I have an item template field retrieving a date field from an Oracle 11g database that can be null. The date is converted to a string before binding to the gridview. When the column is sorted is is being sorted as a string. I have read in several places if you add a formatting string to the eval statement in the item template that the sort operation will then sort the string as a date. However, I cannot get it to work. I also tried a bound column, but the column is still being sorted as a string.Code from the aspx page:

Apparently all goes weel, because i ca see, in a a debug session, the control initial value, and after i change it, the value changes.
I need to set the HeaderText of GridView BoundField in codebehind file based on a flag at runtime.
I tried setting the column name as
e.Row.Cells[0].Text = "XXXX";
It is worked out but not able to sort that column.
here my requirement is to set the HeaderText programmatically in codebehind and able to sort the column.

I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

I am using an IComparer to do the sorting of the gridview and binding it to a list of objects. It used to be that the linkbutton in the first template field was being done like this:

The sorting worked just fine when it was like this, but I would prefer not to use a querystring value. The problem with using the linkbutton is that the sorting appears to work (there are only two rows in my test case and they change places), but when the linkbutton is clicked on it is in the same order before the sort took place. After each sort the gridview's datasource is reset to the newly sorted list of objects and the databind method is called.

What I plan on doing is comparing the string like if United States(db value) == United States (dropdown value) then go ahead and select United States in the drop down. I stripped this example to make it simple. I have a gridview with a template field. The template field contains two buttons and a label (They must be in the same template field). I have an application that I would like to be able to allow the user to modify multiple characteristics of each record within a datagrid.
Most characteristics require data to be entered in a text box but some a check box would be more appropriate.
My question is does a gridview column need to have all the same item template controls? or could I read from the database the control type and dynamically alter the template control for each row as it loads?
I have created my menu items using web.sitemap, asp:sitemapdatasource control and asp:menu control. I'd like to programmatically remove some of the parent menu's based on certain conditions (I'm guessing it will be under the MenuItemDataBound event).
I know how to remove child menu items, not sure how parent menu items can be removed.
I'm trying to change the layout of the home item, but the whole layout section seems like it doesn't do anything. How do I change the layout of something?
