SQL Server :: Clone A Client And Insert Multiple Emails?
Nov 3, 2010
I have a Clone Client feature that allows a user to select a current client, and click submit, and then several fields of data are copied from the selected client, and saved in the sqldb via a stored procedures under a new client number. (Makes it easy for users to add new clients, when client data is similiar)
The problem I run into is when the selected client has multiple rows of data for a field such as the email field. If the client to be cloned has 5 emails in another table named tClientEmails, I need to insert all 5 emails for the new cloned client in tClientEmails. How do I tell SQL to loop thru and insert all 5 rows. Here's my code so far which copies all the data except the email field. Just don't understand how to insert all the emails for the client that are returned. The inserting of the emails has to happen AFTER my sql below, because the new ClientID is returned as an identity parameter.
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE
@ExistingClientID int,
@BillingAddress varchar(200),
@BillingCity varchar(200),
@BillingState varchar(100),
@BillingZipCode varchar(20),
@BillingCountry varchar(200)

Is there a simple solution for duplicating table rows in SQL Server as well as all table rows with foreign keys pointing to the cloned table row? I've got a "master" table and a bunch of "child" tables which have a foreign key into the ID of the master table. I need to not only create a perfect copy of the master table, but clone each and every child table referencing the master table. Is there a simpler way to do this than creating a new row in the master table, copying in the information from the row to be cloned, then going through each child table and doing the same with each row pointing to the cloned row in the master table?
I'm using a SQL Server 2005 Database accessed through C# ASP.net MVC 1.0.

I have a website where users are going to enter recurring meetings/events. What's the most efficient way to insert this data? For instance, let's say a user wants to store a meeting for every monday at 8am. This would be a weekly meeting and I would run a loop and add 7 days to each meeting and then insert each row into SQL. Is it efficient to just run the insert command (cmdinsert.executenonquery()) for every week?

uploading multiple files from client to server with asp.net.I have been looking at the asp.net upload control but that is for one file (unless someone knows a better way to do it).
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.fileupload.aspx
For what I want to do I don't even really need a browse. I know the files off of the client are at a certain location. Is it possible to create a collection of *HttpPostedFile*s and upload those?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.httppostedfile.aspx
I don't think it is possible but would be glad to be proven wrong. Is there a different asp.net method or control that will easily allow uploading multiple files from client to server?

New at SQL and ASP.NET C#, bear with me. I have a form to insert into mulitple tables of a sql db. The form includes two listbox's, categoryIDlistbox and subcategoryIDlistbox, both with the ability to select multiple choices. Idea is that there is one record for the user created (Table1) and then that user can have multiple categories and subcategories assign to him/her in Table2
Table1:
userID
fname
lname
etc...
Table2
userID
categoryID
subcategoryID
If I understand correctly I need to use an array to take the multiple listbox items and save them to the tables. Not sure where the array goes in my code behind page to process the listbox and loop for muliplte selections. Here's my current code behind, where do I place the listbox array?

The objective is to send automated emails to which of whom come from the results of my LINQ to SQL script. As I am not sure on 'automated' stuff I was going to approach this in the aspect of having a field in the table that the results are taken from change after the emails have been sent i.e. obj.EmailSent = true; - So that everytime the admin homepage is loaded it isnt sending it out again (eliminating duplication).
From that I would have to create a method to detect a new year and upon that reset all entries of the EmailSent field in the DB table to 'false', but for now its just the initial problem thats causing confusion.
I was going to opt for a 'foreach' solution so that all the recipients, individually, get their emails and not all together. Its the 'foreach' I'm not sure on as well as setting all the results collected to the new value of 'EmailSent' to 'true'.
Here is my attempt:

I have developed an enterprise application in ASP.NET that sends emails using localhost SMTP server on the same box as the IIS web server for the ASP.NET app.
So right now any email sent from this ASP.NET app would hit internet firewall of the enterprise and then be directed to the right destination email address.
I was hoping to not hit the internet firewall of the enterprise, but hit the Exchange Server of the enterprise.
So the situation I am aiming for is: ASP.NET APP ===> Localhost SMTP SERVER ===>EXCHANGE SEVER 2003 ===>SEND OUT THE EMAIL
rather than ASP.NET APP ===> Localhost SMTP SERVER ===>SEND OUT THE EMAIL
So I still want to use the same mail configuration in my ASP.NET app of localhost as SMTP server, but just want the email to first go through Exchange Server before being sent out.
