Nov 7, 2010I've always been a bit unsure how to check for the existance of properly referenced table data.
In my situation I have various tables related to each other in many-to-one relationships where the "1" side can be deleted without the reference fields on the "many" side being updated (nulled).
I have FK relationships set up in my MS SQL server database but have turned off the FK constraint enforcement (and cascading update/delete) so that I can delete records from the "1" side but leave the keys for those deleted records in the records on the "many" side. This is something I really need to do for my web app design.

I want to capture that situation and insert a verbiage such as "No data" or something like that. I've tried to test the datareader for various conditions such as Null, String.Empty, or plain " " but nothing worked. Is there a way to make this happen? Feb 28, 2011I'm trying to error handle a registration aspx/c# page on my application and want to run a check whether the email address that a user has tried to register already exists as the email address is used as a primary key in my database.
I have tried IF NOT EXISTS/IF EXISTS but these dont give the desired effect so was wondering if there was another way around it?

Dec 16, 2010I have a .net 3.5 application in c# with sql server 2008 at back end. The application is about assigning jobs to supervisors and then these supervisors have to write remarks about the job progress from time to time. There are two tables ; a JobAssign table with JobOrderNo and Supervisor columns, and a JobUpdate table with jobOrderNo,Date And Remarks(nvarchar) column.
When a supervisor is assinged a job he is sent an email but sometimes the supervisors do not write remarks about a job for some time. i want a stored procedure through which if the remarks of a job are not written for say 5 days an email is sent to the supervisor to do so? in my job update table there are multiple entries for a job so the stored procedure will have to check the Top Remarks Date for each jobOrderNo. then compare it to today date if the difference is difference is 5 days then send email. i have read posts on sending email through job scheduler but i'm new to stored procedure so have no idea how to write such.

In Edit case my email box is populated with data from database.
When i click save button in both cases my customservervalidation method invokes and checks the given value. it works fine for new/add case but in edit case it checks with itself also and says duplicate email... pointing own record...
