View 8 RepliesI am designing a dashboard for my own application to serve as a control panel for the end user. I am thinking about using the Dropthings framework or DynamicDashboards which cover all of my internal widgets requirements.
But besides including widgets developed internally by me, I would like for the user to be able to include iGoogle widgets as well.
Is this possible?
What needs to be done in order to host an iGoogle widget?

View 1 RepliesWe have a company product (asp.net website) that gets compiled and distributed to our clients. I need to figure out a way to allow us to add in an ad hoc aspx webpage into the website (so it recognizes the master page, the forms authentication, assemblies, etc) without having to provide them with an un-compiled version of the website product.Is this possible. Is there a better method than having a special compiled version of the website on their server.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to make an asp.net website using Visual web dev and C# that accesses data in an SQL database. For my site, I need to be able to save and access additional user properties such as age and gender. I have been playing around with the built in .NET Login tools but I don't understand how to keep track of the additional properties (age, gender...) I could store all the users information in my own database but how do I correlate the users data in my DB to the usernames in the member database that is automatically created?

View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.Net website and I want to use a custom error page. I put the following code in my web.config
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/error.aspx">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="~/error.aspx" />
</customErrors>
The problem is when i go to a URL that does not exist is still uses the 404 error page specified in IIS Manager.Question: How can I make it use the error.aspx page I have created? Why do the settings in IIS Manager override the web.config?
i made website on c# and font used is "Myriad Web Pro", On my system it looks fine. but when i browse my website on another machine its font changed and looks different, how to sort this problem.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to build an ASP.NET site that allows each user to set their own session timeout value. Basically from the user's perspective if they set their timeout value to 30 then that means that after 30 minutes of inactivity they are required to re-authenticate. If they set their timeout value to 0 then that means that they can leave the browser open as long as they want and their session never expires - they never have to re-authenticate. This is different than "remember me" functionality. If they close their browser they will have to re-authenticate.
Currently I am using Forms Authentication in my application and I have one object that I am storing in ASP.NET session. This object is a custom User object that has a number of different pieces of information about the current user.
What code would I need to write so that after successful login, the system has the proper authentication ticket and the proper session expiration value? I keep thinking I have this working and then I notice weird time outs where the system seems to think I am authenticated but my session has expired.
Currently on my login page I am using an ASP.NET login control. i have custom code in the Login_Authenticate event to authorize the user. Then I have the following code in the Login_LoggedIn event to set the auth ticket.

I have one main project for the cms we are using for our website. I have also created usercontrols to include in the site, but I think I would like to keep these in a separate project and just reference them in the main project. Is this a best practice and how would I do this?
View 1 RepliesI have written an assembly (DLL) containing two classes, MyMembershipProvider and MyRoleProvider, which are derived from MembershipProvider and RoleProvider, respectively. I have implemented most but not all of the abstract methods; the remaining ones all throw a NotImplementedException. I have signed the assembly and added a reference to it in my web-site project, where the relevant web.config sections look like this:
[Code]....
When I fire up the site, however, I get the following error:
Configuration Error
Description:
An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
Parser Error Message:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
The error message points to the <add /> tag in the <roleManager /> section: if I take that out, however (enabled="false"), it comes back again as soon as I try to log-in to the site (this time pointing to the membership section). I have verified that is recognising the classes by changing the name in the "type" attribute (to something that doesn't exist), at which point it throws a different error. Therefore I'm presuming there's a problem with my assembly code somewhere; but how can I find out where? I have debug=true in the web.config and also compiled the assembly with Debug options, but no clues.
I get an error when trying to compile this simple website:
[Code]....
The error message is:
x is not a member of ASP.default3_aspx
The meaning of the error message is clear to me, and adding Me..Button1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "x.doMethod();") in codebehind works, but as you can imagine, that is not really what I want. How can I achieve my initial goal?
I have been asked to build an ASP.Net website that has a custom search, when the page is loaded it displays a gridview with a list of data, then when a button is pressed it takes the value from the text box and runs a stored procedure using the value, the gridview then databinds successfully displaying the new data. But the select button does not take the rows data it takes the data from the row corresponding to the data when the page is loaded, not from the search button.
The code for the search is below.

