Remove Parameter From DetailsView ItemUpdating
Feb 23, 2010
Here's the setup
I have a DetailsView whose DataSource is an ObjectDataSource.
The ObjectDataSource has two methods, select and update, that are stored procedures defined in a TableAdapter.
The Select stored procedure takes 1 parameter--the record id--and returns the fields populated in the DetailsView.
The Update stored procedure takes three parameters--the record id, and two data fields.
The select process works fine. However, when the I submit the update, I get the following error:
ObjectDataSource could not find a non-generic method Update that has parameters: [all 21 table columns]
I am trying to only pass the (3) necessary fields to the Update stored procedure, but the DetailsView is apparently trying to update using all of the fields it received from Select. I know that I can access the NewValues collection from DetailsViewUpdateEventArgs, but I don't see a way to remove any of the parameters so that they match the definition in the stored procedure, the TableAdapter, and the ObjectDataSource.

I use ObjectDataSource and DetailsView for Updating records . my Bll input parameter method is an Object instead of regular parameter . So i though i could make my own ObjectParameter in ItemUpdating event of DetailsView and i need some modifiation on the data that user input on boudfield in detailsView . I don't know how to access BoundFiled data from ItemUpdating Method of DetailsView.

I have a detailsview that is a mix of textboxes and dropdown lists. Upon clicking update - i want to examine all of the fields that have changed and do a custom update. I am trying to capture the data using the ItemUpdating method, capturing 'e' as detailsViewUpdateEventArgs. If i specify DataKeyNames in the ASP:DetailsView and only use one key (the primarykey) then i can step through the e.oldvalues and e.newvalues examining the data - but i don't have access to the field names (except for the single key i entered).
If i use all fields from the DetailsView in the DataKeyNames parameter - then i have access to all the fieldnames via e.keys(n) - but at that point i don't have access to the e.oldvalues (count=0) I am greedy - i want the keynames, the oldvalues and the newvalues.

i'm beginning with a little question. So i have this scenario
[Code]....
So i have a Linq object named TCategory. When the user wants to edit this object he will have 2 fields id and categoryName and when he press update the UpdateCategory function will receive an already made object of TCategory type storing the data user has typed. The problem is that i also want to let the client to change the id of the object so i need to pass to the function the actual Id and the TCategory object. How can i do this?

I've been struggling with trying to figure out how to do this for about 2 weeks now. I have a DetailsView with several template fields in it. The first field (Unit_Code) is a dropdownlist item where the user would select a Unit based off the Unit_Code's Unit Name. Further down I have a field named (System), system needs to get it's value from the selectedvalue or selectedindex that the user selected in the (Unit_Code) dropdownlist. I have another dropdownlist item (Component) that will need to get the selected value from System to sort on, so once I have the first Unit_Code to System figured out I should be able to figure out the System to Component part seeing as it will basically be doing the same thing.
My aspx page code is below:

I use an objectdatasource programmatically to use a parameterless method when SearchWord variable is empty and a Search method with one parameter when SearchWord is not empty, the event I use is objectdatasource selecting so that I can adjust parameters conveniently, I have a problem here: I can add a new parameter and set its value but I can't remove a previously added parameter from objectdatasource selectparameters and an error raises because of this, this is the selecting method:
[Code]....
Both adding and removing the search parameter takes place in this method while adding works removing the added one Not works.

How to use RadioButton in FormView in EditTemplate to get information on the field, for example:
in the template:
<Asp: FormView ID = "FormView1" runat = "server" DataSourceID = "SqlDataSource1"
Width = "907px" onitemupdating = "FormView1_ItemUpdating" DefaultMode = "Edit">
<EditItemTemplate>

<td>
<Asp: RadioButton ID = "CHR_TIPOPESSOAFISISCARadioButton" Text = "F" runat = "server" Checked ='<%# Convert.ToBoolean (Eval ("CHR_TIPOPESSOA"). ToString (). Trim (). Equals ("F")
"true": "false")%> 'GroupName = "RadioButtonTipoPessoa" />
<Asp: RadioButton ID = "CHR_TIPOPESSOAJURIDICARadioButton" Text = "J" runat = "server" Checked ='<%# Convert.ToBoolean (Eval ("CHR_TIPOPESSOA"). ToString (). Trim (). Equals (J)

