MVC :: Model Metadata And Strong Types Views?

Jan 14, 2010

In my project I use Strong Types Views. Because I find it nice structured.

public abstract class AbstractViewData: View Page ( ICollection Foo; )
public class HTML Component View Data: AbstractViewData ( string Foo2; )

I have the same structure in my code, as in the corresponding pages. And here starts the problems. I would like to use HTML.Display (o => o.Foo) could be a customer for that matter. But my Strong Types Views have not posted Metadata Model into my classes.Like: Return View ( "FooView", customer); would. Is there a way to write some code that can solve this problem for me?

C# - Create Pages With Different Permission's Views For Different Types Of Users?

Mar 3, 2011

I need to create different page views for different types of users. I already asked that here: How to create pages with different permissions' views And even though Aldeel's answer works, it does not seem the best solution for me. I'll explain why. I need to show different views but it's not only like that. Each user can have access to different parts of the page.

Imagine a page 'X' with this structure

Field A
Field B
Field C
Field D

When user U1 from group G1 visit page X the system checks the DB for that group's permission on page X. User U1 can see Field A and Field B, but only edit Field A. User U2 that is set to no group visits page X. The system checks for his permissions on page X. User U2 can see and edit all fields. When user U3 from group G2 visit page X the system checks the DB for that group's permission on page X. User U3 can see Field C and Field D, but can not edit any.

I coudn't find a way to do that instead of filling ViewData with lots of data about that specific user's permission. In my example there are only 4 fields, but in my current project I have no screen with less than 20 fields. So I guess you can see how ugly and not productive that is. The idea is similar to a social network, as I said (facebook example). When a user visiting UserX's page can only see what UserX has allowed him to.

Architecture :: Class Design - Application Allows Admins To Add Types Such As Document Types?

Oct 12, 2010

I have an application that allows admins to add types such as document types and training types that are in seperate tables with a foreign key in a transaction table.

When structuring my class I decided to go with an abstract-like pattern (without the factory methods though). So I have a Type abstract class that defines my Save, Delete, and GetList methods. I have a training type class that inherits this class. The thing is all types have 3 main properties - defined in the abstract base - but have different source tables and thus different store procedures in my DbCommand object. So basically I repeat setting up the same parameters on all the derived classes. I would like to implement the common stuff in the base but I am getting thrown off by the difference in data sources.

SQL Server :: Data Types Uniqueidentifier Specified Cast Is Not Valid?

Nov 16, 2010

have a table that keeps track of customer data that is beyond the scope of the Membership Class, this table I am also using the Membership.CreateUser() generated user ID.When I use my INSERT statement however to create a new row in my table I keep getting the Specified cast is not valid error. This is my SQL Command (The ...refer to other fields)

Dim mySqlCommand As String = "INSERT INTO Customers (UserID, ...) VALUES (@UserID, ...)"
I send it to my Write_Database(mySqlCommand, Membership.GetUser(txtUserName.Text).ProviderUserKey, ...) function which then
I also tried sending he UserID as: CType(Membership.GetUser(txtUserName.Text).ProviderUserKey, SqlGuid)

Neither Works...both cause errors...My Write_Database Function is declared as follows:

Public Function Write_Database(ByVal MysqlQuery As String, ByVal UserID As System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlGuid, ...)

However Visual Studio shows that the error originates in the function calling code...

SQL Server :: For A Full Text Index, What Is The Difference In These Types Of Population Schedules?

Oct 11, 2010

I am using SQL2008 and created a full-text index on 1 of my tables. Going through the wizard, I was offered (2) types of population schedules as follows:New Table Schedule: Define a population schedule for a table.New Catalog Schedule: Define a population schedule for a full-text catalog.I am familiar with a 'Catalog' schedule for population which I do nightly and was similar to configuration on SQL2000 for a full text index. However, what is the difference for a 'Table' schedule vs the 'Catalog' population schedule? I have the definitions above, but if someone with knowledge could offer a better in depth explanation in comparison, and if I should use both or not (I have just a Catalog population scheduled currently),

SQL Server :: Genreal Guidelines For Indexes And Views

Nov 8, 2010

I've built a facebook like application where users can upload at most 10 images. I also have a search function for managers. I think I need to create som views and index the tables, but before I do that I'd like some pointers or tips on how to do this.I don't think we will get more than a couple of thousand users and...I have a few stored procedures that joins the users table with the items table to get items from a specific user. Would this be a good situation to create a view? Do I index this view too even if both tables are indexed already?