View 1 RepliesI want to build a custom document management web application that ties in with sharepoint for the actual document versioning and storage. I'm hoping for something like a sharepoint widget that I can plug into my web application that would allow me to tie in with sharepoint and download documents, make edits to them, and upload them back to sharepoint, with sharepoint handling all of the versioning and storage. Basically I'm looking for a sharepoint API. If WSS is the answer to this, are there licensing issues that I need to consider?

View 1 RepliesWhen I have a HttpHandler class in C#/ASP.NET mapped to a file extension in IIS any file with that extension fails to download/display in web browsers (it's downloaded as a 0-byte file in some browsers and nothing at all in other browsers). After removing the application mapping for the HttpHandler in IIS so it doesn't call the IHttpHandler class in C#, the web browser downloads the file successfully.
This was tested with an IHttpHandler class in C# that has an empty ProcessRequest method.
I set up a really simple custom membership provider for my website, it is on shared hosting with 123reg which operate in medium trust mode. Due to this the membership provider throws an error. how it would work on medium trust on shared hosting? The hosting doesnt allow me to set the applications trust mode either.
View 2 RepliesHope this is the correct forum for this question. I am using VWD 2010 an have a web project and get the following error upon execution:

I am trying to build a custom composite control, which allows me to add custom content to each child control. It's a similar concept to what you have with a GridView and TemplateColumn. The markup used to place the control on the page would end up being something like this:
[Code]....
I have the code below, which allows me to put that markup on the page without throwing any errors, and it renders all the correct HTML, except it doesn't render the contents of the ColumnTemplate. I have replaced the Render() code with a comment because it's quite long winded and doesn't add anything important here:
[Code]....
I have tried to follow examples on MSDN and other forums but I can't make this work. I think I'm missing the code to render the contents of the template, but I don't know how to hook that up.

View 7 RepliesI know that how to create custom control and add custom property.
I want to create property like DataSource to my custom control.
I've got an external site that's built in SharePoint 2007. the user of the site need to have an option to view the full site when accessed from a mobile device. I am thinking of just creating a button control to do this. The question is, what would be the best solution to do this?
View 1 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is rather basic, but I might have my facts mixed up. I have a details page that has a custom class as it's Model. The custom class uses 2 custom objects with yet another custom object a property of one of the 2. The details page outputs a fair amount of information, but allows the user to post a comment. When the user clicks the post button, the page gets posted to a Details action that looks something like this:
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]
public ActionResult Details(VideoDetailModel vidAndComment) { ....}
[Code]....
The only fields on the form that is posted are CommentText and VideoId. Here is what the VideoDetailModel looks like.
public class VideoDetailModel
{
public VideoDetailModel()
{
[Code]....
I suppose if I added more form fields for the properties I need, they would get posted, but I only need 1 form entry field for the CommentText. If I could get the same Model objects value that were sent to the page to post with the page, it looks like the solution is rather simple. I think using the RenderPartial in the middle of a form is problematic somehow to how the form gets written in html. I can't really put my finger on why things went bonkers, but if I do my RenderPartials before my form and then begin my form with the text entry field and the hidden VideoId, the default ModelBinder works just fine. I was beginning the form, writing the hidden VideoId, rendering several partial views, create my CommentText field, and then closed the form out. The CommentText field would get bound just fine. The hidden VideoId would not. Maybe I missed a rule somewhere about using RenderPartial.
For completeness, the partial view I was rendering took a Comment object and just wrote out it's CommentText data. Several of these objects would exist for a single Video object. All of this data was in a custom type and passed into the View (the main view) as it's Model. This partial view did not have a form and did not have any data entry fields.
