I am want to take the old values of the details view from the detailsview1_itemupdating event and add them as a parameter to my sqldatasource.

So how can I then add this as a parameter to my sqldatasource?
I have a Detailsview grid with an SqlDatasource, this DVG is only going to be used to insert records. The primary purpose of the DS is to populate a DDL control in the insertItem Template that I created my code is this:

The DDL control populates correctly, but when I try to modify the INSERTCommand property in my DS, I try to assign the value to my parameters "TesterID" and "TesterDate" but the only options for controls to pick from, is the DGV but not the DDL in it. I assume it has to do with the InsertItem template but even if I reset it I still cannot pick the textbox as a control that would give the value to my parameters.
I did find a workaroun by build a public method and calling it in the onclick event of the insert button but looks like I have to create another connection to the database which to me seems unnecessary since I already have a DS and everything. how can I do this without having to use my method. here is my method just in case.

i'm beginning with a little question. So i have this scenario

So i have a Linq object named TCategory. When the user wants to edit this object he will have 2 fields id and categoryName and when he press update the UpdateCategory function will receive an already made object of TCategory type storing the data user has typed. The problem is that i also want to let the client to change the id of the object so i need to pass to the function the actual Id and the TCategory object. How can i do this?

when I click on "update" button of my detailsview I have the same values on my db table.It seems that the update method don't get my new values inserted in the "boundields" in editing mode.Below there is my code.

Background: I open a page that has a detailsview control using Accessdatasource. It is automatically opened with the row I want to update as I get there by passing the key as a URL parm. The update works for all fields except 2 template fields I added. I added a field for update date and updated by which I want the code to populate in the code behind so the user does not enter it. I have the same login on another page using an insert and it works fine. I cannot figure out what is wrong on the update and I tried everything. The code behind is in the OnItemUPdating event. code behind:

I am trying to use a DropDownList in a DetailsView for the ItemTemplate, InsertItemTemplate, and EditItemTemplate. I must bind this DropDownList to a SQL-Server support table using a function that returns a DataTable. I am not allowed to use a SQLDataSource in my backwards IT department. So, not only do I need to load the DropDownList, I also need to make the SelectedValue equal to the current record that I am viewing, editing.

I would like to move all of this to codebehind so it's easier to work with programmatically. For instance the PracticeId is a selection from a dropdownlist that is populated from another table... i need to determine what the current selection is first so i can display the record / bind properly.

I m having a problem in specifying this @Option parameter from a DropDownList which contains only two list items - AND and OR. On the Basis of the Selected Value from this DropDownList i want to execute query like

I have a SQLDataSource control that is calling a database stored procedure, and passing quite a large number of paramaters, and the stored proc returns records that populates a gridview control. When I walk through the code behind to determine the values being passed, is there any way that I can see exactly how the parameters are being formated and passed to the stored proc?

So, when the page loads, it grabs that name and uses it in the stored proc, which I'm which I'm wanting to designate in the sql datasource. But it only gives me choices of querystring, cookie, session, control, etc. My question is how to reference that variable as the parameter in the datasource?

When I try to insert data all I get are null values and when I update, none of the values are updated. The formview looks like its working, but just doesn't. The primary key is an identity and it auto-increments by one.

I have two image buttons in a gridview, one to approve the opening of the record and one to approve the closing of the record. I have added a CommandName to each button (OpenApproved and CloseApproved) and in the grids rowcommand I would like to update the database with the Username of the person clicking the button, Username goes into either the OpenLeadApprover or CloseLeadApprover field depending on which button is pressed. The grid has a sqldatasource with an Update stored procedure which has three parameters, @WorkOrderIDWhat I have tried to do in the RoeCommand event is declare a variable for the sqldatasource and add the parameter value to it, then run the update command. I've been struggling with trying to figure out how to do this for about 2 weeks now. I have a DetailsView with several template fields in it. The first field (Unit_Code) is a dropdownlist item where the user would select a Unit based off the Unit_Code's Unit Name. Further down I have a field named (System), system needs to get it's value from the selectedvalue or selectedindex that the user selected in the (Unit_Code) dropdownlist. I have another dropdownlist item (Component) that will need to get the selected value from System to sort on, so once I have the first Unit_Code to System figured out I should be able to figure out the System to Component part seeing as it will basically be doing the same thing.

I wanted to add the update code in the Gridview_RowUpdating event since it is a complex update I need to do.

I have ASPxDataView and ASPxRadioButtonList within item template. i also have two SQLDataSource's (first fill ASPxDataView, second ASPxRadioButtonList). They are using other database tables connected with the foreign key. Is there any way to pass parameter to my second sqlDataSource (id) to fill RadioButtonList property ? i mean select * from TABLE2 where id = @id ; (@id is a value from TABLE1 which is a value of column returned by first sqlDataSource)

What I would like to be able to do is to allow the users to do an UPDATE on both tables.
Like if you crreated a SQLDataSource using just one table as it's source. You can use that SQLDataSource for a gridview.
Then in the gridview you can display all the data from the table but you can also EDIT all the data in the table through the gridview.
But if I create a SQLDataSource using 2 table joining them together with an INNER JOIN with a Primary Key in one table and a Foriegn Key in the other table. I can still use this SQLDataSource with a GridView to display the data but I can't EDIT the data through the gridview for the 2 tables.
Is there anyway to do this using a SQLDataSource and GridView?
OR is there another way to accomplish this?

I have a DeatilsViews bound to an ObjectDataSource, I need set some default values for Insert and Update mode, which event(s) on which control(s) will be best to handle this?
I tried to set the default values using TextBoxes inside InsertTemplate, but the values are not saved to DB because 2 way bindings are lost.
