how to change DB type of int back to value 1 after deleting.
I mean if you got some data in sql database and table looks like
SomethingID DB type int
Something DB type nvarchar(150)
If youve got 10 records then youve got 10 IDs when you delete those 10 records and then make new one SomethingID is ID 11 not 1
I have an asp.net mvc 2 application with a SQL Server database accessed by the Entity Framework ORM. Now I found out I had used the wrong datatype for one of the fields in the database - int instead of double.
Now, this is not a big commercial application, but it is nevertheless already in use internally in my company. It works fine, but the users would need to be able to enter decimal values rather than just integers...
So my question is, can I change the type of the field after the fact so to speak, and not lose the data already entered? Of course I would have to change the references to this field in the model and everything that references it, but is it possible at all without losing the data?
I have a major problem. I have windows 2003 serverm in it I have installed sqlserver and on it several databases that was published for months. Now, the windows 2003 server crashed and I cannot login ti windows anymore. What I have done is to create a new installation of windows and installed again the sqlserver...
Now, how do I get back the latest database from the previous corupted installation? I still have access to the files in the previous installation.
I'm dynamically binding tables and sub tables using nested listviews. On the client side I have a piece of jQuery that is toggling the visiblity of TRs witin the tables in order to provide a group expand / contract view option.
On postback I'm obviously loosing my class changes that I have applied via jQuery. I'm wondering what the best approach to maintaining these client side class changes is? I've considered creating a hidden input control per table to store the indexes of the visible TRs at the time of expanding them. The intention being to then look for the indexes during postback / rebinding and add the visible classes to each corresponding element.
Is there a better approach or some native method of passing back the client side style / class change to the server during postbacks?

I learned that i need to use Ms SQL Server management studio express. I can't figure out how to connect to the database. looks like I need to select a server type, but nothing comes up for me to select. The databse was made using visual developer 2008 ms sql server, so i thought something like "SQl Server 2005 or 2008" comes up, but it didn't.
I'm a little frustrated here. I have turned the default database offline then used windows explorer to copy the database to another location but when I tried to take the database online again this error came out:
Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'Zephere-pcephere(JuLian Yong)'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 4064) The cause is that the default database is set offline, How do I bring it back online agian?

In my VB.Net code I am using boolean type and it is later stored through a stored procedure to a MS SQL database table. I have so far allways been using "int" as the column type in database table because there is no Boolean type to choose from when designing the columns of a table in the MS SQL Express? Is it correct to use the column type int for storing Boolean values?

Now with this code above, if I insert a new record using the form below the gridview, it will reload and go to the new page if the insertion causes the record to appear on a new page, however when I delete that record, thus causing nothing to be on that page, the gridview visually just dissappears. I've got the gridview bound by a linqdatasource control, and on the page_load function I only databind if the page is not a postback.
How can I chnage the default language in a database? I'm running SMSSQL 2008 and I have not access to the server physical. I have to do this by SQL. I have vs 2010 and SQL Managment Studio

The client must insert the stock's pick-up date, expected time of departure (ETD) and expected time of arrival (ETA). The stocks will be called out using Grid View and the status, being one of the keys of the database, will be shown. Before the current date reaches pick-up date, the status must show "in warehouse", and after the current date reaches pick-up date and is before ETD, status must show that its "on the way to the port", and after ETD and before ETA, "in freight", and finally after ETA, "arrived". i want to get data from database of field Name and Gender, and then display it in Label name and gender. when i click save it move to next record and display name and gender that next record.
I am using VS 2008 that worked fine using the standard ASP.net security with the Web Administration Tool and SQL Server 2005.
I had to install SQL Server 2008 which also meant I had to uninstall SQL Server 2005. Now when I try to use ASP.net security by pulling the Login box from the toolbox to my form and then go to configure this I get an error.
"Unable to connect to SQL Server database."
How do I change this to work with SQL Server 2008?
I have a repeater which binds a set of data. Within this repeater is a column with various controls for updating, deleting, etc. These are image buttons which fire an onclick event such as "DeleteRecord". All this does is fire a stored procedure, passing in the ID of the record to delete from the CommandArgument of the object.
This works wonderfully... except for one rather huge problem. Once you delete a record, if you refresh the page, the record where the first deleted record used to be gets deleted. For instance... if I have 4 records

2 Record2
3 Record3
4 Record4
and I delete record 2... The page reloads with (which is fine):
1 Record1
3 Record3
4 Record4
...if I then hit refresh...
1 Record1
4 Record4
I assume this is because the erroneously deleted object (record3) is now in the same hierarchical place as the old object used to be and .net therefore doesn't know the difference, the page refreshes and fires the onlick event, grabbing out the command argument of the new object and deletes based on the ID as obtained from the commandargument of the new object. This is obviously a huge problem, if a client did this it would destroy data erroneously and I'm at a loss here. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I'm not sure if there is a better way to go about doing things or not. If there isn't, I need some sort of way to tell the page not to execute the event or to cross reference the ID of the object that is intended for deletion against the object itself...

EDIT Wrapped a LinkButton around it because I have some jquery code in here as well which stops the page execution to wait for user confirmation. Pressing "ok" continues page execution.

In the tutorial I am doing I have been requested to change a field in the colums properties of a table. The ID column is currentl displaying NO and NO again for "is aIdentity. I can Highlight the values but cannot change to yes. either in the properties talbe or in the properties window on the right hand side of IDE interface. How do I change that value?

View 2 RepliesI have been trying to delete nodes from a tree view that is being generated from a database. I have the code written and it works, but only on the root Nodes. It will not delete Parents/Childs/Leaf, it will if I delete the root, but I also want to be able to delete parent nodes and such.
Right now i have this code so far

I know that I can just use treeView.Nodes.Remove(treeView.SelectedNode) but was doing some error checking to see if I could firgue out what was going on. I am using VB6, I am not so worried about the database deleting at the moment. I would prefer not to use the Clear() method as this will remove all the nodes I only want to remove certain ones and keep the rest.
I've been googling for 2 days for the solution, but I couldn't find something useful. The problem is that I have GridView that is connected to the SQL database and that is how it is being populated. I added EDIT and DELETE buttons in the columns, but as far as I can see the event which handles them is empty.
