Security :: User Profiles Not Working Once Website Goes Live?
Dec 1, 2010
I have just put my first ASP.Net site live on the internet but im having problems with my login. When i try to login my sit is throwing an error.
The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file.
I have run my script from visual studio so the profiles are there but i cant login?

I'm modifying Scottgu's tutorial for adding profile information to a login.I have put in a provider tag and the profile tag parts in the web config, and hooked it up to a connection to my SQL Server DB.I have modified the create user wizard step 1 to contain extra controls to capture forename and surname. I then altered the tutorial code to match this.however, though the _CreatedUser event code fires, nothing is stored in the aspnet_Profiles table in my DB.I took the tutorial code for the display profile info page and modified it to displAy the users name, but nothing appears on the page, even though the users username appears using the loginname control.all I would like to do is display message in the master page that says 'welcome, John Doe, you are logged in as doej'

I have an live website and I need to enable roles and add it to a folder. What's the best way to go about it? Do I add code to web.config? Do I add code to individual pages? Do I use the membership provider service with V W D and recopy the website?

I've a Gmail account, assume that me@gmail.com. Now I want to login (as admin) in my website through this account. I know I can use OpenID etc. for that purpose but I want to limit it for just me only. Can I do this? I don't let anyone else to know which service I used to login and what is my address and etc. (Note: My website contains just one and only one login form, for just me, only!)

I am able to get a token with Windows Live Delegate Authentication samples provided by Microsoft.
Now I want to access emails (New, Read, Unread etc) from live account. How can I achieve it with the help of Windows Live Delegate Authentication? Are there any examples for the same?
The Samples given by Microsoft are not related to emails.

OK Here is the situation:
I have a web app with a table of statistics on our salesmen's customers, and each row has a sparkline graph showing the general trend of the sales data for the last 12 months. Each page shows a particular salesman's customer list, and some of them can have an enormous number of customers = an enormous number of rows = an enormous number of sparklines (e.g. one in particular has 125 and takes 15 seconds to load).
For this reason, jQuery sparklines could not be used - they completely pinned the CPU of a user accessing a page with a lot of sparklines with IE.
So I moved on to using the Google Chart API, which worked much better, except for two issues: 1) it's on a secure site, and the Google Chart API URL is only served over HTTP (solved by using a small wrapper script to download the graph dynamically and re-serve it from our secure server); and 2) on a page with 125 sparklines, it was still very slow due to the number of requests (even when the 0-9 server prefixes are used to maximize the # of available connections).
So my next step beyond this was to try to make each of the "download/grab/re-serve image" method calls asynchronous - and it worked!
...but only on my dev box running in debug mode.
When I pushed it up to the live site, it was faster, but it left some of the images unloaded, which is of course unacceptable.
So here is what I was hoping some SO hotshot would know:
1) Why are my asynchronous method calls working while debugging, but not working on the live site?
2) Is there any easier way to get a large number of sparklines of some sort to load quickly on a secure server without making me want to tear my hair out?
2a.) Does anyone have any experience using the ASP.NET Chart Library? Is this something I should investigate?
2b.) A co-worker suggested I make my own sparkline routine using a 1x1 CSS background image and varying the height. The problems are a) it is completely un-extensible in case we want to make changes; b) it seems hacky as hell (leaves about a bajillion DIVs per sparkline in the markup); and c) I have no idea if it will be fast enough when there are 100-200 of them on one page - what are your thoughts on the feasibility of the 1x1 sprite approach?

I have searched for an answer to my problem and could not find an answer anywhere.
I am rebuilding a website (converting it to use masterpages, usercontrols, asp.net memberships, etc using asp.net 4.0 C#) that has two different types of users. The problem is, the two different users have different roles ie. customers and employeers. Depending
on the role the user is assigned to they will have different things that should be stored in their profile.
For instance a customer would have all the basic elements of a profile, name, address, phone, etc. But it would also have some extra stuff like, a little bit about themselves, their resume, where they went to school, etc. On the other hand an employer would
have the basic elements but it would include details such as the position, a description of the position, contact for that position, etc.
Is there any way to have multiple profiles and still use the asp.net sql membership and profile provider?

