When I click checkbox, it calls javascript function and enables textboxes (I have added onclick attribute to checkbox). Page also has <asp:Button ...Text="Submit"/> whcih actually grabs the data from the textboxes on the page and send it to the databse. Here is the Onclick event of the <asp"button../>

If the exception is thrown , textBoxes are not reset but on postback textboxes appear as disabled (values are not reset)
So here is what happening on postback when exception is thrown
1) Values are not reset (that is what want)
2) Texboxes appear as Disabled (that is what I don't want on exception, REMEMBER I enable textBoxes using client side script)
How can I keep the textboxes enabled = "true"

Oct 25, 2010I have a system that has several large objects that need to be built and populated each and every time, and these objects may be accessed quite often as well. As a strategy, caching would not be that good for me because there are potentially thousands of these objects which are fairly large. So I propose to serialize the objects to the file system and then deserialize it when I need those objects again. I have several classes that need this serialization functionality.
These objects change as well, so on the next access I check if there were any changes and then I grab only the changes and edit the object, and then reserialize the object.
My question is what is the best way to do this, since I have several classes ..

Mar 10, 2011I have one web application. In that, I have two pages. One is view/edit page and another one is login page. The view/edit page contains one edit button and one login button.
First I execute view/edit page, at that time I dont want to show edit button. When user clicks login button, the page will be redirected to login page, where the user has to enter username and password. If user enters both correct, again the page will be redirected back to view/edit page. This time, the edit button has to be shown to make some modifications, since the user is authenticated.
I tried this thing by using session with cookieless. It works perfectly but some times it shows web page not available. I made session timeout 120 minutes and cookieless is true. In URL session ID also available.
So, whats the alternate way to maintain user log state or whats wrong in web.config file.

Mar 31, 2011I have created a user control with a property named CurrentPage. When a link button is clicked it runs PostbackToPage() and passes a command argument in which then sets the CurrentPage property with this new value. On the page which uses the user control I am trying to display the updated CurrentPage property after a postback. When I click the link button to cause the postback the CurrentPage is the default value. However when I click it again it works as expected. So it seems to only work after 2 postbacks. How can I get this to work after the first postback?

Aug 17, 2010I have a requirement where i need to download mutiple files as a single zip file.There is linkbutton named HOME as well in the page. when this linkbutton is clicked it should redirect to homepage.aspx. I found a ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll in net and used in my website. Here is the code

With the above code i got the expected result i,e. i can zip the files and save on client system. But the problem is after saving/canceling the zip file if user clicks on linkbutton in the page_load event Session[getdata] became null. there is no data in Session. what might be the problem? Actually it should redirect to homepage.aspx but its going to login.aspx because Session[getdata] is null.

1.User logins with his credentials((We retrive their credentials from login table) .
2.He invites some of his friends for a birthday party.
3.And send an url link to share some of the gifts with them in which gifts are provided in Share.aspx page.
4.Userlogouts.

3.And he logs out.

Jul 23, 2010I have a search page containing a collapsible panel with several controls including text, radio, drop list and check box. In the same page there is a gridview to display search result and links to other pages.Everytime I click on a link in the gridview, the viewstate is only maintained if I nevigate with the pagination of the gridview. However if I click on a link in the gridview and click the back button to the search, everything goes back to default, and the search results will be gone from the gridview. How may I enable the controls and the gridview to remain the same if I hit back button to it?

May 3, 2010I have a abc.aspx page having some control like (drop downs, text boxes), i am filling a grid based on selected items in the drop downs and date selected from the ajax calender extender control attached to the from data and to date text boxes.
Inside grid there is a link which redirects to bcd.aspx, this page (bcd.aspx) is having a back button to redirect abc.aspx.
Now what i want is, abc.aspx should main its state like grid, drop downs and text boxes should be shown as it was earlier, i.e. all should have same values as it was at the time of redirecting to bcd.aspx.
Yes, there is a way to maintain the state by passing all values from query string and than get all values back and rebind all controls. But i don't want to go this way because i will have pass so many values in query string.

Now when I run the project and in query string I set [URL] then for the very first page(home page itself) it shows me French translation,but on subsequent page,that query string parameter ?c=FR is lost and hence it shows be English translation not French translation since it does not pickup French resx file.If I manually append ?c=FR in subsequent page then it shows the French translation.Is there is way how I can make that query stringparameter available in all pages.Structure is there to hold Country and locale variables. In all pages I am calling GetLocalizationInfo() method as follow

And I create instance info to pass locale and country as parameter. GetProductDetails(id,info.Country,info.locale). why my query string parameters get lost on subsequent pages.

State Management :: ViewState Value Set After 2nd Postback?
May 3, 2010I am creating a simple string of values that get added to a label after a post back. I am setting the values thorugh ViewState. However, my appended values do not get updated until AFTER the 2nd postback. Example:
On Page_Load the label displays a "0";
If I enter a "1" in the text box and click the button the label still displays a "0";
If I click the button again (the 2nd postback) then my label correctly displays "0,1"; This works for whatever value I enter after. i.e. "0,1,35,hello world", etc.
What I am I missing? Code Below.

State Management :: Protect Variables On PostBack?
May 19, 2010I have a slight delemma that I have not been able to work out.
My Scenario is:
Page_Loads > Calls Sub Random Data Retrieved from a Table - Displayed on screen & Sets Variables from Row(0) for an Insert Statement > Click Button to Insert those Variables.(essentially, the Insert Statement Parameters are Dynamic in that they change each time the page loads)
The Problem I am having, is that each time the page loads, I need a New DataSet, and the Page_Load is operating too quickly, changing my variables on postBack and ultimately, inserting the new values that are now loaded.
How can I:
Page_Loads > Get and Set the Variables I need > Protect Those Variables from changing on the Next Postback (so the insert statement gets the values Iwant to insert but also set and get the next ones)?
If Not Page.IsPostBack Doesnt Work for me in my Page_Load because each time the page.loads, I need those new Random Variables from a DataSet
Someone had Mentioned ViewState, but I am uncertain how to use it. I just want to protect the variables so that it inserts properly

Mar 27, 2010I am in beginner level on developing web pages. I was coding on desktop applications and as you know it is easy to say that web applications are extremely different than desktop applications.
I wonder why data are lost between postbacks.???? And what is the best way not to lose the data belonging to a specific control (especially gridview). Session or viewstate or anything else?
