View 1 RepliesI am developing applications that use Microsoft sql server databases. I use SQL Server Management Studio to create these databases and add table, etc. I would like to be able to make a duplicate copy of one of these databases so that I could use one database for production and the other database for testing. Also is there some way that I can copy a table in one database to another database?
View 2 RepliesIs there a way to copy a row from one table and insert to another but at the same time insert extra values to destination table?Let's say source table Item has values:
ItemID
ItemType
ItemProducer
ItemModel
Destination table ItemHist:
ItemID
ChangeDate
ChangeReason
ChangedBy
ItemType
ItemProducer
ItemModel
I want to copy row from source table where itemid is 25, insert it into destination table and add extra values: ChangeDate, ChangeReason, ChangedBy. I tried:
INSERT INTO ItemHist (ItemID, ChangeDate, ChangeReason, ChangedBy, ItemType, ItemModel) VALUES (ItemHist.ChangeDate=GetDate(), ItemHist.ChangeReason="why not", ItemHist.ChangedBy="me")
SELECT ItemID, ItemType, ItemProducer, ItemModel FROM Item WHERE ItemId=25
but obviously it didn't work ("The name 'ChangeDate' is not permitted in this context. Only constants, expressions, or variables allowed here. Column names are not permitted.").
I'm having a gridview in my aspx page with checkbox, User can select one or more than one record(s) at a time and clicks on delete button, Then i'm constructing an object of my DTO and adding all the checked row's Primary Key (DataKeyNames - GUID's in case) to a serializable class and generating an XML and sending it as parameter to the Stored Procedure.
My Doubt is, can i bulk delete all the rows from database table those are present in my XML document??
If it works, I can do bulk update with XML only, i already did bulk insertion by generating an XML..
My Another Question is, Will it affect the performance? Each time when i construct an DTO object and adding it to the Generic List??
WHich one is better, I mean ObjectDataSource or SQLDataSource or my XML method?
My XML will be like this
<root>
<Customer>
<CustomerID>GUID1</CustomerID>
<CustomerID>GUID2</CustomerID>
<CustomerID>GUID3</CustomerID>.....
