C# - Creating And Saving An Excel File?
Apr 29, 2010
I have the following code that creates a new Excel file in my C# code behind. When I attempt to save the file I would like the user to select the location of the save.
In Method #1, I can save the file my using the workbook SaveCopyAs without prompting the user for a location. This saves one file to the C:Temp directory.
Method #2 will save the file in my UsersDocuments folder, then prompt the user to select the location and save a second copy. How can I eliminate the first copy from saving in the UsersDocuments folder?
Excel.Application oXL;
Excel._Workbook oWB;
Excel._Worksheet oSheet;
Excel.Range oRng;....

Is there any mechanism for saving an excel file automatically. The Code which i used for Generting Excel file is
Code:
HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear()
HttpContext.Current.Response.ClearContent()
HttpContext.Current.Response.ClearHeaders()
HttpContext.Current.Response.Charset = ""
HttpContext.Current.Response.Buffer = True
[Code]....
_strBuild contains the information to be displayed in the excel
The above code when i use it prompts user for open/save an excel file. Is the any mechanism for saving an excel file automatically.

I need to be able to read an excel file from a file upload control but I can not save the file to disk first, it must be done in memory.
[Code]....
Above is my code for reading the data file if it IS saved to disk, but again, I have to be able to do this without saving the file to disk, it must be done in memory. I have not been able to find any sample code anywhere on how to do this from memory, everything seems to force the file be uploaded, saved to disk, and then read in the connection string, which again I can not do.

I need to be able to have a user upload an excel file, then immediately work with that file and save the contents in a database.
I know how to do this if I save the file first, then open it using OleDB, BUT I would rather not save it first.

I need to upload an excel file using a web application. Then I need t oread it in memory without saving it on the server.
Does the file need to have headers? Also the data is such that it may have or may not have values for some columns.

I have created an excel sheet from datatable using function. I want to read the excel sheet programatically using the below connectionstring. This string works fine for all other excel sheets but not for the one i created using the function. I guess it is because of excel version problem.
OleDbConnection conn= new OleDbConnection("Data Source='" + path +"';provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;";);
which i can create an excel sheet such that it is readable again using above query. I cannot use Microsoft InterOp library as it is not supported by my host. I have even changed different encoding formats. Still it doesnt work

We have a web application that allows users to upload sales information in Excel format and store the information in our SQL server. The way it works is that the uploaded Excel file will be stored in a folder on the web server, the application will then open it up and read it row by row, and call a stored procedure to store each row's data. Now it is so slow that if the Excel file contains more than 75 rows of data, the application will just time out.
We have already increased the timeout limit by changing the executionTimeout to 300 seconds in the web.config file. Instead of increasing this further to wait for this slow process, I'm wondering if there are ways to speed it up. Is there a better way than calling the stored procedure row by row?

I'm exporting data to Excel. I've to put some headings, some data from datatable and again some footer text. For that I'm using following Code. It works fine locally but when I publish it it gives error while saving excel file as I'm hosting it on shared server.
Code:
'--SOME HEADERS
Dim HtmlStream As String
HtmlStream = "<html><body><br/><div style='padding:15px;font-family:Tahoma;font-size:11px;'>"
HtmlStream += "<table cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='1' style='line-height:20px; border:solid 1px;font-size:11px;' width='100%'><tr><td colspan='8' style='height:20px;'></td></tr> <tr><Td colspan='8'>"
HtmlStream += "<div style='padding-left:20px;'><b>MULTIPLE TRANSACTIONS REQUEST FORM</b><br /><b>Date -" + DateTime.Now + "</b><br /><b>Name of Applicant - ABC CO. LTD.NEFT</b><br />"
[Code] ....

I am creating a SSIS package, where I am getting all the data into the excelsheet1, which is not formatted.
So i created a formated excelsheet2, where i am giving reference to excelsheet1 cells reference.
And I am sending email by attaching excelsheet2.
I am having issue when the data is updated, but my email attachment excel is showing old data. When i open the excelsheet1 it is being updated. I don't know why excelsheet2 is not updated automatically. I am using BIDS 2005 .

when I used a code of exporting gridview into excel this code worked for a new website which is without masterpage.
my code:
public override void VerifyRenderingInServerForm(Control control) { }
protected void BtnGenerateReport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Clear();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition",
"attachment;filename=GridViewExport.xls");
Response.Charset = "";
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();.....
Now the same code when I copy it in my project having masterpage . there is no compiler error but it is genereating excel file withno data in it but in fact there is data in the grid view at runtime.

I need to remove the password protection from an uploaded excel file. I have been doing this directly with the Excel assemblies (ASP.NET/C#) and then I tried with the ooxmlcrypto, both worked, but the problem is that I can not deploy either of those solution because of the dependencies.
I mean, my sysadmin does not want us installing Excel on the server and, as I have been searching for some alternatives, I can not find one.
My question is: is there a way to put the necessary dlls in the server without installing Excel or the Office suite?
I found this: Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies redistributable package but still, it requires a Microsoft Office Product.
