Update .net Web Site To .net 4, But After Conversion To Vs2010 Project
May 1, 2010
I'm a bit cautions about converting one of my sites to .net 4 at the same instant I move to vs2010. When I convert the sln and csproj files, there is an option to "convert web sites to .net 4" which I did not check.Once I get more comfortable using vs2010, I'd like to do that conversion to .net 4, but I can't find an option to do that in VS.
I have downloaded a project from the internet called the SMS Source example. I wanted to open this project in VS2010, so a conversion wizard has popped up prompting for the conversion. But it has errors in converting.
I have a Visual Studio solution created in 2005 and I want to start working with it in 2008. I opened it and it was run through the wizard. My first error is a message that says: The Web Applicatin Project is configured to use IIS. You must install the following IIS components: IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility. So, I googled that and found this:IIS 7.0 is included with Windows Vista. However, when you first install Windows Vista, by default IIS 7.0 is not enabled. This topic describes how to enable IIS and configure it so that in Visual Studio you can create local IIS ASP.NET Web sites. This enables you to use a local copy of IIS to run and debug the Web site instead of using the ASP.NET Development Server. The bold is mine, because I want to know why I can't just use the ASP.NET Development Server? I always have in the past. Oh, and I'm not running Vista, I'm running Windows 7, but I don't think that matters.
I would like to include a word document, and unused program files in a folder as part of my project, but I don't want it compiled, etc. How is the best way to do this?
I've converted an old school website project to a web application project. I've always registered all of my user controls in the web configs for easier maintainability. After converting the project type. None of my user controls registered in my web config are recognized any longer. In the designer files, it looks like it's unable to resolve the actual control and it's defaulting to some <namespace>.<ControlName> that is totally wrong. I really don't want to have to go through and put Register tags in each page where a control is used. In my web config i'm registering my control as follows:
[Code]....
I'm using Visual Studio 2010. I've seen several article around the internet that allude to an issue back in VS2005. Scott Gu commented on several. I haven't seen anything specifically referring to issue in 2010. Has anyone else encountered this type of issue. I provided a really brief overview and i would be happy to go into more detail
I have several ASP.NET web projects and their Output folder are set to "C:Builds[ProjectName]bin" (instead of the default "bin" folder). This makes "F5" Debugging not working because the ASP.NET Development Server expects the "bin" folder under the project folder.
I then changed to use Local IIS Web server (http://localhost/webproject1") and manually updated the vdir physical path to my custom output path. However the VS2010 will not load the csproj because it detects the url is already mapped to a different folder location.
I know I probably shouldn't change the Output folder. But wondering if there is an easy way to workaround this? The goal is to make "F5" debugging work with custom build Output folders.
I'm about to begin a new asp.net application using .net 4.0. Only concern I have is since the project calls for reporting, I cannot use SSRS with SQL Server 2008 b/c the tempate for Bus Intelligence Projects is missing from 4.0. I've been told that the next release of SQL Server 2011 (some time this year), will resolve this problem. Meanwhile, I'm wondering if the following approach would work:
1) Create the application in VS2010 using the SQL Server 2008 db.
2) Create the SSRS Bus Intelligence project using VS2008 and create a seperate website pointing to the same SQL Server 2008 Db?
Kind of a hack, but I guess the only problem with this is, the Bus Intelligence project will not be able to reference and leverage and DLL or code from the application.
I have had a project called Articles and the project complies fine. I have it running as a seperate site on my machine and it works like a charm under IIS7. When I start the project from VS2010 in debug mode (by pressing F5) it lands on a page that says: "Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Articles._Default'."
I i however change the path in the browser from [URL] Home it works fine again, indicating that my routing table is bust but it was working yesterday and I did not change any route, The error page also says: "Please do not delete this file. It is used to ensure that ASP.NET MVC is activated by IIS when a user makes a "/" request to the server." That idicates to me that it went to default.aspx...right?
I'm trying to publish my mvc3 project to a web host server, I right clicked my project and selected publish, there i entered the ftp information, VS2010 uploaded the files to the ftp, but when i try to surf to the remote site i get an error "Directory Listing Denied". all guides I found requierd an installation on the web host side, is there no way to just upload the site like in classic asp?
I'm working on a "Website Project" (as opposed to an ASP.NET Web Application) which we received from another company as part of an acquisition. In general it works fine, however every time I close the project ("File" -> "Close Project" or just "File" -> "Exit"), the IDE crashes. If I create a new project this doesn't happen, and it doesn't happen for any other project/solution file I have handy. The other information I have that might be useful is that this project may have stared out as a VS2008 project, and previously it was under Microsoft source control (it's under Subversion now).
