SQL Server :: Genreal Guidelines For Indexes And Views

Nov 8, 2010

I've built a facebook like application where users can upload at most 10 images. I also have a search function for managers. I think I need to create som views and index the tables, but before I do that I'd like some pointers or tips on how to do this.I don't think we will get more than a couple of thousand users and...I have a few stored procedures that joins the users table with the items table to get items from a specific user. Would this be a good situation to create a view? Do I index this view too even if both tables are indexed already?

Listbox Selected Indexes And How To Use Them

Feb 27, 2010

I've got a list box that's populated by the user, I want to enter the selected items into an array, however I need both the indexes they have in the listbox as a whole, as well as their values.

For example, let's say that there is a listbox with 3 values and the user has selected just the first 2.

I would like to do a "for each" statement on only the selected items, so I would need their listbox indexes, the selected items indexes and their textual values.

I've tried multiple paths but all seem to just give me the textual representation of the selected item, but getting the correct indexes seems to be a problem for me.

Is It Possible To Show Two Active Indexes For A Multiview At A Time

Feb 23, 2011

I am having a multiview with

Activeviewindex=-1.

I will have some views assume 3. In one view i will have a grid view placed and the other 2 views contain some controls. Now initially i will load the view with grid view now if the user clicks on radio button available in the grid view i would like to show the corresponding view along with grid view. But as per my thinking we can only show one view at a time. so is there any possibility to show 2 views of multiview at a time.

Web Forms :: Setting A Masterpage's Controls TAB Indexes Programmatically?

Jan 25, 2011

I've tried to get a list of the IDs of the controls, but when I try to access he ID field of control at index 0 I get a null reference exeption, even though the collection has a .Count == 5. Any clue why or if it can be done and how? I've tried this both in Page_Load and off a button_click event.

Assuming you need the ID to set the proper tab index via the control collection object, the following code should produce the list of the names of the 5 controls. The output is '01234' to the multiline textbox... (the values of x)

AJAX :: AutoCompleteExtender Implementation Guidelines

Jun 1, 2010

use a textbox and the AutoCompleteExtender to search for the customer. For example, on the PurchaseOrder form, I have a textbox with a Customer field, and when I type in the name of the customer, the AutoCompleteExtender shows the possible matches.Now, it takes a few seconds to show the list of values, even with setting the correct values on the extender, and if the user types in the name of the company, e.g. Contoso, and leaves the textbox, there might be 2 Contoso's in the database. The AutoCompleteExtender does not continue when the user leaves the textbox, thus the CustomerId is not determined yet.

Finding DotNetNuke And Subversion Guidelines

Mar 19, 2010

I've Googled, Binged, and here at StackOverflow, looked through the related questions and searched, but I'm not finding what I'm looking for. I've also searched documentation on DNN.

What I'm looking for is any guidance (tutorials, blogs, step-by-step instructions for setting up a repository) etc from people who are experienced in using DotNetNuke with SVN.

We use SVN for all our source control, and have no problem with standard applications, because we pretty much built the repository and directory structure to work with our processes. This means when we do web sites, in Visual Studio, we do file based web sites, rather than setting them up in the local IIS. It just makes things easier for us.

However, with DNN, it appears that even if you get the source code, it is expecting to be set up in the local IIS, which means additional headaches for us.

For example, we are moving all of our source code off our local C drives, and onto a shared drive on a server. This is to enable backups in addition to our normal source control. (This was a management decision). So that means that we need to change the virtual web app when we make the move.

Has anyone come up with a good way to work around this? Can DNN be set up so that the developer web server in Visual Studio can be used, so that we can treat it just like any normal web app? Am I missing something obvious?

Design Guidelines For Developing Class Libraries?

Jan 18, 2010

our dev shop uses the naming guidelines as laid out in MS's MSDN content "Design Guidelines for Developing Class Libraries". It's a pain though having to refer to this via the web only. Does anyone know if this content is available in PDF or CHM format? My devs are resisting reviewing the webpage and I think sticking a portable file in their face might be more successful.

Forms Data Controls :: GridView Not Updating Indexes To Include New Items?

May 26, 2010

I have a gridview bound to a List<> which shows all compliments received by our company. The list is refreshed every time the page loads and (IsPostBack == false).When I run the application, the list binds to the gridview and all is good. I am using the gridview.SelectedIndex value to return the correct item from the list, add it to a session variable and move to a new page to edit it.This works perfectly until I insert a new record on a separate page and then return to the default page. The list refreshes correctly and displays the new record in the gridview, but the gridview indexes seem to still be attached to their previous records i.e. clicking the edit button in the top row (index 0) returns the data from the 2nd row (index 1).I've tried binding the list directly, and I've tried using an objectdatasource. I've also tried setting EnableViewState and EnableCaching to false on the gridview (and the objectdatasource when using it). None of this has updated the indexes.

C# - .NET MVC Partial Views And Routing - Using Ajax Calls To Trigger A New Request But Non Of The Partial Views Are Refreshed

Mar 9, 2010

I have an MVC view that contains a number of partial views. These partial views are populated using partial requests so the controller for the view itself doesn't pass any data to them. Is it possible to reload the data in one of those partial views if an action was triggered in another? For example, one partial view has a jqGrid and I want to refresh the data in another partial view when a user selects a new row in this grid. Is there a code example for this scenario (in C#) that I can look at to see what am I doing wrong? I am using ajax calls to trigger a new request but non of the partial views are refreshed so I am not sure if the issue is with the routing, the controller,

SQL Server :: Created Views To Display Header And Detail Records?

Apr 1, 2011

using sql server 2005

I have to create records displaying orders so the records will be displayed like so (this example has one header order and the order refers to detail records that are stored in another table:

<DISPLAY>
HeaderRecord: Order1
DetailRecord: Order1_Detail1
DetailRecord: Order1_Detail2
CloserRecord: closer for Order1
</DISPLAY>

anyways, I have the Header and Order record displaying OK in that order. I have 2 views, one for header and one for detail records and I am doing a union on them.

what I need now is each time before I display a new header record in my results I need to display a closer record that will display 3 fields derived from the header record.

I am thinking I should create a third view and then have the same joins as the header record and then UNION that to the other 2 views and order by orderNumber so it will stay with the same order.

SQL Server :: 2008 Views And Table Joins - Retrieve Data At Once When The Page Loads

Mar 21, 2011

I have a web page with a GridView and a table outside the gridview to display more information of the record when it is selected (like record details). I'm using data of five tables for this particularly window. I use one table of the five to bind the gridview the other tables are for the details, but I use like 1 or 2 fields of those tables. I'm binding the page with web services. I need some advice on which is the better way for doing this to make a faster web page.

In sql server I made a view with the five tables (all the tables relations are working perfectly). In the web service I call the view; and in the web page I call the web service to bind the page. Everything is working. All I want to do is retrieve from the server all the necessary data only once when the page loads and bind the five tables data (like 18 fields total) in the gridview which I only show 12 fields the other 6 fields are hidden, those 6 are for the details which I get with jQuery (that's another topic). Bind everything only once and manage the data on client side. Everything is working perfectly. Here is my doubt.

How are the maximum table joins I can make? To retrieve the data via web and not get a server time out error. Which is a better way to make a faster page? Make 2 views one for the gridview and one for the details and put each view in a web service; or make one view with all the table joins and one web service. Right now all is working but I have to make other pages that use different tables and joins and I don't know if the server gets me the time out error when the page is fully working.
