MVC 3 Setup For IIS7.5 With Restful Verbs
Feb 11, 2011I have a restful controller that has your standard REST HTTP Verbs: Get,Post, Put, Delete. The problem I am having is that although my controllers are decorated to accept these verbs, when I execute my REST action, it can only hit my Get and Post methods. I have the attributes on top of the controller actions: HttPut, HttpDelete, HttpPost, and HttpGet. I also have the the override method in my forms: @Html.HttpMethodOverride(HttpVerbs.Put) When I submit my form, I get a 404 error from IIS 7.5, saying the static file handler couldn't find the resource. Strangely the same forms work in Cassini, so I think it is something in IIS7.5's setup.
What do I need to do to get IIS 7.5 to handle REST verbs like PUT and DELETE with Asp.Net MVC 3? I have already removed WebDAV and have looked through the handlers but the ones I am modifying seem to do nothing. My current setup is Asp.Net MVC 3, IIS7.5 on Windows 7.
Does <httpRedirect> In Web.config Work In A Mono Setup? Or Is It IIS7 Specific?
May 11, 2010We had some content restructure recently and I'd like to put in some redirect rules into web.config so bookmarks to the old pages can get routed to their new locations/pages.I tried using this approach:

Proper Setup For IIS7.5 Machine Account For Anonymous Web Site Access
Jan 22, 2010Using IIS 7.5, IIS_IUSRS is supposed to be the account to use. I get '401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials' error. If I add an EVERYONE account with Read, it works. But rather not have Everyone account. Any idea why IIS_IUSRS does not work? It has Read access. Anonymous Access=enabled. Specific User=IUSR As a side, on the Basic Settings... for the site, Test Settings button says 'ok-on Authenticate' but Authorization 'cannot verify access to path'.

Feb 27, 2011I have created a website that has one aspx page. I am using visual studio 3.5. I have created a virtual directory on my local pc and tested the app and it wis working. Now I need to delploy it to the domain via ftp> Here is the website folders:
1. App_Code - contain my classes
2. App_Data - contain the sql express database ... myDb.mdf
3. Myaspx page - a single page
4. Web.config
when I run it , it woks, but when I want to deploy it , the site does not work. Here what I am doing .I am publishing the site to a local folder, then upload the complete folder to the right domain name. Yet, get an error
"Error 1 The process cannot access the file 'B:�0 2011 demoMarchObjectDataSource_CRUD_CSApp_DataRGN.mdf' because it is being used by another process"
How can I fix this error. I thought when I publish the site, the database would also be included in the site folders, but I may be wrong.

The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.
Security :: VS2008 Development Server (local Host) & Hosted IIS7 Site Different Configuration - How To Test Application
Mar 19, 2010How can I test an application that I am publishing to a remote provider's IIS7 hosted site, with the VS2008 development server that is built in with VS2008 on an XP Machine?
My membership/roles work perfectly up on the remote host. On ths hosted IIS7 site when I try to access a secure directory it redirects to login, and I am able to login, however when I launch (debug - F5) from VS2008, it will provide that folder/resource, no questions asked. Same build, config, etc... nothing has changed.
I am running XP, and local IIS version installed is 5.1.
My guess is what is happening is that the new format required in the web.config is configured properly for IIS7 deployment, which is why it works remotely, but when running locally through VS2008/XP it is running with an older version on IIS and does not recoginize the new tags.

I can access the website I've created on my local machine in debug mode; and with my domain account as a local administrator, if I do this:

I can still access the website; and with my domain account in a Domain Group named "DomainDomainLocalSecurityGroup", if I do this:

I can still access the website; HOWEVER, if I create a Local Group on my machine named "LocalMachineGroup" and I add "DomainMyDomainUserName" to this group and I do this:

I get an Access Denied error trying to access the website. What I want to do is, have a group on my local machine (for testing), on a test web server, and on a production web server named "MyWebsiteUserAccess" with the same Domain Group (filled with Domain Users allowed access to the site) in all of these local groups; so that when I test the web application on my local machine, on my test web server and on my production web server, I don't have to change the Web.config file to have it work on each AND if the Domain Group name ever has to change, it won't affect access to the website.
What am I overlooking or is this even possible to do this way? I understand that there is a way to do Role Management through ASP.NET but I don't understand that well enough yet to implement that (and will probably go that route once I've done the research on how to best implement it for purpose of access control of this intranet site).