Is there some way I can set the login to automaticly have the correct permission to new views/procs I add?

C# - .NET MVC Partial Views And Routing - Using Ajax Calls To Trigger A New Request But Non Of The Partial Views Are Refreshed

Mar 9, 2010

I have an MVC view that contains a number of partial views. These partial views are populated using partial requests so the controller for the view itself doesn't pass any data to them. Is it possible to reload the data in one of those partial views if an action was triggered in another? For example, one partial view has a jqGrid and I want to refresh the data in another partial view when a user selects a new row in this grid. Is there a code example for this scenario (in C#) that I can look at to see what am I doing wrong? I am using ajax calls to trigger a new request but non of the partial views are refreshed so I am not sure if the issue is with the routing, the controller,

SQL Server :: Created Views To Display Header And Detail Records?

Apr 1, 2011

using sql server 2005

I have to create records displaying orders so the records will be displayed like so (this example has one header order and the order refers to detail records that are stored in another table:

<DISPLAY>
HeaderRecord: Order1
DetailRecord: Order1_Detail1
DetailRecord: Order1_Detail2
CloserRecord: closer for Order1
</DISPLAY>

anyways, I have the Header and Order record displaying OK in that order. I have 2 views, one for header and one for detail records and I am doing a union on them.

what I need now is each time before I display a new header record in my results I need to display a closer record that will display 3 fields derived from the header record.

I am thinking I should create a third view and then have the same joins as the header record and then UNION that to the other 2 views and order by orderNumber so it will stay with the same order.

SQL Server :: 2008 Views And Table Joins - Retrieve Data At Once When The Page Loads

Mar 21, 2011

I have a web page with a GridView and a table outside the gridview to display more information of the record when it is selected (like record details). I'm using data of five tables for this particularly window. I use one table of the five to bind the gridview the other tables are for the details, but I use like 1 or 2 fields of those tables. I'm binding the page with web services. I need some advice on which is the better way for doing this to make a faster web page.

In sql server I made a view with the five tables (all the tables relations are working perfectly). In the web service I call the view; and in the web page I call the web service to bind the page. Everything is working. All I want to do is retrieve from the server all the necessary data only once when the page loads and bind the five tables data (like 18 fields total) in the gridview which I only show 12 fields the other 6 fields are hidden, those 6 are for the details which I get with jQuery (that's another topic). Bind everything only once and manage the data on client side. Everything is working perfectly. Here is my doubt.

How are the maximum table joins I can make? To retrieve the data via web and not get a server time out error. Which is a better way to make a faster page? Make 2 views one for the gridview and one for the details and put each view in a web service; or make one view with all the table joins and one web service. Right now all is working but I have to make other pages that use different tables and joins and I don't know if the server gets me the time out error when the page is fully working.

C# - Define A Variable Of Different Types?

Feb 8, 2011

to define a variable/property of more than one type. Let's say i want a property TextWebControl that is a WebControl and also implements Web.UI.ITextControl(f.e. like a TextBox or Label). But i don't want to enforce that it is a TextBox or Label, but only one that inherits from WebControl and also implements ITextControl so that it also would work with controls added in future releases of .Net-Framework.

.Net-Framework 4.0

Edit: I have retagged the question and added VB.Net because it's my default language. Normally it's no problem for me to understand C# also, but i must admit that it's difficult to translate generic stuff to VB.Net without experiences and it's also better documentated in C# than in VB. So i would appreciate(and aceept) a working example of a VB.net generic type of ITextControl/WebControl.

From Marc's answer i understand that i need a generic class. But how do i instantiate it in SomeClass? This won't compile:

Class SomeClass
Public Property info As InfoControl(Of WebControl, ITextControl)
End Class
