I have a web page that uses System.Net.HttpWebRequest class that used to work perfectly fine for 2 years, and then all of a sudden I started to get the following error.[WebException: The operation has timed out] System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() +5314029Also, I tried the application on my local machine and it works fine, do you think it is a setting change on my hosting server?I already tried the response.close and it didn't work.
I know practically nothing about AJAX, but fully intended to utilize it in the future. Right now though I am noticing a behavior that may require that I implement it sooner then I planned.
I have been working on a fairily sophesticated web form that is made up of tables, dropdown lists, map buttons, and labels. As various controls are selected, specific tables are enabled or dropdowns/labels populated with information. All of this is working great, but when I put it all on a server and accessed it from a remote location, I noticed that every single action caused the entire page to reload.
From what I have read, it looks like AJAX and the UpdatePanel control will allow me to only refresh those areas that should be refreshed. Before I look further into implementing this, is this the only way to go? From what I have read on some other blogs, the UpdatePanel has some high performance costs.
I need to check whether the request will return a 500 Server Internal Error or not (so getting the error is expected). I'm doing this:
HttpWebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; request.Method = "GET"; HttpWebResponse response = request.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse; if (response.StatusCode == HttpStatusCode.OK) return true; else return false;
But when I get the 500 Internal Server Error, a WebException is thrown, and I don't want to depend on it to control the application flow - how can this be done?
I am trying to implement the Ajax HtmlEditor into my application. I currently am using a regular TextBox to load and save some data to some EMail template files and had to do some work-arounds to get it to accept the HTML Input. I am trying to upgrade it to use the Editor, but as soon as I insert the Editor and do a PostBack, I receive the Security Exception below. There is absolutely no change to the code-behind, so I don't understand the issue. There is so little on Google for the Version 3.5 Editor that I'm stumped. I have Debugging enabled, but it won't give me the Soruce Error either.

I know this has been asked umpteen times but i cant find an answer to my problem. Very simply, i have a webservice client which is trying to call a webservice. The webservice may take any time from 5mins to 30mins (or more) for downloading message data from pop3 server . However after 2mins i get the following error:
System.Net.WebException: The operation has timed-out
This is an issue with the webservice client timing out calling the webservice - as the underlying webservice still runs in the background Sequence osf steps when the error occurs:
1.User logins with his credentials 2.Webservice client calls webservice to connect to pop3 server and download messages for that particular user.
Code in webservice for downloading data from pop3 server where the exception occurs
private string ReadOutput(bool bMultiline) { try { StreamReader srReader = new StreamReader(conn); string strRet = srReader.ReadLine(); if (bMultiline) { // Example #4: Append new text to an existing file string strLine = ""; while (true) { // In a multiline message the . indicates end of message if (strLine == ".") break; // Relay will convert any line with just a . in it to .. if (strLine == "..") strLine = "."; strRet += " " + strLine; } } return strRet; } catch (Exception e) { return null; } }
3.Exception is caught in webservice client while webservice continues to run.This exception occurs only when the user receives a large message may be above 1mb because i tested with 1MB msg file where i dint have any problem receiving or downloading from pop3 server where as with 5 MB message file i got this exception .
After going through couple of forums i tested my luck by changing web.config in both webservice and webservice client where i set the attribute of httpruntime Execution timeout to 300 seconds with no success <httpRuntime
executionTimeout="300"></httpRuntime>.
I have this webservice client and webservice running on localmachine(OS-Windows Vista)
I have an asp.net web app running fine on localhost but I get the system.outofmemory exception on the server on accessing the login page.what should I do to get rid of this problem.

I am trying to fetch a page from a remote php web appln in a different domain. The page contains a chart image which I need to display in my web app. The chart image is dynamically generated using jquery. Now the remote web app needs to authenticate myself as user i.e username of my machine. So the first time I made a request for its first page it asked for my username and password in the browser ( I.E). From next time it doesn't ask for my username and password and opens the first page.My username was added to the user DB and probably it stores my IP or computer name.Then the chart page also opens in the browser(I.E). After some time if I try to open the chart page it comes up with some messages and junk values. But if I again open the first page and then the chart page in the browser it opens up with the proper chart image. So everytime I need to access the chart image I need to authenticate first by opening the first page since the session timeout for authentication is not known. The above process which was happening in browser has to be replicated in my code (C#) in my web app. Now for authenticating myself i.e myusername to the remote appln I write the code below but all I get is some messages and junk values. so how do I authenticate and then access this chart page.
Using Visual Studio 2005 to create a test ASPX Page using Visual Basic.Simply trying to open an existing file that exists on the particular directory where the ASPX files and the web.config file has been copied. If we run the ASPX page on the Local Host of the Development PC, it works just fine.However when the same page is uploaded to the GoDaddy Site using ASP 2.0, we are seeing the following error:
System.Web.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +181 ystem.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75 Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3615; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3053 [code]...
I'm not sure why but on random occassions after I have added an update to my site via ftp and then try to access the site through the browser I get an "out of memory" exception. But there are no infinite loops or problems like that. Then after some time it will then work (I assume the web hosts restart IIS or something) and all is fine again. Server Error in '/' Application. Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

My site sends confirmation emails from a purchase. 95% of the time, it works. The other 5% after clicking the 'Confirm' button that runs the payment and should send the email, i get the following exception:
Details: Exception: Failure sending mail.
Inner Exception: Unable to connect to the remote server
Inner Exception(2): A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 72.167.234.197:25
The code to send the email is this:
Dim smtpClientPayPalSuccess As System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient = New System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient() smtpClientPayPalSuccess.Host = "relay-hosting.secureserver.net" smtpClientPayPalSuccess.Send(mailMessagePayPalSuccess)
FYI: I have confirmed with the hosting that I don't need any credentials, or a different port number than 25. This is also running over https. why this would be happening only a small percentage of the time?
I have a web site that is using windows authentication. 'Enable anonymous access' is unchecked. It works when I call it through Visual Studio but when I put the site on the server I get the following error:

First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production.The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong)
1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong?
2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues?
3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application?
what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system
I've got an asp.net application, it's running on DotNetNuke, under load we get the occasional out of memory exception. I've got a dump loaded it into windbg. the end of !dumpheap -stat is
I can't find much information on the System.Threading.ReaderWriterCount, as it seems to be the problem. What is the likely cause? Or failing that what's the best next step to work that out? Based on the pointer from the given answer I had a look at ReaderWriterLockSlim. I wasn't using it directly, but I saw that it had 88684 instances, digging deeper I saw quite a few classes with that number of instances, pointing to AutoMapper.MappingEngine. This should be a singleton, so I've had a look at where it's being created. I suspect that it's the DI container and have made some changes around that to see if it helps
I am having this strange case, at first time when the page loades, everything goes fine. But as soon as I click on any link which makes any ajax request, after that, I get this error while trying to read the configuration."System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings' threw an exception of type 'System.Web.HttpException"I am using asp.net mvc 1.0
