State Management :: .Net Website Logged In Pages Still Displayed By Pressing Back Button In Mozilla Firefox Browse?
Jun 18, 2010
I want know, If an error has occurred and website is redirected to the Custom Error Page and is also logged out. If back button of the Mozilla browser is pressed, previous logged in page is displayed. I have also used
1.
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
2.
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now);
in Page_init on Custom error page. Also set the values of .ASPXAUTH and other cookies to 1 but again page is not going to the Login Page. These cookies could also not be removed.

How to get that how many pages accesses by a user in a website.
Actually, rather then putting code in each page I want some generalized method/technique that if user Logged to a website and during his Login period what was his activity and which page(s) he accesed.
Note:
1. My website pages are under MasterPage.
2. MasterPage has a MasterMenu.
3. For singlePage activity I used Page.GetType.Name

I wasn't sure where to post this type of question so here you go. The title says it all really I'm using the Microsoft.web.preview dll so that we can provide history support for the Ajax controls used in a .net 2.0 project. This works in IE6 but fails to function correctly in IE8 it appears to add additional history points when you attempt to navigate backwards through history.
Enter the page > Make a change using Ajax (add history point) > press back button you would expect to go back to initial page state but another two history points have been inserted between your initial page request and new your manually added history point. there is no where in the code that is adding these additional history points by accident. Remember it works perfectly under IE6. What are my options do I have to upgrade to 3.5 .net to make use of the history functionality built into the scriptmanager?

I have a page with a few usercontrols. from a usercontrol I will redirect to a new page(response.redirect). Now On pressing the back button I want the data to persist for the usercontrols as well. I have tried it out by overriding DeterminePostBackMode, LoadPageStateFromPersistenceMedium, and SavePageStateToPersistenceMedium but all data except the ones within the usercontrol persist. i feel what i have tried is ok for the page data but for usercontrol data do i need to do something else.
P.S: I understand that i could be storing all user controls value in a session but I am looking for another way because its going to be a huge task taking each controls values in a session. I am not using any dynamically loaded user controls. May be if I know of a way of saving and restoring viewstate for user controls it would work but..

I have a Deafult.aspx page with a form and a button. The form consists of a drop down list and a radio button list. When I click the button I submit the form to a different page, search.aspx. When I click the back button in the browser. Somehow the radio button list values stay the same as when I last clicked them (not any special configuration by my side), and the drop down list gets back to its default value. My radio button list has a on select event that changes the values of the drop down list. The problem is, as I mentioned, the radio button list keeps its former value when I submitted the page, and the dropDownList doesn't. So they are incoherent.
How do I make them both get back to their default values? (as this is no postback... right?) or how do I keep their former values. FYI, the problem doesn't occur in internet explorer. In chrome this happens. And in fire fox, it just gets back the dropdownlist is ok, but the radio button list's default selected index isn't even selected.

Many web applications use sessions to check the logged in status of the users. Is there a better approach to check the logged in status instead of using session state?
I'm looking at a pure ReSTful approach where is no session state at all. This may make more sense in an mvc application rather than an asp.net application.

I am trying to implement Login/Logout functionality in my website without using inbuilt functionality of Login controls in ASP.NET. In some pages, which require the user to be logged in, I have written this in Page_Load
if (Session["cod"] == null && Session["admin"] == null)
{
Response.Redirect("You need to Login.aspx");
}
if (Session["cod"] != null || Session["admin"] != null)
{
LinkButton1.Text = "Logout";
}
if (Page.IsPostBack == false)
{
log_bind();
grid1_bind();
grid2_bind();
}
But while I was testing this, I noticed that when I press the Back/Forward button on the browser, these pages are viewable without being logged in. How do I prevent this?

http://localhost:51422/MyApp/Pages/FormView.aspx
I want 2 things:
1- I don't want any people to delete "...../FormView.aspx" and go to this[URL] and browse the directory pages and folders names.
2- If anybody tired that, the application should redirect him to login page or home page.

