I'm using asmx web service to lock a folder on remote computer!
When I run web service on local machine everything working fine, but when I run it on remote computer nothing happen, folder on remote computer stay unlock!
I supose that I need to set security permission for this web service on remote computer, but i don't know where! So, what I need to enable executing this service on remote computer?

i have made one web site which is generating screensaver(MSI) dynamically.So to generate the MSI file i have to build a WIX project.So i executed using batch file which will use MSBuild.exe and cmd prompt. so its gave me an error "Access is Denied". i have also tried by making a windiws service but still the same error occurs.
View 1 RepliesI've been a VB programmer for years, and friend asked me to write a program that does data storage and is executable from PC & MAC browsers. It seems like I need ASP.NET for this, so I tried to write a server-side 'hello world' ASP.NET program. I did this using VWD 2010 Express, and after successfully 'building' the website, it works great if I view it on the development machine. But when I copy it to my web server (running on a Windows XP Tablet machine) and try to view default.aspx, instead of getting a nicely-formatted page, my browser (IE8) is displaying the HTML source code. I tried hosting the site on both Apache and IIS , and I'm getting the same results.
1. What am I doing wrong?
2. Is ASP.NET the best platform for building a database-based application that can be viewed from both PC's and Macs? If so, should this work from iPads / Safari as well?

i have to make a login page where user has to enter username & password to get message from remote server. actually its a API, where user send his username and password and get the reply. i have done the login page coding. but i don know how to catch the reply and disply it in window.

I have asp.net 2.0 site which is calling web services hosted on another server. When i have an xml file from where web service ip for eg. www.mysite/webservice1/myservice.asmx is given. When i call the same server from developer machine using local networkit works fine.But the same is when hosted remotely and from client end when services is called reading xml fiile from client machine it given a message 'remote server not connecting'.

The data needs to be secure during transport. The data layers cannot be exposed and the databases will not talk to each other. The data will be received from remote application on demand, or will get at scheduled intervals.
I have looked at WCF, but not sure if this will work. Can a WCF service be used to receive data as needed from a remote sender or service? Is this a secure way of doing it? I have also looked at SFTP using some XML/XSLT, but I don't think this is the right way to go. In addition, some data may be transported from my web application to the remote application (mostly reports at first). What protocols are used to transfer data between HIPAA compliant applications?

View 2 RepliesI was trying to block an IP for all the web applications on our Win Server 2003 R2 and during the changes I enabled "Secure Server (Require Security)" in "IP Security Policies on A Local Computer". I was doing that through Remote Desktop and my session was locked immediately (although I have an administrator rights). Now I cannot connect to Remote Desktop again (it doesn't even reach the login prompt) and my web applications doesn't work for any IP. Any ideas how I can get out of this weird situation?

Im using forms authentication on a site. I have a requirement where I have to log the username of the user that is currently logged into the computer. It is not a public site. It is an intranet site at work. I have tried several different methods but they all return the username of the user that is logged into the site. The methods I have tried are below. Note: I would perfer to log the username without the domain.

I face this problem when my client setting the LAN like this: the database server is in server A, the web application is in server B, and the windows login server control (is it what we call "windows domain"?) is in server C.
When I use windows authentication in the web application I built, it checked only the windows account in server B. How to authenticate with server C's windows account?
I am working on Windows 2008 Server (64-bit). I want to execute my web service as a pure (native) 64 bit service. All the assemblies referred by the web service are currently built as 'AnyCPU'.
When I publish the web service to IIS, and configure it to run under a 64-bit application pool (by setting 'Enable 32-Bit applications' = false), attempt to access the web service gives the error 'Application is not a valid Win32 application' because of a BadImageFormatException. This appears to indicate that somewhere an attempt is being made to load a 32 bit assembly. But the error does not provide any information about which assembly was found with an incorrect format. I have checked all the assemblies in the bin folder using corflags and they are bit agnostic.
I tried using the fusion log and identified a bind failure with VJSharpCodeProvider (though my service is coded only in C#). The runtime is not able to find the VJSharpCodeProvider because it is present in the GAC as an x86 assembly.
Is VJSharpCodeProvider the cause of the problem? I guess this is not the case because of the type of exception (BadImageFormatException). If I am correct, then how do I identify the assembly that is causing this exception?
If I change the property 'Enable 32-Bit applications' to true for the application pool, the service works fine, but I need native 64-bit execution.
Ok so I've created a login page that accesses my Active Directory and challenges against it. What I would like, is if a user is logged onto the computer within the intranet with Active Directory Credentials for them to bypass the login to the web page.
However if they are outside of the building on a random computer, they should be presented with a login box just like they are now.
I am running a website from IIS on one computer and I want to view the web page on another computer. the only way I can do this is by using the ipaddress of the computer with IIS on it but would rather have a url. How can I generate a url or use a domain name from [URL]. I signed up for an account on that website but dont know how to use it. I dont know how to configure it.

View 1 RepliesMy web service needs to open some files located on a remote computer.
From Windows I can do the authentication so I can see those files using the File Explorer.
If I try to open the files from my Web Service while it's running using Visual Studio (ASP.NET Development Server) it also works.
However, if I do everything from IIS it doesn't.In order to find out where is the problem what I did was to run a network sniffer and I found out that when using IIS, the system will try to use the account 'ASPNET' to login into those remote computers which will obviously fail.
However this doesn't happen if I run from the IDE (Using the ASP.NET Development Server)I found out that if I use Impersonation for accessing this it will work, the problem is I need to have the same account names on the computer running IIS so I would rather not to do that.
Why is it working from the ASP.NET Development Server and not from IIS? Is there a way to give full access to the ASPNET account?
I there a way to get the user id that they signed on to the computer with from web site project, without changing IIS so they will have to login? This will be interanet and remote internate users.

View 5 Repliesi have been creating a website on my computer which has VWD 2008 and SQL Server 2008, i have membership and role system set up, (using the aspnet_regsql) and that worked perfectly fine on my compuetr.
Now when i was ready to deploy it on my web server, i simply copied the whole database, and added it onto the SQL Server on my server, so it has exactly the same rows, tables, data, etc etc.
Now, when i run the website via the domain, users are able to login etc, and my authentication code that redirects users if they are not logged in also works, so im sure it cant be a problem with the membership provider, as it all seems to work.
But all the users that were already in the set roles, it still shows them in the role in aspnet_roles table, but its not working, the thing i have in the roles loginview does not display, and even after running the web administrator tool, it shows that the user is in that role, but does not work (even while viewing on the local machine)
So i added code in a page_load event that would auto add that user to the role
System.Web.Security.Roles.AddUserToRole(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name, "TestRole");
and on entering the domain (on the local server) i got error:
The role '' was not found.
And on local host server
I get error:
The user 'TestUser' is already in role 'TestRole'.
But yet, even on the localhost i still cant see any indications that the user is in a role, as none of my rle login views are showing.

We have two application created one for webservice and other application will call the methoddefined in webservice .The problem is we want to add webservice in our application dynamically
