State Management :: Cascading Dropdownlist Will Not Reload With Updated Database Data Unless End And Restart
May 19, 2010
I have a cascading dropdownlist. The first drop down is for Departments and is databound on PageLoad from the database. The user then selects a department and the second dropdown is populated with the appropriate sub departments via JQuery/JSON which calls an httphandler. The problem is as follows: I select a department and the subdepartments are filled.
I finish what I'm doing on that screen and everything is fine. But then if I go to a different screen and add an additional subdepartment then come back to original screen, the new sub department won't appear in the cascading dropdown. I have to close the browser and restart the session in order for any new sub departments to appear even though they are in the database. I put a breakpoint in the httphandler and noticed that it is only called once per session per each department in the first dropdown. I don't know why this is happening. I want it to call the httphander EVERY time the index of the department dropdown is changed.

I am very new to asp.net. I developed one application. In that I have two pages. First page contains Application.Get() in page load event, here I read this Application variable, initially it returns NULL. If it is NULL, I make some buttons invisible. Then I jump to second page, in that page contains Application.Set(). Again I jump from second page to first page, this time Application.Get() is not NULL, I make some buttons visible.This is ok, if I execute the program in .net software.
But, when I publish this same program to web server like IIS, it is not working properly. After publishing very first time the first page returns NULL after that it doesnt return NULL even I closed the browser. I dont know why. In program, I used 2.0 framework. IIS also has 2.0 framework. Please clear this issue.

I have a page with several panels which are enabled or disabled depending from which page user were redirected to this particular page (based on UrlReferrer). Everything works perfectly until a user adds this page to favorites in IE8 (not sure about other browsers at this point), and then returns to that favorite in the future. It contains the previous data and not the data from the current page . When I click F5 it works again becase page is reloaded from the server and not from IE cache. How can I avoid this issue? Is there any way to force page reload only once! I tried also to put some code into "If Not IsPostBack", but it still does not work.

Into my application there is EditAds.aspx page where the user get a link on his email after he add an Ad into my application. My inquiry is can i bind the cascading ddl to show the value of State column into Ad/product row as well if the user want to update the rest of state will be also reachable. It maybe hard to get what i am looking for exactly so i make a short screen record ...
Rebinding values of Ad/product depending on AdsID which is a query string in the page called: QADNUM
[URL] ....
if (!IsPostBack)
{
if (cookie["Location"] == null)
{
DataTable rEfilterstathpBizDT = new DataTable();
using (SqlConnection REGGfilterstathpBizCon = new SqlConnection(sc))
[Code] ......

Is there a good way to keep the session after a user clicked reload/refresh? My boss wants this functionality, and I don't really/really don't want to use a query string...

Which one is faster? For a dropdownlist binding it the first time and using ViewSate or Turning of viewstate, keeping the data in a static datatable and binding the dropdownlist each time on a postback

Our ASP.NET App uses ASP State Session Management and has been rebuilt about 2 years ago [With .NET Framework 2.0]. We are currently in .NET framework 3.5 and have moved to SQL Server 2008 - but continue to use the same ASPState database. The State database has been upgraded to SQL Server 2008. Since then we have are seeing timouts/locks on ASPStateTempSessions table. I am wondering if we have to rebuild this database from scratch with some newer scripts?

Im working on my first ASPX webpage now, and Im wondering if there is some way to make a cache?
With a cache, I mean a list of variables that gets transferred from a db to for insance a hashtable the first time a user loads the page. When the next user loads the page, the db doesent get touched, but the variable is collected from the hashtable.
I tried to make a static class, but it re-loaded for each time I refreshed the page.

I'm running a website on a SQL 2008 database. At the moment most of my data is in cache but what I want to do is be able to update the data on a regular basis, say every 3 hours, maybe more frequently. Obviously I can set the cache to expire and pick up new data, but how can I replace part of the database (because some tables are populated by the user) in the background, so that when the cache expires the new data is picked up?
I notice when I upload data through VS, it wont let me upload if the DB is in use - so how do I get round issues like this?

