I wanted my local iis running application to connect my database in sql authentication mode rather than windows mode,
but it is showing errors of " Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'DBUser'. ". i also ublocked port from firewall,and allowed remote connection of mssql from sql manager, enabled TCP/IP and named piped protocols from SQL surface config, and with sql manager i also changed server authentication mode to sql from windows.
my datastring is <add connectionString="Data Source=PARTHIV-PCSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;User ID=******;Password=******/" name="LocalSqlServer" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
i made a user named DBUser in database as well i don't understand where it gone wrong ???
here is error log

Is there a way to change the mode of the formview control base upon a value that is retrieved from the database. Something along the lines below?
db value | formview mode
1 read-only
2 insert
3 edit
I want to change AspxGridView mode on server side. For example :
if( some clauses)
{
// Mode is : New row
}
else if (some clauses)
{
// Mode is : Edit row
}
My website session was expired within seconds. I tried every possible solution but problem was same. Now i changed my session mode to stateserver, but when i logout from website its giving error. Unable to serialize the session state. In 'StateServer' and 'SQLServer' mode, ASP.NET will serialize the session state objects, and as a result non-serializable objects or MarshalByRef objects are not permitted. The same restriction applies if similar serialization is done by the custom session state store in 'Custom' mode. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Unable to serialize the session state. In 'StateServer' and 'SQLServer' mode, ASP.NET will serialize the session state objects, and as a result non-serializable objects or MarshalByRef objects are not permitted. The same restriction applies if similar serialization is done by the custom session state store in 'Custom' mode. I have mention [Serializable] on class. And some of hyper links also not working after changing the mode to stateserver.
.net frame work. I know about few controlin .net and I have tried few programs also. Now want to learn a databaseconnection in .net so please provide me one easy example of such program.
View 2 RepliesI am a .net developer.I am not that strong in SQL.I need a simple query.This is from Northwind Database.
select 'Select All' as CustomerID,'Select All' as City union(select CustomerID, City from Customers
order by City)
i need to get output like 1st row should be Select ALl Select All and next rows should be output of this stat..(select CustomerID, City from Customers order by City)
i am not getting this...i can do by keeping the second query result in temp table and then using union... but i am looking without temp tables or simple query.
I'm debugging some unexpected behavior and while tracing in to the .NET framework I see a bunch of stuff like this:
if (Logging.On) {
Logging.PrintInfo(Logging.Web, this, SR.GetString(SR.net_log_n_certs_after_filtering, filteredCerts.Count));
...
}
But (as expected by default) the execution steps right over these. Is there some way to turn on the logging? Or is that just something that the framework developers can do while making special builds of the framework?
I found lots of sites telling me how to put a database into single user mode, but how can I determine what mode a database is currently in?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create a log that would keep a history of changes for a given item. For example on [HttpPost] Edit page I would log a change for a given article. So i've created a filterAttribute that would execute once the Edit action has completed successfully:
public class LogAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute
{
private int type; [code]...
I tried this:
filterContext.ActionDescriptor.GetParameters()
but this only returns "strings" as a parameter. "objectId" however is stored in a hidden field on the edit page.
My problem is regarding title written above. Currently I have some functions that rely on Sessions to do the job. Everything works smoothly when it is left to default. However, I do not like the idea of losing sessions in case of crash and I have modified my web.config to use Sql Server mode instead.
I have run the necessary commands to create tables and stored procedures in my database using aspnet_sql.exe. I am able to store values into the database but have not been successful retrieving them. Since it has been working fine with InProc mode, I think I can safely assume that there's nothing wrong with my codes. Here's my web.config setting:
<sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="true" cookieless="false" timeout="120" sqlCommandTimeout="30" compressionEnabled="true"
sqlConnectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=mytest;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=mytest;Password=mytest;"/>
When i run the following code i get an error when gridview changes mode to Edit. stating that you can't change string to decimal!
To get around the occurance i want to disable code when in Edit mode or resolve another way?
GridView1_RowDataBound
For Each row As GridViewRow In GridView1.Rows
Dim cell As TableCell = row.Cells(7)
Dim invoicetotal As Decimal = CDec(cell.Text)
is there a way to use sql server to debug locally and mysql onthe remote published version ? perhaps with web.config and AppSettings ?
View 3 RepliesI'm using MS Enterprise Logging Application Block in an ASP.NET website.
For production launch, I will set up a log listener in one of these locations:
Sql Server database
Windows event log
Text files
Which has the least impact on performance?