I did some finding and got that i am being returned the primary group of the domain user
called "Domain User" group
but what i actually want is the groups of the local machines the domain user is a part of... i cannot get that.. any suggestions

Security :: Custom NEW User Setup Which Build To Allow System Administrators To Setup Users?
Sep 21, 2010I'm having trouble setting up a custom NEW User Screen. Here is my situation, I have a Request for Access Screen that uses the CreateNewUser Wizard Control. I want to leave the Question and Answer for this, however I also want a custom NEW User Setup which I build myself to allow the system administrators to setup users, but for this setup I don't want the administrators to have to pick the question and answer for the NEW user, so I would like to bypass this for this setup. However, my Membership.CreateUser keeps asking for it. How can I accomplish this? I've included a copy of my current web.config file. You will notice a AspNetAdminMemberhip which I use to allow the System Administrators to reset passwords.

Aug 3, 2010We have a ASP.NET site that partially depends on forms authentication for login credentials, however the implementation of IPrincipal is completely custom.
But, when running the site on a particular server (which is somewhat semi-hardened when it comes to security), the app crashes when invoking IPrincipal.IsInRole() with the following messsage:
System.SystemException: The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed.
This indicates a communication error between the web-server and the DC, however since our application doesn't at all utilizes Windows authentication, I don't see why it needs to communicate with the DC.

I was finally enable to reproduce this error on my dev-machine (i revoked my machine from the DC yesterday, but didn't reproduce it until today)
HttpContext.User is actually a WindowsPrincipal by default it seems, and the error in my code was that I only replace it with CustomPrincipal upon login. Hence, unathenticated users still get the WindowsPrincipal which then fails horribly if you have trust issues on your AD.
I tried changing the default principal by invoking this on appstart
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy( PrincipalPolicy.NoPrincipal);
But this doesn't seem to kick in. How do I change the default Principal in ASP.NET?

The two scenarios are:
If they are redirected to the login page with "mydomain.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=http://forums.mydomain.com", then they are succesfully logged into the forums but NOT the main site.
If they are simply redirected to the login page with "mydomain.com/login.aspx" with no returnUrl, they are correctly logged into both the main site and the forums.
Configuration :: Web Setup Package Not Creates The Setup.exe And Only Makes .msi Package
Oct 5, 2010I have a web setup package project alongside an old .asmx web service. When I build it I only get 'MyService.msi' and not the 'Setup.exe' in the 'Release' folder after build. Normally the .msi suffices for installation, but on Windows Server 2008 R2 I am getting denied from installing the .msi pacakge. I can only install .exe packages after right clicking and stating "Install as Administrator".
The server admin is still new to 2008 R2 and not sure why I can't install an .msi because I am an admin, so for now if I knew how to get that web setup package to generate the Setup.exe file as well I see my other VS.NET setup packages create.

When Publish Website To Local Folder And Access On Local Pc, Java Script Files Did Not Work
Mar 29, 2011I created a website using VS2010. When I run the website using built-in web server, everything works fine. The website recognizes javascript and aurigma uploader. When I publish the website to local folder and tried to access using IIS 5.1 on local pc,
the java scipt files did not work. I was getting yellow triangle sign at the bottom of the page indicating the object is expected. I tried to look online but i could not find any answer. I have included jquery and javascript file in the header section of master
Security :: Unable To Log In On Domain Which Redirects To Another Domain?
Jul 23, 2010I have a domain: http://www.mydomain.com. This domain is redirected to http://mydomain.anotherDomain.com.
I user forms authorization, so when the user navigates to Default.aspx he is redirected to Login.aspx. Pretty standard stuff.
On FireFox the user can log in on both on http://www.mydomain.com and http://mydomain.anotherDomain.com.
But with Explorer http://www.mydomain.com doesn't work. I only get the Login.aspx page.
Can it have anything to do with that on http://www.mydomain.com I can't see the filename ('Default.aspx', 'Login.aspx')? How can I enable so the filename is included in the redirected domain?