I have upgraded our system from .NET 1.1 to .NET 4.0. I also had to update the ASP Session State database to version 2 by running the following command in the command window.
aspnet_regsql.exe -S localhostSQL2005 -d ASPState -ssadd -sstype c -E
Is there any way that I can configure the MSI setup project to check the ASP.NET Session State and install version 2 if needed?

I have three cascading dropdowns and two of them need to trigger something outside of the dropdowns, so I have OnSelectedIndexChanged events on them. So as to not reload the whole page when these items are triggered, I have all of this in an Update Panel.
Everything works fine -- the only issue that the client doesn't like is that the cascading dropdowns reload on the asynchronous postback.

I'm seeing a really strange error that I'm having a difficult timetracking down. I think its related to my configuration of Rhino ESB, though I'm not sure
if RSB is actually causing it, so I figured I'd ask and see ifanyone else has come across this in any other usages of MSMQ.I'm using RSB as a client in a web app (ASP.NET, the client runs in the background). The client talks to a windows service via the MSMQ binding for RSB. Restarting the service never appears to have an effect on MSMQ, neither does restarting IIS by hand. However, whenever I actually restart the computer itself, MSMQ always refuses to start back up, claiming that a "queue is in an inconsistent state". Attempting to start MSMQ manually results in the same error, effectively rendering the MSMQ install completely useless. The only way to solve it is to actually remove then reinstall MSMQ.
The only information I've found via the almighty Google are references to a problem in MSMQ 2.0 (this problem is occurring in MSMQ 4.0). I've verified that Dispose is being called on on the bus at shutdown, in both the service and the web site.

The sites I mantain are using way too much ViewState and I'd like to reduce that so the size of the page is reduced. I've done a lot to remedy this but I have an issue relating to DropDown lists that use AutoPostbacks.I have a dropdown list with a lot of list items and a good part of the ViewState usage is to hold the list item data. If I disable ViewState and set the AutoPostBack property to true, the page will post back and in the page load I am trying to repopulate the dropdown list with cached data. However, it seems that the SelectedIndexChanged event doesn't fire when EnableViewState="false".Is it possible to make this work without enabling ViewState for the drodown list?

i think i can't see the forrest for the trees.......there HAS to be a simple way to do this. so i created a web page and on that page i have two dropdown lists. the first is STATE and the second is COUNTY. the STATE is a static list. but the COUNTY is generated whenever the STATE changes. now....when i set up the COUNTY dropdown list, it prompted me for a datasource. i have a store procedure which takes the 2-letter STATE code and returns all the counties for that state. so i set up the datasource for the COUNTY drop down list by just following the prompts from visual studio. i gave it a default state of Alabama (AL). and all is fine. so here's my question: how can i reload the datasource and subsequently the COUNTY dropdown list? i see no way to access the datasource that the environment generated for me.
well.....i thought.......i'll just do it the old fashioned way and set up a command.......connectionstring.......and sql statement and load the results into a datareader (do i REALLY have to do all that?)
but it still doesn't work. what's the simplest way for me to just re-fire my stored procedure and pass it the STATE parameter and reload the datasource and dropdown list?

I have a simple search page with a drop down list that I would like the value to persist on refresh..basically the user will select their location from the dropdownlist and this will be used to populate a gridview. After this the page is set to refresh at a set interval and use the same location data initially selected by the user. However the initial selection is lost each time the page refreshes.
p.s system is to old for ajax!
<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="300" />
<script runat="server">
Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("****").ConnectionString
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
If Not IsPostBack Then
Dim conn As SqlConnection
conn = New SqlConnection(connectionString)
Dim Locationcommandtext As String
Locationcommandtext = "SELECT * FROM [Location] ORDER BY [Location]"
Dim loccomm As SqlCommand
loccomm = New SqlCommand(Locationcommandtext, conn)
Dim reader As SqlDataReader
Try
conn.Open()
reader = loccomm.ExecuteReader()
Locations.DataSource = reader
Locations.DataValueField = "LocationID"
Locations.DataTextField = "Location"
Locations.DataBind()
Catch ex As SqlException
Response.Write("SQL Error:
" & ex.ToString())
Finally
conn.Close()
End Try
Else
'"Viewstate should kick in here"
End If
End Sub
</script>
