I have an web application which in converted from vs2008 to vs2010. This app. has one simple reports, which is also converted. Now I have a few problems.
The converted report doesn't render anymore. Somehow the dataset I used is not visible to the report anymore. So I decided to delete this datasource and create a new one, using the new interface in VS 2010. The annoying with this is that the new dataset, which is created when I follow the wizard, in the root of the application. As soon as I move this dataset to a folder (in my case the DataSet-folder), the reports doesn't see the fields anymore. So I copied the dataset back to the root, to solve this problem.
However, when I render the report, i got an error message saying "A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source 'name-of-the-dataset'"
I am trying to write an asp.net webpage which contains an applet. Everything works fine when I run this in a development folder, but when I move it to the IIS web server public folder it doesn't work anymore. I don't get any error message. The browser doesn't repaint the applet area Here is the source code:

I am using ADO.NET Entity Framework data model for my ASP.NET MVC project. I am trying to insert into multiple tables and called .SaveChanges() method. It doesn't throw any exception and doesn't insert into these tables.
What could be wrong here?

For some reason the first time I click this button, the code is beeing fired. When login credentials are wrong, a message shows up. THen, the user inserts the right credentials. After clicking the 'cmdLogin' button, nothing happens and the old (wrong) values are beeing filled in inside the textboxes. This behaviour occured to me after switching to ASP.NET 4.0.
I have a problem. I can't get current logged user to my application. Everything is fine on localhost. When I deployed an application
on IIS, it stopped working. I have Windows Authentication Enabled on my IIS. For every account which uses intranet, logged user is the same now, and it's an administration account.
Why application doesn't get real logged user, but administrator account ?
In the login control, the "Remember me next time" checkbox does not appear to work.
If I check it when logging in, when I log in the next time, even a minute later, I go to the login page again.
It seems the cookie is not being written to the client. Can't find it anywhere.

I have created a login page using the login control provided by the visual web developer and set up all the accounts and roles using the web admin tool. Everything works fine if I run the page within the developer but when I host it on IIS, The login does not work. It shows the invalid password message from the login control.

I have a custom role provider and I'm trying to get the IsUserInRole() method to get called when a user of a certain role tries to access a restricted page. However, the method is never called.

When the user goes to a restricted page, I'd like the custom role provider to check the user's role and deny/grant access.
I am using URL routing in asp.net application (not MVC) . I have Admin folder in my aaplication which has admin related aspx pages with seperate web.config. I have seperate login form for admin users which is placed in admin folder itself. My issue is whenever I hit [URL] (which I want to go to login form for admin)- it tries to authenticate and goes to login url mentioned in web.config of root folder.
Note: Admin folder has anonymous access in root config file. Also I have set default document in config of Admin folder. I have added following line in global.asax so that routing doesnt work for files in admin folder;

I am really confused what is the issue? What I am missing?
The Security is working fine when testing on a local machine, but when it gets published to the server, it seems that It can't get any active directory information at all.
For example, on the local computer <asp:LoginName ID="LoginName1" FormatString="(Welcome {0})" CssClass="loginname" runat="server" /> returns "Welcome DOMAINusername" but when it's published, it doesn't return anything at all.
Using code i've added users to the correct roles and checked they are really in the roles, but security when published won't recognise the current user's name, so it all fails.
I'm using .net 4.0 and iis 7 and windows server 2008

but when i try to config the web site in iis 7 the form athenticate redirection doesn't work without any kinds of error.

I enabled the authentication form in iis.
I have a Default(contains the sign-out button) and Login page, once the user is not authenticated, it will always redirect the user to login page.
So the scenario is when the user hit the sign-out button it will redirect him to the login page which is good. My problem is, when the user hits theprevious or back button from the login page,it will still read the authorization cookies and redirect him to the default page. which should not be the case. the user should be redirected to login page when authentication is invalid.
I've read some solutions on the net, but still it doesn't work for me. below are the codes I've used for my sign-out function

By the way, when the user is authenticated, the previous or back button is available/enable for the user.

Our team has recently implemented a role permission based authorization so that we can have granular control. Can some one put in simple terms what the advantages of claims based authorization are.

It worked just fine untill this week, but now it fails to login.
the odd think is that it do login from localhost, but when trying to login through the profuction site it fails to login. this is happens to all users.
I am working on application which is deployed in UK environment. But the machine which I am using has US as dateculture.
I always face issues while running application on my machine as some of the functionality which involves date doesnot work and throws exception.
I tried to google on the datetime conversion issue but it did not help.
Can any one please guide me about the changes to be done so that the application works fine in both US and UK environments?

the problem is that the page loads fine but no autocomplete occurs.
I am a new to WCF. I have written ajax to use a web service before, but on this project I am trying to use ajax to WCF.After I build the project and wcf using ajax, I receive the return successfully. But, 10 or more minutes later I don't get a return, the ajax calls the error function, and the fiddler returns nothing.
If I rebuild the project without any source modifying, I receive the return successfully again.
What is the authentication mode available in ASP.NET? How do you set authentication mode in the ASP.NET application? How do you provide secured communication in ASP.NET? List out the difference between windows authentication and form authentication. ?
View 3 RepliesI'm using Forms authentication in ASP.NET MVC website and I store user account login name in AuthCookie like this: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(account.Login, false); I want to ask if there is a possibility that user on client side will somehow manage to change his login name in AuthCookie and thus he will be for example impersonated as someone with higher privileges and authorized to do more actions than he is normally supposed to have. Also is it better to save in this cookie user account login name or user account ID number?

I am implementing forms authentication in this project but the problem is when I'm on registration form ( outside login) and try to open any window on that form using java script (window. open) it redirects me to login page. How should i tackle this problem??
