State Management :: Error On Page And "Unknown Error - Code 0" In Error Message?
Dec 6, 2010
I have a serious problem with "Error on Page". The error message points to line number 939, char 13. In my code behind (C#) in line number 939 is only an obsolete method found which is no longer called. The aspx file has only 339 lines. What the heck is line number 939?The Webapplication allows a special user group to change some group memberships for members of another user group in Active Directory. The App handles 3internal DataViews derived from corresponding DataTables as DataSource for 3 GridViews and some other internal lists with objects (List<obj>).
It uses windows authentication to get current users credentials and his membership in the "Operators" group. This credentials will be passed-through to allow the process managing group memberships in active directory.After starting the App in browser it seems to work fine. But after an indeterminated time it doesn't longer respond. After each click on buttons (or link buttons) you only can see the message "Error on Page" in the browsers status bar below.I played with session timeout, storing the DataTables in session variables, without success.
Last week I found this article here: [URL]" and I addedEnableEventValidation="false" ViewStateEncryptionMode="Never"
to Page declaration. However, at some point the the server does not respond. Each time the worker process on webserver recycles it seems the application turn to wrong state. Might be important: All controls including GridViews are embedded in an AJAX UpdatePanel. How to get a better error message? Debugging is enabled and Custom Error handling On, Off or Remote Only brings the same result as described.
When I add an update command to my page and run the page I get this error message
Server Error in '/MYApplication.

All the examples and websites i have looked at redirect a user to the error.aspx page when an error occurs. How do you just display a friendly error message on the page the user is viewing saying something like "Sorry unable to do whatever" I've tried using a try catch block on my class that executes a stored procedure and put another try catch on the controller, but this does not work and i still get the default error message (System.InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code) My code is below:
[Code]....
So how can i just return ViewData["SqlError"] message in page.
I am trying to handle the unhandled exceptions in my project.I tried with this following code in my web.config filebut it is not at all redirecting to an error page which i have created instead of that it is throwing an exception in my code itselef. How to print the error description over therein my custom error page.

I have a page that loads a usercontrol dynamically. Depended on the user's actions, this control may be unloaded in Page_PreRender and a different control may be loaded instead. I am attempting to use the solution outlined by Mark DotNet Evans in this post: http://forums.asp.net/p/1491790/3814320.aspx
This all works great, except if the user clicks the refresh button in the browser just after the change of usercontrol. Then, I get an error
Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. ...
I assume the error is caused by the browser re-posting the request with the old viewstate that matched the control tree when the page was loaded, but no longer does. How can I prevent getting an error when the user reloads the page?
I have got an error "server response error : Unknown server error" while uploading file using Ajax AsyncFileUpload, code behind function is triggered while uploading, but after code behind function executed, we are getting this error.
I am using the following code to ensure that the web pages in my website are not cached by the browser:
this.Response.Expires = 0;
this.Response.AppendHeader("Pragma", "no-cache");
this.Response.Cache.SetNoStore();
This is working fine & the browser displays a page with the message, "Warning. This page has expired....". Is there any way I can display a custom page instead of the default page shown by the browser?
I have created an application which runs fine in VS2010.Now i am trying to host that application using inetmgr.When i try to browse the page from inetmgr content view then i get the "Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified".If i browse the page from VS i am able to do it.I am not able to host the app. may be the reason is the above stated error.
I just got a new computer with Windows 7 and installed IIS, including support for ASP. I am running everything locally on my computer. A simple statement like <% response.write time() %> works fine, so ASP is working, However, when I try to run a page that accesses a database (at least, I am assuming that that is the root of the problem) then I get the unhelpful error message:An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator.If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error. I have no idea where to begin. the database is in the same location as it was on with my old computer, and I have adjusted permissions to the database so that everyone except Creator Owner has full permissions - for whatever reason I am not able to change Creator Owner permissions.
i am experiencing thi error when i click on the application in the remote machine.

What do i have to do to eliminate this error message?
I am trying to use the Application_Error to redirect the user to a custom error page. I know I could use the web.config to do this, but let's assume for now that this is not a desirable path to take.
Initially, I tried to do a Response.Redirect to perform this, however, there seem to be occasions where the current http context does not define the response object. So, I attempted to perform a check to make sure that the response object is not null prior to attempting the redirection, and if it is not defined, perform a Server.Transfer instead.
What happens is that in most cases, the Redirect causes the browser to some generic "friendlyish" error page rather than the requested error page.
So then I tried using Server.Transfer exclusively, and this worked well for most cases, however, sometimes the transfer didn't seem to take in the browser. Changing it back to a redirect in these cases solved that problem, but reintroduced the issue where the errors previously being captured and transferred now were being redirected.
What I surmised from this is that in certain contexts where the Application_Error method is trapped, it is necessary to use Server.Transfer in redirection, whereas in others, it is necessary to use Response.Redirect. The question then became twofold: (a) When is one necessary and when is the other? and (b) What available information can I poll to tell me when a given condition exists.
After much searching, I cannot find a reasonable answer to this question. So I began to trap errors and examine the HttpContext object for some indicator. One thing that I was looking for is the reason why if even with a defined Response in the current context does a redirect fail. The only thing that stood out is that even though a Response object may exist, the Session data could be absent. I added the case to check whether the Session data was null and perform a Transfer in this case and it seems to be handling it properly.
I emphasize "seems to be handling it properly" because no documentation I've been able to find confirms either the problem I am having or whether this is an appropriate strategy for solving it.
I guess the question is, am I on the right track here or is the null Session object just a red herring, indicative of nothing relevant. Here's the check I have set up for reference.
In my application i use iframe (to be more specific; Greybox tool). Sometimes i had an unkown error when i open page in iframe. Then i applied this fix : [URL] and that unknown error disseppeared. But i have another problem now:( I am using following script to focus to the first textbox whenever my input pages are opened in iframe.
aField = document.getElementById('txt_PID');setTimeout("aField.focus()", 50); After i applied previous fix, i get this error when i load page in iframe for the first time :
Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of type that does not accept focus. Here, txt_PID doesnt contain any ajaxtoolkit things. (also Enabled= true and Visible=true etc.) . Last thing, my current test page contains just 3 controls: txt_PID just plain Asp.TextBox ajaxHTMLEditor another textboxt with MaskedEditExtender. If i remove HTMLEditor from page; i dont get that error( Can't move focus...) and also i dont get first error which i applied that fix in toolkit.
This bug is very difficult to troubleshoot. I run 4 apps on the same server, all 4 are clones from the first one, just differ on their database connection. 2 run perfectly, but on two of them, when making a postback from a certain page, by clicking a button or by changing a datagrid page, it throws this error:
Can anyone explain to me why this first example works fine but the second, which would use a little less code and in my mind appears to achieve the same result, yet throws a null ref error?
This works ...
if (Session["sid"] == null || Session["sid"].ToString() == "") { // session is NOT valid. } else { // session is valid. }
This does not work?
if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(Session["sid"].ToString())) { // session is NOT valid. } else { // session is valid. }
I receive the error message "Error: Your session has expired. Please refresh your browser." When I export a table in ASP to Excel. I know for a fact that the correct data to export exists. Everything works fine except for this error message. I don't see how the session on a browser could run out in a matter of the one second it takes for the Excel file to pop up
I use custom session state provider (appfabric). I marked my pagecontroller class with [Serializable]. When i redirect a page i get error HttpContext is not marked as serializable. I have a property in pagecontroller class;
[Code]....
Is this piece of code may be the main reason for serialization error ? I use the it nearly everywhere, so i can not simply detach and test it.
