Saving Data From A Web Form To A Local File
Mar 4, 2011
I am trying to code (.net) in the autosave functionality without clogging the network. I am trying to capture data from a webpage into a file on the local drive and automate save every 5 mins. Then finally when the user hits "save" the data should be pulled from the local file to update the data base.

I am trying to display a local .html file in a web page. The file uses javascript to display some information about my phone. In the executable, I am retrieving two values out of the registry. I would like to pass these values in a query string (I think that is the correct terminology). Something like file://\Program Files\TestTest.html?type=newtype. I have attempted this with using webbrowser.navigate, but that is giving an unhandled exception when it tries to pass the URI string. Obviously, I have no experience with this and am using the wrong method. There has to be a simple way to open a new webpage in a form and pass it this type of string.
how to implement such a function? I have been attempting to implement this with Visual C# using the .net CF for Windows Mobile.

I have a form where the user enters their first name, last name, email address etc.. and then they also have the ability to enter 'cottages' that they are interested in viewing (ie. The cottage name, cottage address). The user then needs to be able to 'save' this somewhere and enter another cottage into the same form.
Finally the user will submit the form, and all the user details, and cottage details will be emailed to admin.

byte[] data = file.OpenBinary();
FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"C:UserskrgDesktopxyz.pptx",FileMode.Create,FileAccess.Write);
BinaryWriter w = new BinaryWriter(fs);
w.Write(data, 0, (int)file.Length);
w.Close();

There is a hyperlink to a local file...for instance....C:/text.txt. This is not possible, because ASP.net does not allow links to local files. But, links to files on network drives such as W:/test.txt are working ok. how does the browser know which drive letter is local,and which is networked? How does it know that C: is local or D: is local etc, and that W: is a network drive?

A variety of files (pdf, images, etc.) are stored in a ntext field on a MS SQL Server. I am not sure what type is in this field, other than it shows question marks and undefined characters, I am assuming they are binary type.
The script is supposed to iterate through the rows and extract and save these files to a temp directory. "filename" and "contenttype" are given, and "data" is whatever is in the ntext field.
[code].....
This works, but the file should be saving to the server instead of popping up save-as dialog. I am not sure if there is a way to save the response to file.

Using the Interop for Excel 2003 I had a nice little link that saved or opened the repeater content as .xls. Now we are using Excel 2007 and I get file format error messages. When I click the OK button on the error pop-up Excel closes. Does anyone out there know how to convert my code to handle the .xlsx format? I've been reading up on Interop for 2007 but none of the examples seem to work for this particular simple task. Here is my code from the "Export to Excel" button click:
Protected Sub btnExport_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExport.Click
' Send HTTP headers that specify Excel filename, MIME type, and character set
Dim sTemp As String = "attachment;filename=CoverageCase" & Session("OpenCase").casekey.ToString & ".xlsx"
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", sTemp)
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"
Response.Charset = ""
' Create objects used to render the controls
Dim strw As New System.IO.StringWriter........
I found a thread from a couple of years ago dealing with this but there was no solution [URL]. There were a couple of tortureous work arounds but neither work for me.

I'm using ASP.NET MVC 2 and am struggling with saving child entities. I have an existing Invoice entity (which I create on a separate form) and then I have a LogHours view that I'd like to use to save InvoiceLog's, which are child entities of Invoice. Here's the view:
<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<TothSolutions.Data.Invoice>" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server">
Log Hours
</asp:Content>.......
In the SaveHours action, it properly sets the values of the InvoiceLog entities after I call TryUpdateModel but when it does SaveChanges it doesn't update the database with the new values. Also, if you manually update the values of the InvoiceLog entries in the database and then go to this page it doesn't populate the textboxes so it's clearly not binding correctly.

I was attempting to use a gridview, but found that it was a little to restrictive in terms of formatting. So I'm using a DataReader and a StringBuilder (using the Append method to attach to the Literal control) to build a form. The form is pretty simple: labels, radio buttons, and textboxes. The appended data was practically taken from a classic asp page (with just some minor tweeking). For the most part there will always be 5 records on the form to loop through and save (sometimes less...never more).
Now comes the tricky part. I want to save the information on my form, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Do I use the Append method to add a save button to my form. And if so, how do I save the data (I couldn't use the codebehind could I)? Do I use an asp:Button and if so, will it recognize the form since it was build dynammically?

I need to save a file into special folder.
if (TextBox1.Text == s)
{ MessageBoxResult mbr = MessageBox.Show(this, "Do you want to save file?", "saved", MessageBoxButton.YesNoCancel); // if (mbr == MessageBoxResult.Yes) // { // //string path = string.Empty; // string path; // path = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData) + "abcFile"; // if (!Directory.Exists(path)) // Directory.CreateDirectory(path); // }
It creates a folder abc if it doen't exist, i need to save s where s is a textfile.

In our application, we allow user to upload documents which can be PDF, Doc, XLS, TXT. Uploaded documents will be saved on web server. We need to display link for each document user uploaded and when user click on that link, it should open relevant document. it is expected to have required software to open relevant documents.
To upload document, we use saveAs method of FileUpload control and it works absolutely fine.Now, how to view it?I believe, i need to copy/download file to local user machine and need to open it using Process.Start.For that i need to find user local temp directory. if i put path.GetTempPath(), it gives me web server directory and copy file there.
File.Copy(
sPath + dataReader["url"].ToString(),
Path.GetTempPath() + dataReader["url"].ToString(),
true);

I have a function that downloads an image from a DB, saves it to a Temp directory and passes the string back to an app that opens it. Ran fine with .NET 2.0, but throws a variety of exceptions in .NET 4.0. (like System.AccessViolationException was unhandled).It somehow seems to relate to the saved file still being locked.

I have inherited a project which has many .ddl file's, I just need to get access one of them. I have managed to amend the .ddl file by using Reflector which outputted all the files into a specific folder on my C: drive. So now I have a bunch of files outside of my project. How can i recompile these files to create the new .ddl file so that i can overwrite the old one in my project? I have tried adding the new files as a new class project and building the site again, but no luck.

I have the following code that creates a new Excel file in my C# code behind. When I attempt to save the file I would like the user to select the location of the save.
In Method #1, I can save the file my using the workbook SaveCopyAs without prompting the user for a location. This saves one file to the C:Temp directory.
Method #2 will save the file in my UsersDocuments folder, then prompt the user to select the location and save a second copy. How can I eliminate the first copy from saving in the UsersDocuments folder?
Excel.Application oXL;
Excel._Workbook oWB;
Excel._Worksheet oSheet;

I am using ASP.NET 3.5 with iTextSharp and I have the following code:
var templatePath = Server.MapPath(@"~/Templates/template1.pdf");
var newFilePath = Server.MapPath(@"~/TempFiles/new.pdf");
PdfReader pdfReader = new PdfReader(templatePath);
PdfStamper pdfStamper = new PdfStamper(pdfReader, new FileStream(newFilePath, FileMode.Create));
AcroFields pdfFormFields = pdfStamper.AcroFields;
pdfFormFields.SetField("Box1", "007");
pdfFormFields.SetField("Box2", "123456");
pdfStamper.FormFlattening = false;
pdfStamper.Close();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=new.pdf"));
Response.WriteFile(newFilePath);
Response.End();
The above code fills out a pdf file and saves the new file to the TempFiles folder. It then prompts the user to either save or open the file. Can I achieve the same functionality without saving the file to the TempFiles location?