NB - I can't switch to Log4Net or ELMAH at this point, so don't suggest that in your response.
how can I enable database logging in my ASP.net application?
I am using VS2010 (ASP.net MVC2 Project) and would like to see logging that highlights database activity between the application and the database, including database connection establishment (as I do have a connection related error somewhere).
I'm using SqlServer Express 2008.
I'm very new to asp.net and c#, I understand the basics but don't understand how to create a login system using C# to connect and login using a Microsoft Access Database.
View 2 RepliesI've set up two ASP.NET applications on a machine, their web.config files contain the same applicationName value in AspNetSqlMembershipProvider item so they share users and roles.
The problem sequence is:
user logs into application A,opens new tab in a browser logs into application B, his login in application A is signed out and vice versa.
Should I use a different approach to sharing login information between two applications?
In my web application I want to log certain user interactions etc, like "User ABC joined Group XYZ" Therefore I want to set up a logging mechanism that logs into a Mssql database. I'm now trying to find a good database design to achieve flexibility.
First of all, I don't want to log strings like "User ABC joined Group XYZ". I'd like to separate the content "ABC" and "XYZ" from the template. So I'm looking for a templated logging database.
Something like this:
table: UserLog
IDLog int primary key [code]......
I think this database structure would give me enough flexibility to add/remove/edit specific log types (like 'User ABC did something else'). For example I might want to add some information to a specific log entry for future entries. Therefore I create a new UserLogTemplate that references the same UserLogType. That is how I would achieve downward compatibility.
Is that a database design that will work?
How can I chnage the default language in a database? I'm running SMSSQL 2008 and I have not access to the server physical. I have to do this by SQL. I have vs 2010 and SQL Managment Studio
View 1 RepliesI am an aspçnet developer on c# but I am not good at Java Script and jquery. what I need is so simple.
I will put some pictures in a div. let's say 10 thumbnails. this div will be called container. and then I will put another div. the div id will be displayer. there will be only one img tag. this image tag name will be myimg and this img will display my images. So I what that;
when I click a picture on the container div, I what the myimg's src to be the src of the thumbnail which have been clicked.
I spent a day trying to make Ent Lib Logging work and log anything into database or event log. I have a web application and console application with the same Ent Lib config but only the console application is capable to log into the Event Log. I tried everything with permissions but I don't know what exactly I am doing — which services should have what. It does not work!
I read articles like this[URL] and I want to try to give the ASPNET account those permissions. I am using Windows 7 and I cannot find ASPNET user account. So where is it?
This is the config file which is automatically generated from Ent Lib utility and it works only on App.config, not on web.config:
[code]....
I am new to ASP.NET which is causing me a lot of problems in implementing my project. My project is to create a website for students to anonymously ask the prof. questions during the class. Basically I am able to create the website that maintains the list of questions. Now the main problem is "How to notify the Professor during class". The professor has a laptop connected to internet at all times. How can I send a notification message to the professor whenever a question is asked? I don't need a mail notification but I need to display a message in the task bar notification area.
View 2 RepliesI have an asp.net mvc 2 application with a SQL Server database accessed by the Entity Framework ORM. Now I found out I had used the wrong datatype for one of the fields in the database - int instead of double.
Now, this is not a big commercial application, but it is nevertheless already in use internally in my company. It works fine, but the users would need to be able to enter decimal values rather than just integers...
So my question is, can I change the type of the field after the fact so to speak, and not lose the data already entered? Of course I would have to change the references to this field in the model and everything that references it, but is it possible at all without losing the data?
how to change DB type of int back to value 1 after deleting.
I mean if you got some data in sql database and table looks like
SomethingID DB type int
Something DB type nvarchar(150)
If youve got 10 records then youve got 10 IDs when you delete those 10 records and then make new one SomethingID is ID 11 not 1
I'm currently developing a software application for my client. Part of the project is to keep track of his stock's shipping status. The client must insert the stock's pick-up date, expected time of departure (ETD) and expected time of arrival (ETA). The stocks will be called out using Grid View and the status, being one of the keys of the database, will be shown. Before the current date reaches pick-up date, the status must show "in warehouse", and after the current date reaches pick-up date and is before ETD, status must show that its "on the way to the port", and after ETD and before ETA, "in freight", and finally after ETA, "arrived". What datatype should I use for the database and where should I program it so that it changes automatically accordingly ?