If I use System.Web.Profile.ProfileManager.GetAllProfiles, I get all profiles for users that have logged in since I implemented saving a custom profile item. A few problems I need to solve.
1) when I use the GetAllProfiles method listed above, the custom profile items are not available. For the current user, I can get the value using HttpContext.Current.Profile.Item("MyCustomItem"). I need to be able to get to all the profile items programmatically.
2) I also need to programmatically create profile items for other users (a migration to this format).
3) I cannot get to the items like the documentation says like Profile.MyCustomItem.

I am currently using the ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider just for authentication on an internal business app built in asp.net. This works like a charm.
I am now looking to add some functionality to handle custom profile information for a user, ideally also stored in Active Directory.
For a simple example let's just say the custom attribute is FavoriteColor. Then the goal would be for my app to be able to read in this custom attribute for the authenticated user.
I have looked into ADAM a bit. That looks like it would be great for a Role Provider, but I haven't really found anything that indicates it would work well for a Profile Provider or if it would even let me store custom attributes like FavoriteColor. Maybe someone knows better?
I'm also pretty new to Active Directory so maybe there is even an option to store custom user attributes (like FavoriteColor) within it? In general I am just looking for ideas about the best way to implement this?

I am using URL Routing for display user profiles. I am using master page and child pages. The profile page is a child page and the master page has a login status control. When I login (say user x) through the modal popup which is in the master page itself, i can browse the site with smoothly and reach the routed page. When I log out from the routed page using the login status i get redirected to my home page as required as my login status also is logged out. If i login from this homepage now with another username say y, i get logged in successfully.
The problem is that when I again use the routed to get to the routed page, I get the previous user x still logged in. When i come to homepage I see user y logged in. So I have two sessions working; one in the routed page, and other in the whole of the website.

I've been using the CreateUserWizard to create my users as well as to assign them roles/permissions. My problem is that, once created, I have no idea how to edit or delete their details without using the Asp.net Website Administration Tool. Where can I get some extensive but easy to understand literature on the subject?

I have been using profiles to store a list of user defined clicks. A user clicks on items and it adds it to my Shopping Cart.
I have managed to enter all the info I need and see that It is there with a count but I can't pull the information back once I have entered it.
First thing I did was add code to my Web.config under System.web
[code]....
Then I created a Class called ShoppingCart.vb
[Code]...
Okay here is my VB code where I need to be able to pull the information back again.
[Code]...
So I may need to give you more information but the basics are:
I can add items to my list with btnAddS and it will update my label with the correct amount of rows (items)
Under my btnView I can iterate through the rows (items) but I can't pull back the information stored within.

I am a newbie to asp.net and have recently been building a web... I have a login control on the main page which when logged in verifys the user and redirects them to the home page... I published this to the server previously and it worked. Today when I tried logging into my system however I got the following error message:-
"Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."
The accounts did work before but since I have uploaded a newer version of my program onto the server the above message is displayed. I have been on many websites and read previous forums with suggesstions to add <roles> in the web.config file however the login control worked before and I have not changed anything on the site apart from a different page that doesnt affect the login.
Few points to make... the login control is using the asp.net configuration pre built tables it generates for you, I have created the users and roles inside of asp.net configuration so it is not a custom membership... I am at a complete loss as how to get my login control to work having tried to insert roles into the webconfig file.

I have a large .NET based system running within the company intranet, which allows winforms users to see some live calculated numbers and a custom winforms control drawn live (but not real-time). The Forms users can also affect the operation of the system.
I would like to just show the live numbers on a website, along with the custom control. Nothing needs to come back from the web user, as the web app is meant to be just for monitoring. All the numbers can be calculated at the server. It's been a long time since I touched ASP.NET, and I need to know how to proceed. What are the steps in building and deploying such a website? Any caveats I need to look out for?
