View 1 RepliesI have modified a part of code of an existing web application. Once it worked fine on my local machine, I moved it to the common server. But, when different users hit the common server, the web application is behaving differently. I tried stopping and starting the website on the common server and it worked fine for sometime around a day and again it started working differently for different users. Then I tried to restart the IIS on the common server and it worked fine for once and again bounced back.Can anyone please suggest the areas where I can check to resolve the issue.

View 1 RepliesWe have created an ASP.NET web app that upload files to WSS Doc Libary. The files get added under 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT' in the library. The FullTextSqlQuery class is used to search the document libary items. But it only searches files that has been uploaded by a windows user account like 'Administrator' and ignores the ones uploaded by 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT'. As a result the search results are empty even though we have the necessary data in the document library. What could be the reason for this?
The code is given below:
public static List GetListItemsFromFTSQuery(string searchText)
{
string docLibUrl = "http://localhost:6666/Articles%20Library/Forms/AllItems.aspx";
List items = new List();
DataTable retResults = new DataTable();
SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate
{
using (SPSite site = new SPSite(docLibUrl))
{
SPWeb CRsite = site.OpenWeb();
SPList ContRep = CRsite.GetListFromUrl(docLibUrl);
FullTextSqlQuery fts = new FullTextSqlQuery(site);
fts.QueryText =
"SELECT Title,ContentType,Path FROM portal..scope() WHERE freetext('" +
searchText +
"') AND (CONTAINS(Path,'"" +
ContRep.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl + ""'))";
fts.ResultTypes = ResultType.RelevantResults;
fts.RowLimit = 300;
if (SPSecurity.AuthenticationMode != System.Web.Configuration.AuthenticationMode.Windows)
fts.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.PluggableAuthenticatedQuery;
else
fts.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.NtAuthenticatedQuery;
ResultTableCollection rtc = fts.Execute();
if (rtc.Count > 0)
{
using (
ResultTable relevantResults =
rtc[ResultType.RelevantResults])
retResults.Load(relevantResults, LoadOption.OverwriteChanges);
foreach (DataRow row in retResults.Rows)
{
if (!row["Path"].ToString().EndsWith(".aspx"))
//if (row["ContentType"].ToString() == "Item")
{
using (
SPSite lookupSite =
new SPSite(row["Path"].ToString()))
{
using (SPWeb web = lookupSite.OpenWeb())
{
SPFile file = web.GetFile(row["Path"].ToString());
items.Add(file.Item);
}
}
}
}
}
} //using ends here
});
return items;
}
I'm having my first experience with Web Services with .Net. I received from a client an integration manual to consume a web service they have.
In this manual I have the following information:
Request Interface: [URL]
Using SOAP request would return a XML Document with the response.
WSDL: [URL]
Request XML:
[Code]....
There's also XSD for the response XML.
Well, I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out how to consume this web service.
I found a topic here pointing to a MSDN article. There it says that I would have to add a Web Reference for this web service, but in my case this web service is external. Do I really have to add this reference to consume the web service? If yes how do I do that?
Next I have to create the XML Document that will be sent with the SOAP request. But here's a question. Searching on the internet I found mainly two types of request XML. I don't know wich one I should use.
The first one would be:
[Code]....
The second one is a XML file with soap:Body, soap:Header, soap:Envelope, etc.
Wich one should I create with my application in order to consume the web service? If it's the second one, how would look the XML for the data of the first XML?
And finally, how do I send the Soap request? As I said above, I found a MSDN article but it assumes I'm adding a web reference to the web service on my project and I belive that in my case I won't add this reference. So, how do I consume this web service?
I'm kind of lost here and really really soon I will have to estimate how long will take to develop the web service consume code.
How to Find All the Web Services and Windows Services Running on a Server in ASP.Net. I have the server details with me and want to find all the Web services running on it.
View 1 RepliesMy workstation does not have Internet access, but it uses a DNS server on the LAN. Every time I start any ASP.NET application from Visual Studio with either F5 or Ctrl-F5, the workstation (I don't know whether it's Visual Studio or Webdev.Webserver.exe) asks the DNS server for the IP address of "time.windows.com". The application is not started until the LAN-only DNS server returns an error, which results in a 10-second delay, during which the Internet Explorer is started, but displays a white background. Is there any way to prevent these connection attempts?

View 1 RepliesI have an ASP .NET 2.0 (4.0 is an option) page that I've embedded the Windows Media Player to using OBJECT tags.
The player is connecting to a Windows Media Services publishing point on the Web server. This is on a 2008 server.
Everything works great, see it here: [URL]
If I understand correctly, the information the player is showing in its status bar comes from the ID3 tags of the current track. Continuing on this line of thought, the ID3 information must be coming to the player from the media server. Correct?
What I want to do is collect and use the information about the track that's current being played. I'd like to be able to create a custom display for the current track information. I'd also like to put a custom value in the track information to look up additional information about the artist/track from a database.
writing a web Service and one of its web method, I want it to download a png file in form
of buffer from remote server. And My consume application will write that buffer retured by Web service in to file on User's Computer.
However, I am able to do this using Local Web Service but when I published that service on my web server, I always get null retuned
And even in one of my test code while copying file from that server , I always get Access Denied.
Following things I have done for above issue.
1] I even tried making the Anonymous user for the web service the system administrator (with the correct password), to no avail.
2] I also tried sharing out the folder I'm pulling files from to allow access from Everyone.
[Previously same service was working fine on another remote server with IIS 7.0, we checked server IIS Settings but in vain.]
if you know where we are mistaken guide me to resolve this issue as its very urgent.

