Case,To make it clearer let's give the Stackoverflow Users list as an example. This list can be manipulated at client-side. I can search, page and so forth. So obviously we would need to call jQuery.ajax to retrieve the HTML of each page given a search. Alright. Now this leaves me with the first question:
What is the best way to render the response for the jQuery.ajax at server-side? I can't use templates I suppose, so the most obvious solution I think is to create the HTML tags as server-controls and render them as the result of an ASHX request? Nice. That solved we have yet another problem:
When the user first enters the Authors List the first list page should already come from the server completely rendered alright? Of course we could render the first page as well as an ajax call but I don't think it's better. This time I CAN use templates to render the list but this template couldn't be reused in case 1. What do I do?
Now the final question: Now we have 2 rendering strategies: 1) Client and 2) Server. How do I reuse code for the 2 renderings?

C# - Administer Website (create New Users, Assign Users To Roles, Etc.) From A Windows App?
Feb 9, 2010I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.
Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:

So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.

Oct 13, 2010I need to populate a dropdown list with users who match certain role criteria. For example, if I have the following roles: Manager, Employee, Supervisor I would like to populate the list with only the Manager and Employee roles. Some individuals have multiple roles and they should be excluded if they also have the Supervisor role as illustrated below:
Name: A , Role(s): Manager, Employee, Supervisor
Name: B, Role(s): Employee
Name: C, Role(s): Manager, Employee
The final list should only contain names B & C.
I can use Roles.GetUsersInRole("Employee") but I am not sure if this is efficient or not.

I need to implement Code Access Security, and URL based security using the roles & types...
For instance, the (Subscriber/Basic) would need to view a different set of pages, and have different access to things then a (Subscriber/Business).
I think I can handle the Code Access security with a custom attribute, but I am unsure to how enforce a User be apart of 2 roles in the URL Authorization.
I am currently using the web.config to deny/allow access to the directories/pages.
e.g.
/Areas/Admin/web.config

I have 2 different pages, for 2 different users with 2 different roles.Each page has a textbox.I have already created them.What I want to do, is to make a bind between this 2 textboxes, so that the second to get the first boxes' text.I managed to do it, but only if the textboxes are on the same page, very easy (Textbox2.Text=TextBox1.Text) . But how to do it for 2 different pages, for 2 different users with 2 different roles?
Another trouble would be....How can I connect the both users same time....after i start debugging the project, I do a sign in but when I sign in with the second user,the first is automaticly siggned out and the text it's lost.Then, how can they synchronize and the second user see what the first one wrote,using that 2 textboxes? Wich is the solution?

Feb 7, 2011I need to create a site that is Roles based and can use AD groups and Users. I found Scott Mitchell's tutorials for setting up "role-based-authorization-cs" [URL]
I've changed to using Windows auth. instead of forms and am pointing it to a remote SQL Database. I can successfully add a user/password/email etc. (although I believe the password and email sections aren't required and would like to remove them as options).
When I create a user (usera) and login to a windows box as usera the menu displays correctly based on the Roles I've added the user to in the SQL Database.
When I add an AD Group and add it to the same Role the menu's that are displayed do not match that of usera.
I'd like to be able to add entire AD groups (They can obviously change so it needs to be dynamic in some way), as well as add individual AD users to Roles. I'd prefer to do this via a Web interface.
My questions are.
1. Am I going about this the right way?
2. If I'm not what would be a better way?
3. If I am what do I need to do to allow ADGroup lookup?

Now I need every user to be able to log in to all the applications, but have a seperate role in each.Is this possible(I dont want to duplicate user details or logins for the same person)?

May 4, 2010i would like to implement one route for my Adminitration user - roles management (http://<domain>/Administration/ManageUserRoles/<userName>/<roleName>), where Administration is the Controller and ManageUserRoles is the action and another for managing everywhere in the site where there is an id / name combination ((http://<domain>/<controller>/<Action>/<id>/<name>)).
From what i have tried so far, the Administration route catches all the routing that has the format http://<controller>/<action>/<param1>/<param2> and as a result the id / name url parameters are displayed as query url parameters.
