I had someone ask me this question:how do you redirect to another page without causing hitting the server, or without causing a postback (i'm trying to remember the exact wording)?I assume you would us Javascript window.location?

I have a <asp:Wizard> that is only applicable for a logged-out user. If the user is currently logged in, he/she is redirected to another page. On one of the wizard steps, as part of the wizard, I ask for credentials via the <asp:Login> control and log in the user. This presents a problem.
According to MSDN: "When a user uses the Login control to log in to a Web site, all data in the view state and all post data is lost. Do not perform actions in the LoggedIn event that rely on the view state."
Because of this, my Wizard control forgets the step it's on after the login process. MSDN recommends: "If you embed the Login control in a WizardStep object, explicitly set the ActiveStepIndex property in a Page_Load event handler if the user is authenticated. The Wizard control does not automatically advance to the next WizardStep object in this scenario."
However, because all view state is lost, the redirect for logged-in users kicks in, sending the user away from the page. What's the best way to determine, at page load, which of the states the user is in?
Already logged in some time ago; needs to be redirected. Was just logged in from inside the wizard; needs to reach the next wizard step.
I was wondering how a page can keep the Accordion from refreshing it's selected index in a postback or when redirecting to itself. I wanted it to keep the index value of the last open page and somehow coax the accordion to have that open instead.

This has been a nagging issue for some time, but very sporadic and difficult to isolate.
From time to time, browsers that have authenticated on a web application, have been open for a while, have logged in and out of the same web application multiple times, have multiple tabs, are pretty much any browser (Chrome, IE, Firefox, Safari), and seemingly at random, lose their ability to retain an AuthCookie after being set and followed by a redirect. Closing the browser and starting a new session resolves the issue, as does opening up a different browser and attempting to authenticate.
Our team uses forms authentication for all of our websites and web application. This is a pretty typical setup where a login form is displayed, the user enters credentials and a cookie is set on the click event of the postback, then a redirect occurs to the same page where the cookie is then referenced and used to complete authentication.
In this situation

At this point, the authCookie variable is typically not null, but in these isolated circumstances that I've outlined above, the cookie comes back null after the redirect.
This happens very randomly, sometimes weeks before affecting one of our developers. As I said, restarting the browser resolves the issue.
Today I had it happen on our dev server while using Chrome. I had logged into the application, allowed the application to session timeout, and then attempted to login again. The attempted login then failed to set the cookie. I remotely attached Visual Studio to the process on the server to begin debugging. The entire time I could step through my code, even deploy new code versions to the server with updates, restart the app, restart IIS on the server, attach and reattach to the project, and the issue persisted in Chrome. In Firefox, I was able to authenticate without issue.
From Chrome, the login would validate, attempt to set a Response Cookie as outlined above. Prior to redirect, I could see the properly set Response Cookie, as well as its counterpart in the Request Cookies. However, on each redirect after a seemingly successful login, the Response and Request Cookie are gone.
I enabled Trace on the application to view the cookie collection:
There is a .WebAuth in the Request Cookies Collection, as well as ASP.NET_SessionId and several ASPSESSIONIDxxxxxxxx, but when the page loads, only the ASP.NET_SessionId and ASPSESSIONIDxxxxxxxx cookies are available in the Request.Cookies scope, no sign of the .WebAuth. However, in the page's Trace information after render, there multiple .WebAuth cookies listed, it is just that the page seems to have no access to them.
Primarily, on a working version after authentication there is both a .WebAuth Response and Request Cookie in the page's Trace info. But on a non functioning browser window, the Response Cookie is absent.
Has anyone else had any experience with this? It is such a nagging issue, and so sporadic, but I would love to be able to resolve it. My concern is that it may be affecting users and we would have no knowledge since the description of the issue is so convoluted.