View 5 RepliesI have a fairly complex business application written in ASP.NET that is deployed on a hosted server. The site uses Forms Authentication, and there are about a dozen different roles defined. Employees and customers are both users of the application.
Now I have the requirement to develop a Windows Mobile client for the application that allows a very specialized set of tasks to be performed from a device, as opposed to a browser on a laptop. The client wants to increase productivity with this measure. Only employees will use this application.
I feel that it would make sense to re-use the security infrastructure that is already in place. The client does not need offline capability.
My thought is to deploy a set of web services to a folder of the existing site that only the new role "web service" has access to, and to use Forms Authentication (from a Windows Mobile 5/.Net 3.5 client).
I did see this question and I am aware of the limitations that Forms Authentication poses. Since security is not my primary motivator (I use SSL and can restrict access by IP address), but rather using existing user accounts and roles, my decision tree is somewhat different as well.
how to start or stop the windows services of a remote system.
now what i need to know is, is there any possibility such that the windows services can be start or stop by using webservices.
suppose i have created a webservice in remote system which will keep on monitering the status of windows services present in that machine. now i will create a client service which will sends the service(windows service) name and action to be performed(that is starting or stopping the service).so is it possible to do in such a manner.
I created a page for display my own windows services installed in the system. That page displays the service display name and status in the grid view and also showed one button to start ot stop the service according to the statusAll working nicely. But when i click start button i got the error as follows{"Cannot open Service1 service on computer '.'."}and the inner exception is "{"Access is denied"} .

View 2 RepliesI created a small new webservice for AutoCompleteExtender and for some reason I am getting "type System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService is not defined" error. I Googled this and found a few threads about similar issues but was unable to resolve mine. Here is the example of the code:
[Code]....
When I add Imports System.Web.Script.Services I get "Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'System.Web.Script.Services' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases".
I've tried adding Reference to System.Web.Extensions and it didn't do anything. What could be the problem?
I have a asp.net web app and a windows service running on separate machines. How can i enable the windows service subscribe/listen to events raised by the asp.net app on the remote machine? What methods can i use?n example of events that can be raised on the asp.net app is a user uploading a file. Once the upload has completed the windows service should be notified so it can do some work. It seems that there needs to be a layer in between asp.net and windows service, possibly another windows service or WCF app? Or plain old polling through a shared database containing the state?
View 1 RepliesI have got this error
Unable to connect to the remote server
when I call the web service from the windows service. But I can visit this web service through IE and I also wrote another console application to call the web service and it works fine, too.
The exception infomation is below:
A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network 127.0.0.1:8888
Here is my code:
WebImageSVC webSvc = new WebImageSVC();
ConfigManager.LoadConfigManager();
webSvc.Url = ConfigManager.WebSvcAddress;
webSvc.Proxy = null;
webSvc.CanUpload(0, "");
I try many methods, like turn off the firewall and anti-virus software, set the web services proxy property to null. but still cannot solve this issue.

View 4 RepliesI'm getting started with Astoria/ADO.NET Data Services/WCF Data Services. Looking through a lot of the code samples out there, it appears that the MimeType attribute used to be a method level attribute. After installing the latest update, it is now a class level attribute.
If I have more than one Service Operation that I want to return as a certain MimeType, then it appears now that I have to create a new service for each operation. Is this correct?
Most examples are like this:
[WebGet]
[SingleResult]
[MimeType("application/pdf")]
public IQueryable<byte[]> FooPDF()
{
var result = from p in this.CurrentDataSource.MyPDFs
where p.FooID == 2
select p;
return result.Take(1).Select(p => p.PDF);
}
I get "Attribute 'MimeType' is not valid on this declaration type. It is only valid on 'class' declarations." when I compile, because now I can't do this.
Now, I have to do this:
[MimeType("FooPDF", "application/pdf")]
public class FooService : DataService<FooDBEntities>
{
public static void InitializeService(DataServiceConfiguration config)
{
config.SetServiceOperationAccessRule("FooPDF", ServiceOperationRights.All);
}
[WebGet]
[SingleResult]
public IQueryable<byte[]> FooPDF()
{
var result = from p in this.CurrentDataSource.MyPDFs
where p.FooID == 2
select p;
return result.Take(1).Select(p => p.PDF);
}
}
What's worse is that I can't add duplicate MimeType attributes to my class.
