Apr 9, 2010I have an ASP.NET application that accesses private key in a certificate in the certificates store. On Windows Server 2003 I was able to use winhttpcertcfg.exe to give private key access to the NETWORK SERVICE account. How do I give permissions to access a Private Key in a certificate in the certificate store (Local ComputerPersonal) on a Windows Server 2008 R2 in an IIS 7.5 website? I've tried giving Full Trust access to "Everyone", "IIS AppPoolDefaultAppPool", "IIS_IUSRS", and everyother security account I could find using the Certificates MMC (Server 2008 R2). However the below code demonstrates that the code does not have access to the Private Key of a certificate that was imported with the private key. The code instead throws and error everytime the private key property is accessed.

Feb 17, 2010Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?
Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with
IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.

Sep 7, 2010Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.

Mar 29, 2011I have a shared folder with directories on a remote server that I am trying to access with the method System.IO.Directory.GetDirectories(). This folder is based off of the credentials gotten from windows authentication. My problem is that everything works fun when I debug the Web Application in the built in IIS in VS, but when I set it up in IIS V5.1, it tells me that I have an invalid username and password. I am using Visual Studio 2005 on a Microsoft XP SP2 machine.

Aug 18, 2010I'm writing a simple Intranet application using windows authentication. I want to restrict access to Safe/UCantSeeMe.aspx. I am aware of the AuthorizeAttribute, but this only works on methods. I also found a good post on doing this with the MVC pattern, but I'm not using MVC. This can be done with roles in forms based security. I read on MSDN that using windows based security means roles are based on groups, but it doesn't go into any detail. how can I restrict access to Safe/UCantSeeMe.aspx?

Oct 27, 2010I have implemented role based security in my asp.net 2.0 vb.net application using windows authentication and the windowstokenroleprovider and limiting access to certain pages using the location tag to specific active directory groups.
The issue is that when a user tries to access a page they are not authorized to view it brings up a login prompt and when it does not pass it takes them to the default page that tells them they are not authorized to view the page. I am wondering if there is a way to throw up a custom page that tells them they are not athorized to view the page that I can incorporate into the site itself with the header and so forth? if this page could come up in lieu of the sign in box popping up as well.

In the Roles table there is Role, and RoleType.
I have 3different roles, 2 of which have sub-roles.
Example

I need to implement Code Access Security, and URL based security using the roles & types...
For instance, the (Subscriber/Basic) would need to view a different set of pages, and have different access to things then a (Subscriber/Business).
I think I can handle the Code Access security with a custom attribute, but I am unsure to how enforce a User be apart of 2 roles in the URL Authorization.
I am currently using the web.config to deny/allow access to the directories/pages.
e.g.
/Areas/Admin/web.config

Is it possible to force the user to be apart of 2 roles with this technique?

Feb 17, 2010i developed an asp.net(2.0) applicaions which contains the attachments of the clients . these attachments are saved in the shared folder and retrive the file when the user requests.if i maintain the application and the shared folders in the same system it will work properly.if i maintain the application in one server and the file folder in the other server i face a lot of security issus like1.Access Denied2.Couldnot find the part of the path......for this i made an common account for the application server and the file server and also set impersonation to true.Even the i got the couldnot find the part of the path error.i already gave the everyone with full control to the shared folder and i added the common account and gave it to full controlIs there is any alternate for the save and retrive the files to and from the shared folder.

I have created a query in MS Access "zorder: Rnd([MarinaAccommodation]![ID])" which works fine in MS Access giving me a different order each time.

Jun 17, 2010I have a situation where I am accessing a database multiple times and I'm wondering if it is necessary.
I have a GridView with a template column with a hyperlink to "Get Results" and on the RowDataBound event I have it check the batch number against the database and see if results exist and then if they don't, hide the link.
So when viewing the page if there is 20 rows in the gridview it is effectively doing 20 queries.
I was wondering if it is a better idea to query the database once with all "batches" and load it into a datatable, then on the RowDataBound event query the datatable. The only issue I see with this is there is currently 40,000 batches and grows daily.

when I inserting the data from aspx form...the guid is not inserting into the table.
one of my datarecord in that table with the id field is like this.(.P11111111-1BBB-4444-A9D1-111111111111)
need to insert anoother record in that table that field must be generate with the ID starting with P..its an guid.. the creating guid in the aspx.cs page..??