iam using the Jquery Uframe with asp.net project.Iam getting a postback problem here.
In side the uframe ,button control getting postback the page even the client side method call also.
i tried with the Html button Control also by setting the type="submit" ,iam facing the same problem.
And I got very limited reference about the uframe(codeflex,codeProject).
Per different user mode, some pages should not be accessible by users unless they have a valid session key.In your opinions -- would it be better to have a list of acceptable pages in the master page, and check if the current page is valid for the current user? Or handle this on every child page?I'm thinking master page, just want to hear what your input would be.
View 2 RepliesI implemented the AsyncFileUpload control on a web page. This web page requires uploaded files to appear in a gridview. The gridview contains the following columns: "File Name", "Confidential" Check Box, and a "Remove" button to remove the uploaded file.
Since the AsyncFileUpload postback does not do a full page postback, I need to "force" a postback on the OnClientUploadComplete event of the AsyncFileUpload control in order to render the gridview after uploading a file. In the OnClientUploadCompleteevent, I use javascript to call __doPostBack. In this postback, I only bind my gridview and display the file information (I don't re-save the file).
The problem: On the AsyncFileUpload's first "partial" postback, the file is successfully uploaded, as expected. On the second postback that I force with __doPostBack, the file is re-uploaded. You can verify this by using Google Chrome, which displays the upload progress. The behaviour is as follows: After selecting the file, the progress increments from 0% to 100% and the file is uploaded. After this, the __doPostBack executes, and you can see the upload progress increment again from 0% to 100%.
How can I make sure the Gridview is properly populated, but that the file is not uploaded twice?

Flow:
Prelim) (HTTPS) Users authenticate using asp Login control
1) Users add items to cart.
2) (HTTPS)Users go to checkout page.
3) Users finalize their order, then click pay now after agreeing to T&C.
4) Server gets cart data (from MSSQL2005) and sets a transaction cookie (expiry set to 20 mins).
5) (HTTPS) Server Response.Redirects to an html page (in the same folder as the login protected pages).
6) Html page reads transaction cookie data and generates form fields.
7) (HTTPS) Html page posts data to hosted payment page (php).
8) User enters payment info and clicks pay now.
9) (HTTPS) hosted payment page posts info back to a .aspx page that checks if payment OK.
10a) If payment !OK, redirects to a declined page.
10b) (HTTPS) If payment OK, sets a verification cookie (expiry set to 20 mins). Then redirects to another html page.
11) Html page reads cookie data and generates form fields.
12) (HTTPS) Html page posts data to hosted verification page (php).
13) Verification page verifies (of course), if transaction ok.
14) (HTTPS) verification page posts data to a .aspx page that checks if verification OK.
15) If verification OK, process orders and do receipt stuff.
Issue:
This control flow was tested on an unsigned dev environment. SSL was being enforced, if needed on the unsigned SSL certificate. So we'd get prompts that certificate may be bad, but the control flow worked seamlessly.
However, now live with a signed SSL certificate, going from step 5 to 6, we are encountering a situation where some users (not duplicated every time, but verified that it does occur) when they click pay now and are redirected to the html page, they are forced back to the ~/login.aspx page (as if they were logged out).
Things to note:
a) The session did not time out.
b) The browsers have cookies and javascript enabled.
c) I can process the entire flow seamlessly on the same machine with other accounts, and occasionally, the same account.
So, basically, I'm stumped... Is this a viewstate error? A login control bug that won't let me redirect to an html page because it is now using a real SSL? Anyone have any experience with this kind of deal? I'm at a loss for solutions at this point.
I am not able to redirect the user to "SimpleUserLoginAfterRegistration.aspx" page if Administrator is in any one of the .aspx file inside Administrator Folder.

In logout link's click event i have written Session.Abandon() that will destroy the Session state.I am also handling Session_End event that is fired afterward (written in Global.asax). But one more thing i want is that after Session ends, login page should be redirected (opened).

I am using Windown Authentication.
Using Role based (Active directory groups) authorization, I am able to control the access to various web pages. If an unauthorized user reaches a web page, a small popup comes up (as shown in the attached bit map) asking for credentials. If the user clicks on "Cancel" button on the popup, it shows "Access denied" error.
Instead of showing the standard "Access denied" error, I want to redirect to another .aspx page with a more meaningful message.