So, to sum is up, I have a FormView:
[Code]....
And the relevant code:
[Code]....
What does work: I do see the right info if the formview is shown but when I click on the Update button it just doesnt fire the corresponding itemupdating event.
Can someone see what is wrong or missing?
What do I want to archieve: Just update the subscription's credits and its type: Upgrade, Prolong.
-edit-
New finding: I added 'onitemcommand="fvSubscriptionEdit_ItemCommand"' to the formview and a corresponding event method with a simple code that throw a exception(just testing) but it doesnt enter the method but does whine when the method is missing. So why does it whine if the method is not there but doesnt enter the method if it does exist? I presume that this is the same problem.

I need to do a custom update for a form view (I think/know), as some of the parameters that are required for updating values should not be updated by the users, such as userid of the person performing the action which is passed back to the database for auditing purposes.
Additionally, there are some fields, such as LastUpdatedBy, LastUpdatedDate that need to be seen, but not edited. The stored procedure on the backend takes care of this, and these are not parameters for the Update method. The FormView by default is trying to pass all these values back to the database.
Lasty, the select query of the object datasource is a stored procedure that performs several joins based on PF/FK relationships to bring back more meaningful information than just a FK, so some columns are just the joined value, and can not be updated directly. Again, formview is trying to pass these parameters
So given that, I have defined the following even handler for a simple form view:
(not sure if this is the way to proceed given the above, but...)
protected void FormView1_ItemUpdating(object sender, FormViewUpdateEventArgs e)
{
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Clear();
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("projectID", ((Guid)e.Keys["ProjectID"]).ToString());
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("projectName", (string)e.NewValues["ProjectName"]);
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("description", (string)e.NewValues["Description"]);
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("projectTypeID", "1");
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("statusID", "1");
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("productID", null);
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("isComplete", ((bool)e.NewValues["IsComplete"]).ToString());
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("isActive", ((bool)e.NewValues["IsActive"]).ToString());
ProjectDetailsDataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("userid", Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey.ToString());
ProjectDetailsDataSource.Update();
FormView1.ChangeMode(FormViewMode.ReadOnly);
e.Cancel = true;
}
My questions are as follows:
1) Is this the right approach?
2) Is so, when I cancel the edit (because I did the update myself), and change mode, the FormView returns to read only mode as inteneded (good so far). However, when I hit F5 (refresh), the ItemUpdating method is called again, and updates the database.

I´m trying to link the gridview to detailsview and I used this page as my inspiration:
http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/ctrlref/data/detailsview.aspx
But I´m trying to do that programmatically, not with the sqldatasource. So I wrote the method that binds data to Detailsview and I call it in the page_load. The problem is that I have to click two times on the select button to view the detailsview. The first time I click on the select button nothing happens.

Is it possible to change a parameter's property after the uer has made a selection or filled in another parameter field? I'm using VS2005
Case:
- 3 parameter fields; Country,Station,Carrier all three are textfields and are allowed to stay 'blank'.
- When the user enters a Country-code in the 'Country' parameter field, the 'Carrier' parameter should become a required field.
I did some searching on the net, but haven't found the solution. I started to wonder if it's actually possible?

On selection of option 1 , a country parameter should be enabled with all countries' values defaulted.
Option 2 should enable Region parameter with all the Regions values selected and country parameter should be displayed.
Option 3 should disable both Region & Country Parameter.
I am using SSRS 2005 with Enesys tool as add on.

One of our customers has a report with a single value string parameter that has over 1000+ possible values. selecting single value from 1000+ choices results in bad UI, among other things.create another parameter that acts a filter for the other parameter. So you would have Param1 with say 25 choices and selecting a choice would narrow down the option for the second parameter.Is this the best way. What is the best practice for handling these kinds of parameters?

I know the back button always presents a problem, but this one doesn't make any sense.
I have a simple details view and a button on a page. The button sends the user to the homepage. I am trying to prevent the user from being able to use the detailsview if they click Back in their browser.
This is the button click event
[code]....
When the button is clicked...oddly the user is sent to the homepage then when they click the browser back button they are sent to previous page with the detailsview still visiible.
I know I am missing something, can someone fill me in?
Why is the detailsview still visible?
