Unable To Use Webclient Object To Download A File In SharePoint Email Enabled Document Library?

Feb 22, 2010

I am using webclient object to download a file to a windows folder from a sharepoint document library. The credentials I am passing to the webclient object are that of site collection administrator. everything works fine while i test it by uploading a file to the document library. But since the document library is email enabled; when an email is received the file is not transferred to the windows folder. i have put some workflow history events to see which user account is used when the email is received. the user account shown is the network service account. I have given write permissions on the folder to all the users; Everyone, Network service, the site collection administrator user etc. but still i cant figure out what is the problem.

Page To Download A File Requires Processing In Webclient?

Jan 11, 2011

I'm trying to use a java servlet in a 3rd party tool's web interface (CA service desk) to invoke it's download file functionality using a webclient in vb.net. The trouble is the text stream from response is markup and not the acutual text file stream.

It's like the page is redirecting to another page which actually presents the file for downloading. I have no idea what the redirected page URL is.

Is there a way I can process this redirected page in order to get at the download using a system.net.webclient?

C# - WebClient.DownloadFileAsync - Download Files One At A Time?

Jan 11, 2010

I am using the code below to download multiple attachments from a TFS server:

[code]....

However, there are a couple of problems with this approach:

The Thread.Sleep() is locking up my Form. I still need to make my own Thread or use BackgroundWorker. (I would like to avoid this as much as possible)The DownloadFileCompleted event is being triggered after ALL files has been downloaded. I don't know if this is a side-effect of using

System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000);

Is there a better approach to download files one at a time using WebClient.DownloadFileAsync?

Security :: WebClient Credential - How To Download Page From Local Site

Mar 3, 2010

At one point this was working, but somewhere something happened. What I am trying to do is simply download a page from our local site. I keep getting the 401 unauthorized.

I have tried NetworkCredential("user", "password", "domain")

and

CredentialCache cc = new CredentialCache();
cc.Add(new Uri("http://site/"), "Windows", new System.Net.NetworkCredential("user", "password", "domain"));

but that didnt work . We are using Windows authentication with no anonymous access.

Here is what was once working:

WebClient wc = new WebClient();
string FileName = Server.MapPath(\App_Data\rpt.htm);
wc.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
wc.DownloadFile("http://site/Report.aspx?OrderNum=7534&Type=inv&BE=1", FileName);

Internet Explorer - Unable To Download File

Jan 26, 2011

In our ASP.NET web site we have developed an aspx page that allows the user to download a file. The file path is sent as a parameter and then the file contents are read and written to the response stream. The code that we have used is the following:

string filepath = HttpContext.Current.Request.Params["FilePath"];
Response.Clear();
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + Path.GetFileName(filepath));
Response.TransmitFile(filepath);
Response.Flush();

Everything works as expected in our development environment, but when we use this piece of code in our production server, we noticed that when trying to download almost all kind of files, nothing happens in the browser. It just opens a new window for that aspx page, but then it gets closed almost inmediately. It is very weird since we have tried downloading .pdf, .doc, .xls, .txt and image files with no luck, except with some (not all) .msg files.

We have being looking for a clue sniffing the HTTP traffic that reach to the browser with Fiddler, but we have seen nothing strange. In all cases the file contents are sent to the browser with no differences, so it seems that it is the browser doesn´t show the open/save/cancel dialog. Here is a sample of the headers received in the browser with a failing file:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK Proxy-Connection:
Keep-Alive Connection: Keep-Alive
Content-Length: 421395 Via: 1.1
IBISA01 Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2011
12:02:54 GMT Content-Type:
application/octet-stream Server:
Microsoft-IIS/7.5 Cache-Control:
private Content-Disposition:
attachment;filename=P08-0656 Interflex
Especificación Inteface SGA ERP
Version 0.1.pdf X-AspNet-Version:
4.0.30319 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

And these are the headers of a file that can be downloaded:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK Proxy-Connection:
Keep-Alive Connection: Keep-Alive
Content-Length: 290816 Via: 1.1
IBISA01 Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2011
12:03:29 GMT Content-Type:
application/octet-stream Server:
Microsoft-IIS/7.5 Cache-Control:
private Content-Disposition:
attachment;filename=Acalaracion final
Fichero ascii proveedores
Interflex.msg X-AspNet-Version:
4.0.30319 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

In all cases, the full contents of the file appear after the headers with apparently no problems related to encoding. We are wondering if there is some possibility to debug or trace the Internet Explorer activity to see why is rejecting to download the files. The web server has Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5. The browsers that we are using are IE 8.0 over Windows 7.

Unable To Download A .mobi File From Server Even Though It Exists (works For Pdf And Txt)?

