I have a page with a few usercontrols. from a usercontrol I will redirect to a new page(response.redirect). Now On pressing the back button I want the data to persist for the usercontrols as well. I have tried it out by overriding DeterminePostBackMode, LoadPageStateFromPersistenceMedium, and SavePageStateToPersistenceMedium but all data except the ones within the usercontrol persist. i feel what i have tried is ok for the page data but for usercontrol data do i need to do something else.
P.S: I understand that i could be storing all user controls value in a session but I am looking for another way because its going to be a huge task taking each controls values in a session. I am not using any dynamically loaded user controls. May be if I know of a way of saving and restoring viewstate for user controls it would work but..

I am using the following code to ensure that the web pages in my website are not cached by the browser:
this.Response.Expires = 0;
this.Response.AppendHeader("Pragma", "no-cache");
this.Response.Cache.SetNoStore();
This is working fine & the browser displays a page with the message, "Warning. This page has expired....". Is there any way I can display a custom page instead of the default page shown by the browser?

I wasn't sure where to post this type of question so here you go. The title says it all really I'm using the Microsoft.web.preview dll so that we can provide history support for the Ajax controls used in a .net 2.0 project. This works in IE6 but fails to function correctly in IE8 it appears to add additional history points when you attempt to navigate backwards through history.
Enter the page > Make a change using Ajax (add history point) > press back button you would expect to go back to initial page state but another two history points have been inserted between your initial page request and new your manually added history point. there is no where in the code that is adding these additional history points by accident. Remember it works perfectly under IE6. What are my options do I have to upgrade to 3.5 .net to make use of the history functionality built into the scriptmanager?

I want know, If an error has occurred and website is redirected to the Custom Error Page and is also logged out. If back button of the Mozilla browser is pressed, previous logged in page is displayed. I have also used
1.
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
2.
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now);
in Page_init on Custom error page. Also set the values of .ASPXAUTH and other cookies to 1 but again page is not going to the Login Page. These cookies could also not be removed.

I am performing my first steps with ASP.NET for my employment.Yesterday I tried to perform saving a value to a sessionstate variable, but it does not work.I am using C# and want to code in .NET 3.5. [Code]....
The click performs a postback to a second website where the value is to be displayed on a simple label.The value I initialized in the Global.asax is saved to the variable and then read on the second page, but I cannot manipulate it using the textbox and the button on the first page. I just don't get it...I even tried on different machines and different VS editions.

I Have two pages source.aspx and target.aspx. Source.aspx has one button and other form controls the collect input. The button has its postbackurl property set to target.aspx. On target.aspx I have another button and other form controls that collect input. When the user clicks on the target.aspx button, I want the inputs from both source and target gathered to be inserted into the database. The problem is the Page.PreviousPage property is only available during the initial rendering of the target.aspx page. So when I click on target.aspx button, PreviousPage is now null.
One strategy of mine is to collect the information on page_load and store it in ViewState, but is there any other method that I should consider in this process. I think the cleanest approach would be to somehow access PreviousPage on the button_click event handler, but how can I access this property.

I have two radio button list:
*1* report views -- 4 options -- NOT in updatepanel
*2* pagination views -- 2 options -- IS in updatepanel
The situation goes as follows: Refresh WORKS in default setting but when I select *2* radio button options and refresh the page renders the state that the (1) was entered in.
Example: () are the radio buttons
Report Viewing: () (x) () () Pagination View: (x) () REFRESH works!
Report Viewing: () (x) () () Pagination View: () (x) REFRESH fails to display Report Viewing: () (x) () () Pagination View: (x) ()
Report Viewing: () (x) () () Pagination View: (x) () REFRESH works!
OR: () are the radio buttons
Report Viewing: () () (x) () Pagination View: () (x) REFRESH works
Report Viewing: () () (x) () Pagination View: (x) () REFRESH fails to display Report Viewing: () (x) () () Pagination View: () (x)
Report Viewing: () () (x) () Pagination View: () (x) REFRESH works
I am using the session variable to hold the Pagination Viewing option but during page states, I've noticed that when a 2nd option is selected of *2* radio buttons (doesn't matter of 1st or 2nd option was initially selected) that during debugging mode the step over corrects the issue but not the right table viewing. Upon entering Page_Init selection selection index of radio button list returns to 1st option.

This is the code i use :
<asp:HyperLink NavigateUrl="~/Login.aspx" ID="hypSignOut" runat="server" Text="Sign Out"></asp:HyperLink>
However, after signing out, I click the back button on my browser, I can still go back into the site. How do I prevent this?

I need to insert a SessionID into a database (along with other values). I'm getting the session ID simply by using Session.SessionID.
To test this, I've just assigned this to the text property of a label in a page.
Whenever I hit F5, the SessionId in the Label changes.
It is my understanding that the Session Id should remain the same until the browser is closed.
Am I wrong?
I need the SessionID linked to this browser session - a value which remains static until the browser is closed.

This last week I had an issue about refreshing all open sessions on an asp.net web site. The scenario it's like this:
It's a LAN application with different roles (let's say "Role A" and "Role B") and a database of SQL server.
Any "Role A" user can click a button and start something like a survey (defines a query and the possible options).
Then, any "Role B" user have to answer that survey (just once).
Here comes my problem...if I am a "Role B" user, and I have the "AnswerToSurvey.aspx" page open...how it can automatically update or refresh after the "Role A" user inserted the survey? I mean, I know that if I press F5 I will achieve it, or even using asp:Timer or javascript timer, but any of them are precise.
Any suggest? I've tried using Global.asax Application_BeginRequest and so, but no lucky. Is there any effective way to notifiy a user that something has changed? I'm not looking for a "chat like" system, just notify any "Role B" user about the change.

I'd like my page to refresh through MetaTag and redirect to SessionEnd.aspx, when the user Session expires. I use this code:
[Code]....
If SessionTimout = 1 minute, this code attaches Refresh Metatag, but it refreshes after 2 minutes, not 1 minute after the Session expires. If the user browse the page, the Session doesn't expires. The session should expires 1 minute after the user stop browsing the page.Is it possible to control the real session behaviour, not just to put static value, like 2 minutes or SessionTimout + custom minutes.Can I use something like:
[Code]....
and everytime reset this Metatag Refresh minutes?

I have a linkbutton that displays a different record each time the page is loaded. When I first bring the page up, I can hit F5 repeatedly and the linkbutton works properly rendering a diff record each time. But in a dropdown list, or any other control that causes a postback, the linkbutton remains static, why?
In my Page_load I have
AccessDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT blah FROM table where trim(recid)=" &
"'" & rndVal &
"'"
AccessDataSource1.DataBind()
LinkButton1.Text = DetailsView1.Rows(0).Cells(1).Text

I have an application containing many aspx-scripts.
How can I refresh the sessionvariables before timeout on the server independent of which script is loaded in the browser? (to prevent timeout when the browser is not used so the sessionvariables is refreshed)
When I used Coldfusion, I run the application in a frame and updated the session-variables by using a hidden-frame, but this techniqes dont work in aspx.

I receive the error message "Error: Your session has expired. Please refresh your browser." When I export a table in ASP to Excel. I know for a fact that the correct data to export exists. Everything works fine except for this error message. I don't see how the session on a browser could run out in a matter of the one second it takes for the Excel file to pop up