I have web applications which were developed before I installed during mid week last week the SP1 from Web Platform Installer and MVC3. My applications currently still use MVC2. When I open Site.Master, the VS2010 would crash every time and tries to restart. The problem doesn't apply to .aspx, ascx, or other extension. Does anyone have the same problem? Here is what I have done to my computer:
1. Installed MVC3 2. Installed VS2010 SP1 and associated components using Web Platform Installer (install failed several time, but succeed this morning) 3. Modified myProject.csproj file using NotePad to change <mvcBuildViews> from false to true
I get the following error which I don't get when I build a simple WCF Data Service in an non MVC project. I added the following to my global.asax:
[Code]....
The type 'MvcWebApp.WcfDataServiceTwitter', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could not be found.
I just upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010, and now my web deployment project keeps rebuilding constantly. Even if I have a WinForms application set as the startup project and hit Ctrl+F5 to run it, the web deployment project rebuilds every time I hit Ctrl+F5. It didn't do this in VS2008. Does anyone know what's causing this?
I have tried to create an asp web site with VS 2010, using VB code behind the Default.aspx form. It works fine on my local development computer with Win 7, but it will not work when I try to access it on my web site after I post it there. If I create a similar asp file with VWD 2008, using the html style code (which I do not know how to use) and post it to the web site, it works fine.
I have been working on this project for a few months in VS2008.. now that we are getting closer to the end, one of the other programmers has been working and doing his in VS2010, so when i try to open his projects in VS2008 it just shows up as XML.. so i have to open in VS2010.. thats fine..
But if i try to open my project in 2010, it prompts to use the conversion wizard.. Should i be concerned or are there any issues with doing the conversion? Being the end of the project, i dont want to cause issues at this point.. So would like to know if converting the project file at this stage in our project a good idea? Will there be any issues using his code with mine since they were developed in 2 different versions..
In my company we have setup an architecture where all applications share the js scripts to avoid duplicate files and update hundred of files everytime we do an update to the javascripts functions.
The issue that I am having is when I create a reference to those scripts from website A to a function in website B, the intellisense doesn't work. Copy the javascript to website B is not an option. What I am asking if there is a way to make the intellisense work when i am working with projects in this architecture.
i've deployed an asp4 site to rackspace.com using the vs2010 publisher; the default page is rendering ok, but when i click on the login button i'm getting the following error and trace
[FileLoadException: Unverifiable code failed policy check. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131402)] [FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'ManagedCPPAPI.netmodule' or one of its dependencies. Unverifiable code failed policy check. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131402)][code]....

After seeing the Hanselman "You are doing it wrong" video I start to use the Web Publish feature of VS2010.
What I'm really missing is that the websites sometimes gives errors while the site is publishing because the feature does not copy the app_offline.htm file to the server.
I do not want to start using MSDeploy scripts, because I have several sites and want to keep it simple.
Maybe there is a simple tweak to tell the wizard to copy and then delete the file.
I have a program which I would like to publish to my company's intranet server so that employees are able to implement updates. I am not sure how to go about this but I have done some research on IIS and I was wondering if anyone could clue me in a little more with what I need to do. I have not yet downloaded IIS to give it a try as I'm not sure where I would go from there.
have been working this issue for the last two days and I cannot for life of me track down the problem. I am using an Update parameter statement to update records in a sql db. I have done all the debugging in VWD but I get no specific error line details. I think it is a mismatch type with the primary key field. Below is the stacktrace:
[SqlException (0x80131904): Error converting data type varchar to numeric.] PowerUsers_OfficerUpdate.btnSave2_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in C:UsersxxxxxxDocumentsVisual Studio 2010WebSitesWebSite3xxxxxxxx.aspx.vb:106 System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) +118 System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) +112 System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.System.Web.UI.IPostBackEventHandler.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) +10 System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl, String eventArgument) +13 System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(NameValueCollection postData) +36 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +5563
I've got a simple detailsview on a webpage for viewing, adding, and updating inspectors. Since it is a simple details view I'm just used the datasource select, update, delete, and insert commands. When I debug the page it populates the detailsview appropriately and allows me to page through the inspectors but when I try to update a field I'm getting the implicit conversion error in the attached doc. Below is my detail view markup. I was thinking the error is caused by the checkbox type being boolean while the SQL type for "Active" is bit but I've tried to use various conversion methods and can't seem to get them to work.
I would like to execute a stored proc that simply updates a record. At this point I would like to keep it parameter less. But in future, I will be adding parameters to the stored proc. Can I simply do it via SQLDataSource? It will save me writing few lines of code to execute stored proc in a traditional ado.net.
I am trying to update NuGet Package Manager from ver.1.0.11220.104 to version 1.1.229.160 using the VS extension manager, but the install fails on VS2010 Ultimate Version 10.0.31118.1 SP1Rel because of a signiture mismatch; see error below.
