Web Config - Implementing A Custom Error Page On An .Net Website?

I have an ASP.Net website and I want to use a custom error page. I put the following code in my web.config
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/error.aspx">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="~/error.aspx" />
</customErrors>
The problem is when i go to a URL that does not exist is still uses the 404 error page specified in IIS Manager.Question: How can I make it use the error.aspx page I have created? Why do the settings in IIS Manager override the web.config?

If I create a custom error page in my web.config file, how do I retrieve error details in the error page?
So with ...

I am referring to errors generated by my asp.net. For example I created a sample page and wrote 'throw new Exception("some error")' as a test. How can I retrieve an instance of the exception or exception details in my "/error/error.aspx" page? Currently in my error page if I query Server.GetLastError() the return value is null.

I have a site with about 4 pages or so. I was asked to implement a very simple security (check if user in database, if not kick out) using active directory and validating against a table of users. I was simply thinking of createing a master page and making all pages inherit that master page. I would then authenticate the users from the master page.

I'm building an n-tier application, with the web client and the class library separate. I'm also using the factory pattern of development, using interfaces to act as containers for different objects they are associated with. The problem I'm expreriencing is that I declared a public interface class in the class library and I can create an instance of it in in my aspx pages but whenever I declare it in my custom control code-side, i get an error, like so:
Error 20 The type or namespace name 'IContentMaker' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
notge that I have inherited the class library namespace using the 'using' keyword just in case you are wondering. My code is like so:

I got this error in a project I did a while back. I think this was a web site project that i converted to a web app project. This was a while ago. This is an app I'm trying to run on my local machine. I'm not using IIS.
Does anyone know what this means?

It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

I want to add mime type in web.config to make downloading files for users.but after adding mime tag, website starts showing internal error 500 and removing this, it runs fine but when user click on files to download then it show error that file not found. So I need to add proper mimetype for my uploaded files. So pls tell me the proper way to add it to web.config file.

I probably forgot to implement something. Actually I just added the property PostBackUrl. Probably I should also implement an interface of call something.

I am looking at implementing a custom MappingSource as side project. It needs to be something along the lines of AttributeMappingSource and XmlMappingSource, except that it won't be using attributes or xml. This has been a problem so far. All the documentation I've seen uses these two, and only these two. I know how to define the new classes and implement the abstract methods, but there are a few problem. Let's take a look at the mapping source first:

You'll see that if we've got an innermost Exception of type AccessDeniedException we throw a new HTTPExcpetion with a status code of 403 AKA 'forbidden'
Here's the relevant web.config entry:

So what we're expecting is a redirect to the AccessDenied.aspx page. What we get is a redirect to the ServerError.aspx page.

Im implementing custrom delete by adding to my ASPxGridView GridViewColumnCustomButton.
Then on my GridView I handle ClientSideEvent

now on the server side I user linq to delete specified row and then submit changes to my DataContext and then DataBind() on my grid.
Problem is that sometimes standard ASPxGridView loading panel is shown for about 1 second ant then my row dissapears so it behaves properly but sometimes loading panel stops mooving. and I need to move mouse over my grid or click button so that my Grid is updated(row dissapears).

I am implementing an multilingual web site using ASP.Net. The languages are English,French and Arabic. Please note that Arabic's direction is RTL. What is the best way to implement the multilingual support. I am planning to use the .Net localization feature but the website texts are stored in DB. For the controls ( form controls) , I can used resx file. Do I need to build two different pages ( one for LTR and another for RTL )? Or can I have one ASPx file for all the three languages?
I would like to hear some best practices in implementing these kind of web applications.

I'm having a wicked time trying to redirect the different error scenarios to a custom error page. Basically, I have put some code in Application_Error in global.asax, and done the necessary web.config settings to use Custom Errors.
In global.asax on Application_Error, I stored the Server.GetLastError in Session. The reason I have to store it in Session is because (as far as I know) you lose the exception when using "ResponseRedirect". And the reason I have to use ResponseRedirect is because I am using an UpdatePanel with AJAX calls, and any exception during the AJAX call shows up as a JavaScript error, and doesn't get handled using the custom error page (see this post).

In my asp.net application, users are created by the administrators & those users need to log-in into the system using their own email/password or openid. So what is the best option to implement in this scenario?
I mean, as users can't register them self,do administrator required to associate each openid with the users & what kind of table structure do I need?
And do I also need the log-in interface like that of [URL] showing multiple types of authentication(default & openid from various providers)?

I am trying to handle the unhandled exceptions in my project.I tried with this following code in my web.config filebut it is not at all redirecting to an error page which i have created instead of that it is throwing an exception in my code itselef. How to print the error description over therein my custom error page.

what is the correct way to pass data through the AJAX calls and have it be model-binded into an object inside my Controller Action?
So far, I've read in some places that jQuery sends data in key-value pairs, so I don't have to do anything extra, while in other places, I've read that I have to first use a JSON deserializer and then bind the result. I've currently implemented my Controller Actions as ones that accept HTTP POST.

I am using the ASP.NET Web Site Small Business Starter Kit as a starting point for a simple web app. I wanted to convert it to a web project from a web site for few reasons (better interaction with VisualSVN, etc..).
I converted pretty much evertyhing over without too much trouble. Only one page is having an issue - at first the one issue I had on this same Provider: I was getting an error message about the type for the class that inherits ConfigurationSection (ProviderSettingsValidation) could not be found. I did some googling and ofund I had to change the web.config, at the type section for the provider to use the full assembly name/type name instead of just the typename. But after doing this, I get a new error and find myself stuck and found nothing on google... here is unhandled exception message:

I have uploaded all my pages in httpdocs, and created a data bese ... I have also chaned the connection string acordingly but still i am geting following error on opening the page....:-
