)
I assume they do this by finding the position of the scrollbar and do an AJAX call. Is this correct? How would I do this in ASP.NET?
what is the correct way to pass data through the AJAX calls and have it be model-binded into an object inside my Controller Action?
So far, I've read in some places that jQuery sends data in key-value pairs, so I don't have to do anything extra, while in other places, I've read that I have to first use a JSON deserializer and then bind the result. I've currently implemented my Controller Actions as ones that accept HTTP POST.
Is there a jQuery technique to select all the page controls/divs with a non-zero scrollbar position?
I'm trying to solve a problem faced by many; essentially after a partial asp.net postback all the controls/divs that had a scrollbar with a non-zero value (ie: were scrolled down to some position) are reset to the zero (top of the scrollbar).
My approach is to have a jQuery script save all the scrollbar positions for all the controls/divs contained on a page and after the postback, restore all the scroll bar positions. Is it possible, can it even work? If it is, how do I use jQuery to select all the divs with scrollbars and then save those positions.
I have a simple question. I need to keep my position af postback in a scrollbar, where a panel consists of 20 equal user controls. I have attached the code below for the simple form and for the user control.
I have added MaintainScrollPositionOnPostback="true" in the webform, but still the position moves back to the top position of the panel after postback.
I have a web page that regularly refreshes on post back, and all of this works fine. However, a user has made enhance the page, which I need with:
1) There are 3 asp.panels on the page, which are scrollable vertically. When the page refreshes, the scroll position returns to the top. The enhancement is to maintain the position of where ever the scrollbar is on postback. How do I keep the scrollbar position on post back?
2) Within each of the panels are dynamically added web controls. These web controls contain gridviews, which are themselves contained inside div tags. These div tags can be hiddened and made visible by an image button. This hidden and visible state is actioned by some javascript on the page. Again, the user has asked how it is possible to maintain the state of these div tags on post back, i.e. those that are closed and those that are visible. Currently, the state is on postback for all the div tags to be visible. How do I maintain the state of the visibility of a div tag during postback?
Old school coders are used to having every server control create events in the .cs files.. for example.. Getting the Initial load of data, Saving Data, Deleting data... and then binding datasources to the server control..
New school coders want to do it in Jquery + AJAX calls to .svc files... That gives automatic no post backs so that is a advantage... and I think its a different way of thinking.. All of a sudden the UI related events are all being done in Jquery..
What is the most modern and efficient way to go ? How can I convince the old school coders to let us you this new paradigm ? (assuming it is the better way)
I am working on web application in which all of the data I am submitting back to the server is being done on the client side using JQuery AJAX calls to my .NET web services using JSON. This works perfectly to enhance my user experience and greatly reduces post backs, etc. What I am looking for suggestions on is securing the web services being exposed to the client side from being used by anything but my JQuery code on my site. The security hole that I see here is that since the client-side JQuery can access the web services, so could anything.
How do I go about making true ajax requests to an asp.net page? (Not update panels). I read this tutorial but couldn't get it working. Is there a better approach? Or should this work?
I am trying to make 2 separate AJAX calls using buttons. What I want to happen is: when Button1 is clicked ProductsTable shows data from the webservice; when Button2 is clicked OthersTable shows its own data from the webservice. But right now, when either button is clicked, nothing shows up. I know the code works if there's only one of them and it's not wrapped around a .click function.
No error messages. ASP.NET 4.0, JQuery 1.4.4. Not using ScriptManager. Not using UpdatePanels.
I have been moving my application to be more AJAX-based. Currently I have a web service call where I use jQuery to gather some textbox (string) and checkbox (boolean) results and pass it to a web service. Everything works really well, the response time is super quick. The only downside that I can see to this is
1) you need to use jQuery, which will add to the user's download time - this doesn't really affect my application too much because I am using jQuery throughout the site
2) users can see the code and potentially try to hack the web service because they know where it is
I am most concerned with #2. I've been reading a lot about .NET web service calls, using IAsyncResult,
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2e08f6yc.aspx, and I am beginning to understand the 4 methods available in this article. However, is there extra bloat using this way compared to the jQuery web service call?If there isn't that much bloat or lag time using this method, I'd like to convert my application. Which one of these 4 methods is best in a scenario where I am just returning a small string value? The 4 methods in the article are to wait for EndInvoke itself, which from what I read is not recommended because this may block the first thread; and this should not be used on a service that affects the UI.Create a WaitHandle to wait for the 'OK' before EndInvoke is called Poll the IAsyncResult for .IsCompleted, using sleep() and a Do While until IAsyncResult.IsCompleted is true, then call EndInvoke Pass a delegate function to BeginInvoke to be called once the operation is complete.