Jan 6, 2011

i have a site that will enable users to download an ebook file.i have successfully built architecture to enable users to download pdf and txt files, but it won't work when i try with a .mobi file, even though i know the file exists.the site works by allowig users to upload their work as .doc, .docx or .odt. once it's verified, the site publishes it as .pdf, .txt and .mobi and makes it available for download. the download code is...

string mstitle = title.ToUpper();
string dlpath = [the server path] + msid + mstitle + ".mobi";[code]....

(there are also versions with .txt and .pdf) the file definitely exists at the location in .txt, .pdf and .mobi extensions. however, the .mobi version simply won't work i get an error 404 resource not found. mystifyingly, the pdf and txt versions work perfectly.

C# - How To Detect That A File Was Successfully Received By A Webclient

Feb 18, 2010

My question is similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/194579/how-to-detect-when-a-user-has-successfully-finished-downloading-a-file-in-php but I have to do the same using IIS, ASP.NET and C#.

None of the methods in the HttpResponse class provide feedback if the data was sent or not, TransmitFile just does its job (or not) and does not provide any means of knowing the result.I was thinking of using the .Filter property but then again, the filter is based on the HttpResponseStream which does also not provide any feedback.

WebClient.DownloadFileAsync Downloading The File On Server

Oct 25, 2010

I am downloading a file from a remote location to my local machine. The paths I am using are saved in web.config and are in following format:

<add key="FileFolder" value="Files/"/>
<add key="LocalFileFolder" value="D:REAL" />

the code I am using to download is:

CreateDirectoryIfDoesNotExist();
WebClient webClient = new WebClient(); [code]...

When i deploy it on the server; and run my program, i get a message saying that download has completed successfully. But the problem is that the file is downloaded on the server machine in the filefolder (LocalFileFolder). I want it to be downloaded on the local machine. What is it that I am doing wrong?

Upload File To Aspx Site With WebClient?

Apr 1, 2011

I have an aspx website and I'd like to upload a file to it. The file is being processed later, so I need to support some extra information with it.

This is the website I have to far:

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Upload.aspx.cs" Inherits="ABC.Web.Upload" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<form id="Form1" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" runat="server">
<input type="file" id="File1" name="File1" runat="server" />
<input type="text" id="FileId" name="FileId" runat="server" />
<input type="submit" id="Submit1" value="Upload" runat="server" />
</form>
</body>
</html>

This (and the code behind) works very well when using a browser and clicking through the form. But I want to upload the file using the WebClient from C# code. I don't have to use the WebClient. I can also modify the upload.aspx to suit me, there is no requirement that it works from a browser, but this is the only example I've got working.

Looking at fiddler (I just started using it, so I probably have missed it) I could not figure out how I would create such a request from code.

At the moment when using the WebClient I am specifying the address and the local filename. I have a breakpoint in the code behind in my website but the File1 and FileId are not set (as expected).

How do I have to modify the website and how do I have to use the WebClient to get the upload working?

EDIT: Just found out about the Request.Files, that will give me the file, but how about the other fields?

C# - ThreadAbortException (WebClient Using DownloadFile To Grab File From Server)?

Mar 30, 2010

Referencing my Earlier Question, regarding downloading a file from a server and handling exceptions properly. I am positive that I had this solved, then in classic programming fashion, returned days later to frustratingly find it broken

Updated code:

private static void GoGetIt(HttpContext context)
{
var directoryInfoOfWhereTheDirectoryFullOfFilesShouldBe = new FileInfo(......); [code]....

This was working fine, and returning the zip, otherwise if the file didn't exist returning 404. Then on the client side I could handle this:

public bool Download()
{
try
{
using (var client = new WebClient()) [code]....

But the problem now is two things.

1) I get System.Threading.ThreadAbortException: Thread was being aborted in the server side try-catch block. Usually this was just a file not found exception. I have no idea what or why that new exception is throwing?

2) Now that a different exception is throwing on the server side instead of the file not found, it would seem I can't use this set up for the application, because back on client side, any exception is assumed to be filenotfound.]

Web Forms :: Controlling File Name Of The File Opened Directly From File Download Dialog?

Jul 26, 2010

I am downloading file from database using the following code. This code downloads an excel file from the database which has a macro attached to it when it is opened. This macro reads file name of the excel file and uses it for its computation. Everthing works file if user saves the file on his harddisk and then open if but if he directly opens the file from the dialog(by hitting 'Open' button) then file name of the opened excel file comes out be the name of the webform that has the above code and this leads to error in the macro. Is there any option through which i can control the name of the file if user directly opens the file from dialog or the option to disable or remove 'Open' button form the dialog?