I have a requirment , my site is using Formauthentication cookie to validate the users , so once the same user is logged in to another browser again ( same Machine or different) then I need to log off the first site and need to allow the second one active.I am thinking to implement this by storing a uniqueID in the DataBase user table .Once the user Logs in then I will store this ID in to the database and for each request I will check whether the ID is same or not, once the user logs again in to another browser then the Unique ID will get generated again and store (update the previous one) to the user table so that the request from the fisrt instance browser will fail to validate and kick out to login Page.this procedure will reduce the performance since all the time it need to intract with DB, so is there any other possible way to Implement this scenario with out using BD - but using formauthentication cookie.

I have created a simple website in asp.net using forms authendications but when I publish my website in IIS 6 on a Windows Server 2003 machine it keeps the users logged in for ever even though I have set the web.config to expire after 30 min. My website has 2 pages a login.aspx and a home.html. When I run the website in my development machine using the ASP.NET Development Server I have no problem the website works as expected meaning the users can not access the home.html unless the have been authendicated by the login.aspx page.
Also once loged in, after clearing the browser cookies the web site asks for login again which is again the behavior that I am trying to accomplish. However once the website is on IIS does not take in account the authendication that I have set up on my web.config. What is overriding my web.config? Do I need to make some changes to the global configuration of IIS?

In my Application_BeginRequest I have code that gets query string value ?c=FR or ?c=US and store it in cookies.Based on query string value I have either US or FR,locale is selected from locale table.If ?c=FR then locale will be fr-FR and if it is US then locale will be en-US.My code is below.
void Application_BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
LocalizationInfo loc = GetLocalizationInfo();
if (Request.Cookies["Localization"] == null)
Response.Cookies.Add(new HttpCookie("Localization"));
Response.Cookies["Localization"]["Country"] = loc.Country;
CultureInfo objCI = new CultureInfo(loc.Locale);
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = objCI;
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = objCI;
}
public static LocalizationInfo GetLocalizationInfo()
{
string countryCode = "";
string sLocale = "";
if (HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["Localization"]["Country"] != null)
countryCode = HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["Localization"]["Country"];
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["c"]))
countryCode = HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["c"];
if (countryCode == "")
countryCode = "US";
sLocale = HertzRent2Buy.DataProvider.ListData.GetLocale(countryCode);
LocalizationInfo ret = new LocalizationInfo();
ret.Country = countryCode;
ret.Locale = sLocale;
return ret;
}
public struct LocalizationInfo
{
public string Country;
public string Locale;
}
Now when I run the project and in query string I set [URL] then for the very first page(home page itself) it shows me French translation,but on subsequent page,that query string parameter ?c=FR is lost and hence it shows be English translation not French translation since it does not pickup French resx file.If I manually append ?c=FR in subsequent page then it shows the French translation.Is there is way how I can make that query stringparameter available in all pages.Structure is there to hold Country and locale variables. In all pages I am calling GetLocalizationInfo() method as follow
LocalizationInfo info = some.DataProvider.Globalization.GetLocalizationInfo();
And I create instance info to pass locale and country as parameter. GetProductDetails(id,info.Country,info.locale). why my query string parameters get lost on subsequent pages.

I am trying to see if it possible to create a back button that goes back 3 pages and refreshes that page. The make up of my page is a little complex. The Home page has a password prompt that enables a multiview to be visible with a gridview of information. The gridview has a details link that has a 2 querystrings that gets sent to the details page. The details page has the ability to be edited and updated. this is why I wanted it to go back 3 pages. The code I am using to go back is
<asp:Button ID="Button2" runat="server" CausesValidation="False" OnClientClick="javascript:history.go(-3);return false;" Text="Back" UseSubmitBehavior="False" />

I am working on a asp.net 3.5 app. In the Global.asax in the Application_Error method, I am logging everthing to ddatabase (log4Net).
I have a session limit of 20 minutes. What happens when the user hits that limit and then clicks on the Submit Button of the app. ?Will that generate any exception? and will that exception be logged into my database as I am logging all exceptions in my Application_Error method.

We are facing a very strange issue, which is senseless. We have dedicated test server and live server. cookies work properly both on IE and firefox locally. when we deploy it on dedicated test server, It also work their on both browsers. But as soon we deploy it to our live dedicated server, it works properly on IE, but firefox does not remember cookies. Here i want to tell you one more thing that both test setver and live server configurations are same. they both are 64 bit machines. Waiting for ur responses.
