I have to retrieve the data from the web service and this data should be kept in process's memory and use it where needed.Do not like to call web service every time.Is there any method to do this?
View 2 RepliesRunning an ASP.NET application in its own app pool on Windows Server 08 / IIS 7.
Server keeps hitting 97% memory usage and sticking there, trying to work out if that is our application's fault.
My main question is, does all of the memory used by an application get displayed as the working set for the w3wp.exe process associated to it? Our application (according to IIS7 and the worker process in task manager) is using less then 350mb. I want to know if it is possible for our application to be using 5GB of memory but only showing 350mb for the process?
I'm tearing my hair out here - I'm building a .NET web application at the moment and every time I either want to access the database/build a page or create a new datasource I get the following error:A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)I also get it in SQL Server Management Studio 2008 quite a lot too. I know what you're thinking - search the web for the error, read what the nice people have to say. Only I've spent the last week or so doing this, and I'm no closer to resolving this.

View 6 Repliesi am running with an unfamilier issue with jquery ajax and wcf service . i have created a simple wcf service and trying to show it on a asp.net label... the wcf service just returns a string which has to b shown on a label. the url has been set on jquery ajax url to call the wcf service using rest. but somehow i am not getting the desired thing done . the ajax cannot retrieve the data from the wcf service , here are the code snippets.

I have created a windows service which runs round the clock
In every cycle it communicates with SQL data base and updates around 5000 employees records. Memory utilization is more.
My System configuration is about 3GHz CPU and 2GB Ram.
If I leave the machine for one full night memory utilization goes above 1GB. Service will be running but no work is done in the database.
There is a Web Service installed on Amazon Server. Exposed WebMethod should start an executable. But, it seems that process (executable) started by WebMethod has not permissions to finish its job. If a WebMethod is called locally (using IE on Amazon VM) I can trace some events into log file placed on the path: C:\LogFiles. But, if it is called from remote machine, there is no even log files. Locally, on my machine all works fine.The question: is there any way or settings in IIS7 to allow to my WebService to create process that can do everything I want to do? In web.config file I added a line:
<identity impersonate="true" userName="USERNAME" password="password"/>
(userName and password are, of course, written correctly in the file).
Also, I tried to use impersonization as it is explained here, but there is no result. My process can't do its job, it cannot even trace actions into log file. Locally, on my machine, everything works fine.
how to change settings or whatever into IIS7?
EDIT: In addition to the main question: my WebService is not able even to create log files on the path: C:\LogFiles - although it is able if it started locally, but remotely there is no simple log file that contains some string. How to allow it to create simple text files?

I use it in a webservice, i start it in a new thread and it return exit code 1 (error, i'm trying to do a video convertion with ffmpeg library), i impersonate ASP.NET to use a local account with permissions to read and write files, when i run it in my machine running or debugging it works but know thta the web service is running in IIS doest'n.
Is there any way we can process payment through web service. For example I have a two websites, from first web site can I use second websites web service to process order.
View 1 RepliesI am seeking your expertise in ASP.Net with regards to multi-thread support of WebService in a scenario , that is If a WebService-Client is making simultaneous calls from the same process, the requests will be serialized at the WebServices so that only one-call will execute at any one time , on the contrary, if those calls are sent from different WebService-Clients ( Instances/Processes) , they are processed in-parallel by WebServices.
Have you ever experienced the same with ASP.Net, and what configurations/Settings should be followed, in order for a WebServices to concurrently process simultaneous calls form a single WebClient , when deploying a large number of Web-Clients' instances/processes is impractical in a project-context.
Wondering if there is a performance difference between letting a long running process hang in asp.net vs running the process via a windows service. I have done this once before and the windows service was much quicker and didnt bog down my system, whereas the asp.net request seemed to wreak havoc.

I am confronted with an error I didn't receive on my development machine (windows 7, iis 7.5, 64 bit).
When my wcf service tries launching my query running against a local sql server this is the error I receive:
Memory gates checking failed because the free memory (43732992 bytes) is less than 5% of total memory. As a result, the service will not be available for incoming requests. To resolve this, either reduce the load on the machine or adjust the value of minFreeMemoryPercentageToActivateService on the serviceHostingEnvironment config element.
I have both VS 2005 and 2008 installed on my machine. 2005 is fine. For 2008, literally any asp.net project I try to create gets this eror. I try stepping into the code, and the error occurs apparently before anything that I can trap is loaded. There is no information written to the event log. I have tried this with a "Hello World" webpage with nothing else going on. Seems unique to my Windows Server 2003 machine.

My doubts are ,1. Is passing reference variables in such chain is correct? will it cause such exeption? Does .net support ref variable call directly?
We have a wfc layer that wraps the business classes and database access and use a client that lives on the database layer. Amongst our group we are attempting to form standards. Some want to have the client call the web method and pass the page they are requesting and the page size. Pass that to the database and then page in SQL Server use RowNum.Some want to cache the full list of objects in http cache on the service tier and page in memory. They concern here is memory use on the server.
Which would be best for a medium number of users with potentially large number of records to manage (say 30K) Is it better to cache them all in memory and work from there or page at the database as the application scales?
A customer reported that our asmx web service is continually increasing in memory (mem usage as well as private bytes). We are able to reproduce the problem in our lab with Windows 2003 Server SP2 (fully patched) on some of the machines. The customer is using Windows 2008.
We created a Hello World web service targeting the 2.0 framework built under VS2005 SP1 and a test client that continues to call it. The memory increases steadily - approximately 40K per client request. If the test app is paused, the memory remains the same. When it is closed, the memory drops. Explicit calling of GC.Collect does not drop the memory.
We have run the memory profiler on the service and the leak is all native memory. We have uninstalled/re-installed the Framework on one of the machines but no difference. To our knowledge all of the security and IIS settings are not modified. We have compared app pool, default web site and virtual directory properties to machines that have no problem and they are identical.
I am building an appplication in Flex which shows and lets edit values from a SQL Server DB. To start out, I made a Web Service which verifies the username and password. I hava a simpe table with two columns: username and password I managed to send values to the web service but I am stuck with the logic to verify that the username is the same as in the DB.

I know that in an application the My object has an Application object which has the Info structure, that contains the Version string that I can use. How can I get the version information for the WCF service to a log?

I have a memory leak somewhere that I cant find. Every few days my server will crash, and just before that I log a ton of SQL errors stating that it is "out of memory".
I cant find it anywhere, all of my connections are being disposed like so:

Then I call the connection from my pages like so:[Code]....
That is all pretty straight forward. The connection is disposed because it is implementing the USING clause. I am opening the connection in my connection manager class, and not where it is being utilized?Or, could the problem be in the below method I am using to populate a SqlDataReader:[Code]....
Now, at first it appears as though this could be the problem because the Connection isn't part of a USING clause, however doesn't the 'Data.CommandBehavior.CloseConnection' pretty much do the same thing. This makes sure that the connection is closed when the reader is closed, right? Here is how I call that above reader from my login page code behind:[Code]....
So the DataReader will get closed even without the .Close() because it is in the USING, and the connection should get closed because I specified it in the ExecuteReader paramters right?
I have a memory issue on my websites and am trying to get to the bottom of it. I have downloaded the 14 day trial of ANTS Memory Profiler and have been playing with it to get a grip of what it's telling me. In the memory options on the timeline, I can see Bytes in All Heaps and Private Bytes etc but I am not sure which ones I should be focusing on to see where the memory spikes and doesn't go back down.I am profiling a ASP.NET website using ASP.NET 2.0.
