State Management :: Capture The Application Pool Event In The Code?
Nov 3, 2010
How can i capture Application pool recycle event in asp.net c# code so that when recycle event occurs i can make a post back or refresh the page in the code ?. Our Application sessionstate mode is StateServer which helps me in not loosing the session data but still i need to refresh the page at server side only on this particluar event. The reason is at the client side javascript webform_DoCallBack doesnot fire when there is application pool recycle and thus website stops getting updates.we have a timer set to 15 minutes when webform_DoCallBack fires and fecthes updates for the page and displays it.

All we have a global ships position tracking website which runs smoothly until IIS application pool recycles. When there is workerprocess recycling looks like session state expires as a result i loose all session data and when customer clicks refresh button he is redirected to login page.
In web.config Session state mode is set to InProc so i changed it to State Server but to my luck i have MAP object which is not serialiazable which is causing the maps from not appearing on the website.I tried adding serializable attribute to the object class but still not succesfull. Our website is accessed by our customers whose count is more than 1000.
Changing the session state mode from InProc to StateServer can really slow down the response time so
Is it good to go further fix the serailizable issues and move to state server?.
Is there any way I can retain my session data when application pool recyles?..
Stopping Application pool from recycling may not be a good idea considering health factor of web server.

I have several web applications on a server using the same application pool. The worker process usually takes a lot of ram but usually only from one application. I can successfully limit the cache usage by setting "PrivateBytesLimit" in web.config file when the application uses it own dedicated application pool.
Does anyone know how this setting will be applied when using shared application pool? Is it per application, per worker process or per application pool? Also if it is not per application which setting from which application will be applied?

I am very new to asp.net. I developed one application. In that I have two pages. First page contains Application.Get() in page load event, here I read this Application variable, initially it returns NULL. If it is NULL, I make some buttons invisible. Then I jump to second page, in that page contains Application.Set(). Again I jump from second page to first page, this time Application.Get() is not NULL, I make some buttons visible. This is ok, if I execute the program in .net software.
But, when I publish this same program to web server like IIS, it is not working properly. After publishing very first time the first page returns NULL after that it doesnt return NULL even I closed the browser. I dont know why. In program, I used 2.0 framework. IIS also has 2.0 framework. Please clear this issue.

I receive this error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1ASP.global_asax+my_struct]' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[_Default+my_struct]'

User Interface: 2 Labels; 1 Buttons
Requirements: Create a Web Page in ASPx that will do the following:
1)One label will provide a count of how many times Button 1 has been clicked in the current session.
2)One label will provide a count of how many times Button 1 has been clicked by all users of the application. The Application Code for the Button should start at 100 (set this in the Global.asax file). this is what i have so far but i cant seem to get the application state to work properly.

I've exhausted my resources and still have been unable to determine why I'm experiencing this issue:
- I have an ASP/VB Website
- I've added a Global.asax file
- In the Global.asax file, I'm initializing some settings in the Session_Start method
If I use the Built-In VS web server, the Session_Start method is hit and the settings are initialized
If I use an IIS Virtual Directory for the website, the Session_Start method is NOT hit

I need to have a timer to count down a multiple-paged online quiz. The timer countdown should decrement consecutively on each following page. It is tricky to use javascript to maintain the timer value across multiple pages through sequences of postbacks. So, I have been searching a server-side solution and found this:
http://forums.asp.net/p/1621352/4161304.aspx (see the response by Wenchao Zeng - MSFT, the 4th post in that thread).
I created a small web application to test it out and it works great. But when I put the code into a header user control (Header.ascx) in my quiz application, the Timer control's OnTick event never fires. I put a break point in the first line of Timer1_Click, but the debugger of visual studio never gets there.
I tried this:
[Code]....
The code behind is the same (except maybe UI control names) as the one we see at the thread I referred to above. But Timer1_Click never gets executed (and hence my countdown doesn't get displayed). The CountDownTimer class works just fine because I can see from the debugger that the time value is decreasing like I want.

I have two web applications and sometimes I need user to jump from one application to another. Since they are two web applications( websites) in the same machine, I can not share session between them.
The technical challenge for me is how to pass session information (I only need to pass userID string information in the session) from one source application to another destination application -- so that the user feels Single Sign On and personal information is displayed for him/her in both application (as the userID is passed to the destination application, no re-login is needed).
Another challenge is that when the user jumps to another URL in another application -- I just need to generate the common unified [URL]
