Security :: Directory.GetDirectories Access Error / How To Access With The Method System.IO.Directory.GetDirectories()

Mar 29, 2011

I have a shared folder with directories on a remote server that I am trying to access with the method System.IO.Directory.GetDirectories(). This folder is based off of the credentials gotten from windows authentication. My problem is that everything works fun when I debug the Web Application in the built in IIS in VS, but when I set it up in IIS V5.1, it tells me that I have an invalid username and password. I am using Visual Studio 2005 on a Microsoft XP SP2 machine.

Security :: Access Denied Error When I Attempt To Create A Directory?

Jun 9, 2010

I'm currently working on an ASP.NET app that I inherited. There are a variety of file operations it has to perform and I'm getting and Access denied error when I attempt to create a directory.I've confirmed that the correct account is being impersonated and authenticated by checking WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent I've also confirmed that the account has full control for the parent folder of the directory I'm trying to create.The only think I can think of is that there might be an issue using a domain account rather than a local account. I'm not really 100% solid on how permissions work in this situation.Any ideas on why the account wouldn't have access? Is there any other code I could try to get more details about what is going on?

Variation In Performance When Using GetDirectories?

Sep 1, 2010

I support an inherited asp.net web application that retrieves files from a shared network drive. One particular folder [we'll call it FOLDERA] I've chosen to troubleshoot against contains about 300mb of files and multiple subfolders. FOLDERA is considered large for this application. Starting recently, the users have been having slow performance when retrieving files from FOLDERA on a production network share. I narrowed the code down to the GetDirectories method within the asp.net application.

RootDir.GetDirectories("*", SearchOption.AllDirectories);

In production, the FOLDERA read takes about 8-10 seconds. Prior to the recent performance degradation it was about 1 second. In the test environment it takes 1-2 seconds with the same amount of data.

Inside the application users can upload files to the folder I've created (App_Files). I would like to give access to the folder only once they are logged in (Session["Login"] is no null).

I dont want not logged in users to be able to access the files over a url address in the browser (like http://<server>/App_Files/Filename.pdf)

I am using System.directory services namespace in framework 2 to query active directory. I have used fixed user account impersonisation in the web.config file, find the code:

<identity impersonate="true" userName="enterprise ang09" password="Telcome123"/>
<authentication mode="Windows"/>

I have disabled anonymous access in IIS. Also i have given Read & write access to the account tang09 for the website virtual directory and Microsoft.NET folder located in windows folder. But still i get prompted for the domain username and password to access the website.

Active Directory/LDAP :: Using Directory Entry Of System.Directoryservices Class?

Sep 9, 2010

I am using Directory entry of System.Directoryservices class of Asp.net for authenticating against Sunone LDAP server. The following works fine.

DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://SunOne2:42028/dc=domain,dc=com");
entry.AuthenticationType = AuthenticationTypes.None;
entry.Username = "uid=thost,ou=people,dc=domain,dc=com";(replaced original values)
entry.Password = password;
entry.RefreshCache();

Now I want to be able to authenticate all the users of different organisation units. e.g. ou=development,ou=accounting etc., So I specified like this, entry.Username = "uid=thost,ou=people,ou=devlopment,ou=accounting, dc=domain,dc=com"; but it says "There is no such object on the server". I also tried putting ou in URL. I am not sure where should I specify this OUs to make my search broad. I found a lot on internet but no success so far.

it works only for files handled by asp and doesn't work for i.e. log.txt.

I don't have access to IIS server, I can only add and change files.

How To Access A WCF Service In A Virtual Directory In MVC Application

Feb 1, 2011

I am trying to deploy an asp.net MVC and a WCF service in a single website. The root site is the MVC application and i am going to run the WCF as a virtual directory of the site. However the service cant be accessed since the routing of the MVC would not relay the request to the service. It would say "Page not Found".

http://PC:9000 <- root of mvc application

I have a virtual directory for the wcf named "wcf",

http://pc:9000/wcf/service.svc <- should have accessed the service but routes of the mvc intervened and will display page not found.

how to make this work? How would i ignore the routing if the call is for the service?

Determine If Authenticated User Can Access Page Or Directory?

Oct 27, 2010

I need to check if an authenticated user is authorized to access a directory. I have done this before with a base class library method, I just cannot remember what class it's part of or what it's name was. I think the method was a static method and the class may have had the word Utility in it's name, but I just can't remember or find it on the net. BUT I KNOW I HAVE USED IT! The method definition was something like:

bool SomeTypeWithTheWordUtilityInTheNamePossibly.VerifyUserIsAuthorized(Principal user, string virtualPath)

I'm not using a roles provider in this application and I'm not planning to.

Configuration :: How To Give C# Worker Access To Virtual Directory

Sep 29, 2010

I'm totally stuck. I've tried many ways. I have a webapplication deployed on Win2003 with IIS 6.0. The website needs to access:

D:data on another PC.

I've sucessfully created a virtual directory (using local credentials to the data PC) in IIS and I am fully able to browse and view all the files. So now the webserver is: WebserverData.

In my behind code, I call filestream f = (Server.MapPath("WebserverDatasomedata.txt")));

and it tells me access to that location: \webserverdatasomedata.txt is DENIED. BUT I am able to browse on the Win2k3 IIS server.

I've set impersonation to true and used local username and password of the data PC. I've configured IIS to use the same username password.
