SQL Server :: Connection To Database Expires Causing An Error?
Aug 9, 2010
I have an asp.net web page which works with a database. When I first upload it I never disposed the connections so after using the different modules of the application for sometime it would suddenly stop working saying the connection pool filled or something like that.To fix it when a user clicked a button I opened the connection, tell the database what I needed and finally disposed the connection.
This seemed to fix everything, in fact you can work with application all you want, the problem comes if you stop using it for certain time.So for instance, I have a module in my webpage where user can capture information for a certain product. When the user clicks in one button the info gets into the database. If the user is continuosly capturing data everything works fine, but if it goes for about 10 min when he clicks the button he will receive an error. To fix this the user has to log-in again.
Every module opens a connection to the database to verify the user identity, but then after it verifies it I dispose the connection so I don't think there is a problem.
I just installed sql server 2008 R2 on my computer. I am trying to connect to sql server throught my C# code and everytime I run the C# program,
I get this error "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) "
The connection string that I used in my web.config file is
[Code]....
I am not sure what am I doing wrong, but I followed this article below step by step and still I am getting the same error
I am having problem when i was trying to attach .mdf file while create a new connection of SQL server, create a new connection of SQL database file and open the database in Server Explorer. I am using VS 2010 Ultimate and SQL Express 2008 R2.
Here are the error message.
1. Attach .mdf in SQL database file and open the database in Server Explorer
I am using VS2008 and oracle 10g ODP.Net. The oracle database that I used in the connection is working and tested it using sql plus. The connection string when used in a GriDView works perfectly. Now when I created a new listview control with the same connection it gives an error.Database schema could not be retrieved for this connection. Please make sure connection settings are correct and the database is online

I have VS 2010 professional. I am trying to open "ASP.Net Configuration" through Project -> ASP.Net Configuration.
It pops up the Notification about the ASP.Net Development Server localhost but doesn't open ASP.Net Configuration in the default browser.I clicked on the Root Url (by double clicking on the 'development server' at the right bottom from Notification Manager).
It throws following error
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Clicking on "How do i use this tool".It opened page with error.
I'm trying to send a string of XML as part of the query string. Normally I'd POST this XML but I'm sending it to a 3rd party system that I can't POST stuff to. So, as it goes, I need the 3rd party system to request the services of one of the pages in my system. (explanation: the 3rd party system produces PDFs of my web pages. I give it a URL to my page, and it PDF's that page. So, the XML file contains data that I need to generate the page) Anyway, I'm getting my query string as follows:
I give the 3rd pary system this URL, and it calls my page.. except the request doesn't reach the page. It's failing into the Application_Error handler with this message:
"A potentially dangerous Request.QueryString value was detected from the client (data=[my XML data])" As I know the data I'm sending is safe, is there any way I can make this work?
Using vb.net/asp.net 2005. in the global.asax page in the application error page I am getting the exception information as follows:
[Code]....
To find out when there are any exceptions when users are using the system, then the ErrorDetails are being auto-emailed to members on the IT team to help in troubleshooting. The problem is this: I want to find out what page is the user is on when the exception happens, sometimes the stacktrace does not list the aspx page. Does anyone know how to get this information?
I've created a small website with a simple sqlite database using vwd 2010 .net 4. In dev and test envionments everything works fine, however when i promote to my hosting provider i receive the following error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:
If a user enters "<" or if it already exists in a textbox inside an update panel, I am getting "internal server error 500" during post back. I believe the page suspects a HTML injection and is attempting to stop it. I could use Page.EnableEventValidation to avoid it but I really don't want to do that. Is there any other way, I could resolve it (like replace < with > or something like that)?
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.
I am trying to create a simple login page in ASP.NET C# but am getting some error.
I googled about the error, and tried all the solutions but to no avail. What am I doing wrong? The error is:
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
I think it's something to do with my connection string which is as follows:
"HCL" is another machine connected to my PC through the LAN and this database, "GS", resides on it. Is the problem with the value I am giving in "Server" attribute of the above code? If not what else may I be doing wrong?
Following is the error I am getting while accessing some of the pages on my website.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
It is trowing an exception and giving the about mentioned error.
i get error A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)
Is there a way to catch a database exception and then redirect to an error page? I have a data access class that I use to make a sql connection and then functions that call it to execute my SQL commands. My problem is that if my database is not available I cannot catch that error. Here is the code I am using in my class:
Protected Function GetConnection() As SqlConnection Dim ret_conn As SqlConnection ret_conn = New SqlConnection(System.Web.Configuration.WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("EUCNET00617").ToString()) ret_conn.Open() GetConnection = ret_conn End Function
This issues has been driving me nuts. I am trying to follow the tutorial on [URL] I am trying to connect to a database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The way I do this is by right clicking on the "Data Connections" > Add Connection. Afterwards the Add Connection window comes up, I make sure my data source is "Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). And, I choose a server name; the only server I can choose is DomainSQLEXPRESS. The issue is when I go down to the "Select or enter a database name" drop down box, I do not see my database listed. I have also made sure in the SQL Server Management Studio that I have given my user all the privileges for the database. I know my explanation is kind of vague, but would anyone know the reason why I would not see my database?
I have sql server 2008 express edition. I'm trying to use the wsat to set up the provider but I keep getting the error:
Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider.
i bind a dropdownlist to a database and later on, on button click i connect to database to get some value in a label. My 1st part works fine but when i try to do the second part i get the error message as

Not sure why it works if i connect to SQL 2005 on another server, but now that i have SQL Express on the same server as the pages, im getting the following error: I have attached my connection string within my web.config and also how its being called within the code behind. Now this page was written by another programmer some time back.. so not sure if the method he used to do this is the best or only way. But i have connected to other SQL database with other applications with alot less code.

I published my web.The problem is that the path to the DataBase is not good and i dont know how to change it.heare is the error:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I've set up URL Rewriting per Scott Guthrie's guidance (Scott's blog - Approach 3: Using an HTTP module to perform extension-less url rewriting with IIS7) and I'm using Url Rewriter.
OK, so it was a piece of cake to setup and everything runs perfectly on the dev server (cassini). I was all excited and put it on the production server and it immediately choked - the site won't even load and instead gives a "500 internal server error"
Production server is a shared hosting environment running IIS 7 in integrated mode , ASP.net 3.5 and SSL.
I have another HTTP module installed called Security Switch , which I disabled to remove it from the equation. I don't think that affects anything since it was already running fine on the dev server and prod server, but I'm not 100% sure and wanted to throw it out there if that helps diagnose.
I've followed the setup instructions precisely, triple checked everything in web.config and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm guessing it must be getting stuck in the IIS 7 pipeline somewhere. Can the SSL have something to do with it?
I am using dynamic query to get data from database (SQL) Whenever the query execution time is more than 1 min, i get a Timeout expiry error in my web page.
I am building a web site and am trying to run the web site administration tool.
I have reinstalled SQL Server 2008 express and have run the command line administration utilites. When I try to run the administration tool, get the following error when I click on the security tab is
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
I have ensured that I have user instances are enabled
When I click on Choose Data Store I get the following error
Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider.
I am facing a strange problem .can't figure this out.my web site's all pages are running fine except home page.i got this error
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I'm running a website on a SQL 2008 database. At the moment most of my data is in cache but what I want to do is be able to update the data on a regular basis, say every 3 hours, maybe more frequently. Obviously I can set the cache to expire and pick up new data, but how can I replace part of the database (because some tables are populated by the user) in the background, so that when the cache expires the new data is picked up?
I notice when I upload data through VS, it wont let me upload if the DB is in use - so how do I get round issues like this?