I have a WCF service returning JSON to jQuery ajax calls and presenting the results on an ASPX page. When the page is NOT under SSL, the ajax calls work perfectly. When the page IS under SSL, the calls fail. I understand that this behavior must be due to the Same Origin Policy (SOP).
So, how do I setup my WCF service to accept calls from an SSL-secured page? Does the WCF service also need to be secured? If so, how do I do this?
I want to know how to show A jquery lightbox modal from a link placed inside the listview. My Code Is As Follows.
[Code]....
I am using server side code to assign image to the image control.
And some javascripts to assign the href of anchor tag.
The Problem which I am facing Currently is as follows:-
If I am clicking on the image of 1st row then the jquery light box modal is working perfectly but when i am clicking on the image of other rows then its not working.
What I think, when the listview tries to repeat the rows the id of that anchor tag & image control is getting changed and the javascript which I am usiong to assign the href attribute of anchor tag, cannot find an id for that same anchor tag and the image control.
I am trying to write an ajax based tooltip for a website. The JS file searches the html page for certain keywords, which are fetched from an xml file. The keywords are searched using searchhighlight Jquery plugin. Then I use ajax to fetch the description of that keyword (or help) from aspx file(which just parses the xml doc for description of keyword)
I have been able to do everything except position the call to my mousehover functions. What has been happening is, when I hover over the first word, the tooltip gets displayed properly, but when I go over to the next word, the first tooltip gets displayed for a split second before the new tooltip loads. how to resolve the issue and make my code run smoothly? Here is the js file:
I am having an aspx page in which I am calling a user control. The user control I am using a pop up to display it when a user clicks a asp:linkbutton. In that user control I am having a textbox and I am calling a Jquery Blur to do some validation. While doing so the function is calling [blur] is calling twice. I just called an alert() with the textbox value. So I can see the alert is coming twice .What I need to do to avoid the second time. I need to do it only whenever the user going out of the textbox and that also one time.
I have implemented Continuous Page Scrolling according to this post given below [URL] But problem is. How to handle post back events on scrolling e-g On Scrolling i render a user control in ashx handler where I have a asp.net button with click event but don't know how to handle click event because on clicking it does not fire click event except submiting a form and redirect to ashx handler with white screen.
I've recently been using Steve Sanderson's knockout js library http://knockoutjs.com/ in my client side web development. I just recently found out that microsoft has contributed code to jQuery for a Data Link plugin that seems to duplicate what I like about knockout.[URL]
I am required to create a functionality like the "Top Tweets" of www.twitter.com,I started out thinking that it would be simple and just use a update panel and a timer with a gridview in the middle of it and just have it update every few seconds. but as you can see the problem here it updates the whole entire gridview and I just want to go ahead and add the new updates to the top of the page and not refresh the whole entire feed everyfew seconds.
I have three ajaxtoolkit comboboxes on my page where the user can enters his date of birth : day, month, year.
[Code]....
for the days and years a scrollbar is shown when the user hits the arrow button. For the months no scrollbar is shown with the problem that december is not visible to the user.
i have 4 comboxes (com1, com2, com3,com4) and 4 tables (tab1, tab2, tab3, tab4)com1 and tab 1 have master table relationships i.e when in com1 the name is entered tab 1 shows the result of that entry. the same is for the rest comboxes and tables.
Now what i am trying to do is when an user clickes on com1 and types the name of the employee tab2 tab 3 and tab 4 should be hidden. if com2 is clicked tab1 and tab3, ta4 shoud be hidden.etc
Currenty i am using this code which i do not like. Is there any easy and short way to do hide an show.
this is the code i am using
<script type="text/javascript"> $("#com1").on('click', function () { $("#div1").fadeIn();
I have an Usercontrol which has a update panel that being postback by a timer, and it is nested in a parent page which has its own update panel. Every time that the update panel in UserControl cause a postback to server my main page's scrollbar being reset to top or buttom of the page. I enabled viewstate of parent page but nothing, and when enable parent page's MaintainScrollPOsitionOnPOstback it cause a problem for Usercontrol updatepanel postback !
