Using sql server 2005.
I have an Query A of fields that returns X number of records.
I create a Query B of same fields that returns X-80 number of records.
I want to find out the 80 records that are in Query A but are not in Query B. what is the syntax for this?
By right clicking on my database i created a query in server explorer. But where are this query stored can't find them back. I should aspect that their is a folder query's like there is a folder tables but this isn't the case.

At the moment it is producing each result in many rows when only 4 rows should appear. its the download column that is doing it. needs to be sub queried or something to display total in relation to month,gameid,userid.

I am trying to display this query result in an aspx page.
It is very slow in loading. Here is the query. The inner query inside the outer quesry is the problem.(Please see the underlined part in the query) - (If I remove that part it is very fast.)

Using a LINQ query and an aspx page with an Infragistics webdatagrid control, I am generating data that look like this:The data come from my dataset: There is another column which is TobaccoUse and it is N, Y, N, Y, N, Y, etc for each row. There is also a column for the rate, and it is 147.32 for all rows (test data). But it could and most likely will, especially as the ages increase, be different, like $250 for a 25-year-old smoker but $200 for a 25-year-old non-smoker.
The grid I want to present needs to collapse every two rows into one, so you see one row for 0-17 smoker and non-smoker, etc. I do not know how to write this query. I don't actually know how to write any LINQ query but I've enhanced some existing ones, or understood them, but it's easier to read something that exists than write it new or change it dramatically, which I believe I need to do.

Trying to get a query going in SQL server but I get bad/ errors in the query.I have a 2 tables. One is the "Project" table while the other is the "Task" table.Table structure is as follows.
Project table => ProjectID,ProjectName
Task table => TaskID, TaskName,ProjectID,Quarter, Hours
A project can have many task. The ProjectID in Task table is the foreign key which reference the project ID.What I need to do is to SUM all the hours in the Task table and group it by quarter and then group it by ProjectID. Output of the SQL should be in the form of projectID,Quarter, Hours.
Im trying to change the information on each row depending on the result from the query. Im thinking that at the minute my problem is that I'm only returning the first result from the query into the result.
e.g. query returns row 1 with '1232' row 2 '1243' but result is only ever set to '1232'

ID // Code // Shape
The ID is the integer identifier.
On one line the Code may be OX01 and shape Hexagon for example
Then the next line the code is still OX01 but the shape is Triangle.
What I want to do is be able to pull back data for every line that is equal to a unique Code column. in the above example OX01 Hexagon would be returned but not OX01 Triangle.
I've tried using SELECT DISTINCT but it brings back all records and doesn't filter them correctly.
I've considered having another column which could have Child/Parent data so that only the parent is returned but i'm sure there must be a better way of doing this.
I have a question which is insert multiple rows in a single insert? Is that possible?

I have the below c# method to populate an asp.net frontend control from a linq query. The only valid way I seem to be able to reference the query variable "result" is if I use the attribute "SingleOrDefault" but unfortunately this forces my query to return just the one single set of data for every unique primary key UserId value from my query, where I require the unique data attached to each different UserId value to be returned, how can I achieve this using linq? Note, I am passing the UserId value into my method from a public variable which is also below.

I am working on a small project. I ran the query below to get the maximum userid and increase it by 1 to create a new userid. However, when I run the query, it does not display the values that I enter into the database using insert statement. For example, if I open the table called login, I can see there are three records. If Irun the select statement, it only return one record which is the one that I enter manually when I first created the table. If I run the same select statement and give it a user id that I created, it returns the correct result.

i have the following objects:
Event:
- EventID (PK)
- GroupID (FK)
- StartDate
Group:
- GroupID (PK)
- GroupName
What i need to do is select the last 5 events for each group using LINQ to Objects. I tried starting with:

But i'm not sure how i only take the last 5 per group.
The simple way of doing this is to get the groups and then have a property on that which returns the last 5 events but if i databind this i will have to use a nested Repeater/ListView. Ideally i would like to have a row foreach event.
1. I have a GridView on my page and it uses sqldatasource with parameterized query. What I want to do is, on page load (where nothing has been selected so no parameter supplied), I want it to query everything (something like SELECT * FROM [this_table]) but since my SelectCommand is something like
SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [this_column] = @someParameters AND [that_column] = @someParameters.
Can I play around with default value to achieve something like that but how ? Now, when the page loads, it doesn't show anything (No Gridview).
2. On my page, I made something like (username, gender, address, and more) and one single search button. That means, no single control enable auto postback. What I am trying to accomplish is building dynamic query
(if username specifed -> SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username).
If both username and gender are specified (SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username AND [gender] = @gender) and you know the rest. How can I do this using GridView and SqlDataSource ? To my knowledge, I can only specify one SELECT statement in a sqldatasource.
I'm encountering a strange problem. Here is the scenario. I have built a query that accepts a parameter (WHERE LIKE clause).
I've tested this within the query builder and it returns exactly the number I would expect.
I then go back to my webpage and add the following controls:
Dropdown
Gridview
the user to make a selection from the dropdown. Postback on the dropdown is enabled so the page reloads and the Gridview displays the filtered results (via an objectdatasource). I've set the parameter to the dropdown control.
The trouble is when I run the page I make the selection in the dropdown no results are displayed. Even though the text displayed in the dropdown control is exactly the same as I inputted into the query builder when testing it.

But when configuring the Table adapter ,I try executing the query and i get 0 rows affected.
What could I be getting wrong in this case.

View 5 RepliesA follow up question concerning the DAL layer part .. The first question about dealing with large objectsI have one table (PlacesTable) that is connected by like 6 other tables (1:Many and Many:Many relations)
In my DAL should I put a big query that join the 6 tables + the m:m reference tables (btw it produces multiple data that I don't need Please refer to my old question) and place all the data in it's specific object property or, should I use a single query for each table and create an object for each fetched table .. and finally send those to the UI ?If I wasn't clear enough please let me know what I further information do you need to know!
