VS 2008 - Sorting Date Column In DataView

Jul 12, 2011

I've got a datagrid which i wanted to sort, since i dnt have much knowledge of .Net, so what i did was to save that datagrid in a DataTable, then again save the same DataTable in a DataView, then apply sorting on that DataView. this is the code, and its working fine.

Code:
protected void dgEOBSearchResults_SortCommand(object source, DataGridSortCommandEventArgs e)
{
DataTable dtEOBDocumentListTable = (DataTable)Session["sEOBDataTable"];
if (ViewState["sortExpression"] == null)

[code]...

but the issue comes when the i try to sort the Date Column, the dates are in MM/DD/YYYY format, so if i try to sort the date column, the dates are sorted on month basis, rather than year basis. now i cant change the date format, is there any way to sort dates in DataView?

Forms Data Controls :: Sorting Date Column In Gridview?

Mar 19, 2010

In gridview columns im displaying date and time, as below.

23/02/2010 11:19:52

Im also doing sorting on these columns.

But the issue is during sorting its only sorting on "day (dd)"....

for example....these 3 values are from column, Date.

23/02/2010 11:19:52

18/02/2010 10:25:10

17/03/2010 09:30:51

when I click for "Ascending" sort....it should get "17/03/2010 09:30:51" on the top (because of month 03) others have 02, but it doesnt, it gets in the above order, its just sort on day (dd).Below is my code for boundfield....

<asp:BoundField
DataField="Date"
HeaderText="Date" [code]...

Forms Data Controls :: Datagrid Column Sorting With Two Columns ( File Name, And Date Created )?

Jan 3, 2011

I have a datagrid with two columns ( File Name, and Date Created ). I want them to be sorted when clicked (ASC or DESC). I went into the design view and added the allow sorting feature and added the column names, so they are clickable in the header of the data grid. I also already added the onsortcommand as well.

My datagrid is named dgFileList and the onsortcommand method is named dgFileList_SortCommand.

The procedure that is already loading on page load is a DataSet. (where I think my problem is)I dont have anything in the back end beside the dgFileList_Sortcommand method. From what I have read, it seems like I can't use a DataSet to be sorted...I'm using visual studios 2005, C#, not VB.

DataSource Controls :: Format A Date Field In DataView.RowFilter To Consider Date Only - Not Time

Jan 27, 2010

I am filtering dataview using my Date Column but the result is not proper because the Field value also stores time, so I want to convert this Date Field to only Date during Filter. How can I achieve this? Here is my code. And the actual value I am getting in the Dataset Field "CreationDate" is a DateTime field which is like

2010-01-21 14:35:25.203
2010-01-22 12:55:18.033
2010-01-26 12:10:06.990

But I only want to neglet time value and want to compare Date only.

string BenchMarkName = string.Empty;
foreach (object o in str.Split(';'))

Forms Data Controls :: Paging On A Different Column Than The Sorting Column

Sep 26, 2010

Situation: SQL database, Linq to SQL class a ASP.NET page with a LinqDataSource and a gridview. The table has a ID field, a date field and a Serialnr field. In my Grid I like to Page on the datefield but to sort on the serialnr field ( or a selectable other field). Is that possible? Standard the paging is always done on the sort field and when you select a different sort field the page jumps back to the first page., and paging is then done over that sorted column.

Column In DataView Not Rendering When Databound To DataGrid (or RadGrid)?

Sep 7, 2010

Using ASP.NET Web Forms.I am databinding a DataView to a DataGrid with AutoGenerateColumns set to trueThe final column of the DataView is not rendering.Using the debugger I can see that the column definitely exists in the data grid's datasource. The column is of type decimal and some of the rows in the column have data in them.The column has a column name.The other columns are rendering fine.What's going on?Some more infoFunnily enough, I can set AutoGenerateColumns to false, then just add the columns manually:

datagrid.Columns.Clear();
foreach(DataColumn column in dataView.Table.Columns)
{
datagrid.Columns.Add(new BoundColumn {
HeaderText = column.ColumnName });
}
datagrid.DataSource = dataView;

This works fine. Why can't .NET do this with AutoGenerateColumns?

Sort Datatable / Dataview / Gridview Of Files Based On File Modified Date?

Aug 2, 2010

I have a page which lists all the files in a particular folder (all PDFs), using a data-table and gridview.

I'm currently sorting this table by the filename (by using a dataview), which isn't that helpful, and I want the gridview of files sorted by the file created or file modified date (as recorded in Windows).

If that's not possible, a second option would be to extract the date from the file name string (no problem doing that), and sort the dataview/datatable or gridview based on that. Example Filename: DailySalesReport-1-15-2010. My only hangup with this is how do I sort on date, when it's a string value? Convert to date? How would I sort the whole dataset based on this converted value?

Forms Data Controls :: Converting Dataview Column Info Into Integer?

Jan 15, 2010

I have the following code reading in my xml file and sorting it by ID:

Dim ds As New DataSet
ds.ReadXml(Server.MapPath("/posts.xml"))
Dim dv As New DataView(ds.Tables(0))
dv.Sort = "id desc"

The only problem is that it isn't sorting it numerically (it's sorting it alphabetically 1, 10, 11, 2, 24, 3, 4...). It appears as though I have to convert that column into integers, but I haven't been able to figure out an efficient way to do that.

im ds As New DataSet
ds.ReadXml(Server.MapPath("/App_Data/posts.xml"))
'ds.Tables(0).Columns(0).DataType = TypeOf(Decimal)
Dim dv As New DataView(ds.Tables(0))
'dv.Sort = "date"

I get "invalid parameter [0-9] with Operator Like" error message. What is the correct syntax to achieve my goal?

VS 2008 Calculate Age Based On Date Of Birth And Another Given Date

Jul 11, 2013

if I google it I get things like "you could try..." or "that doesn't work if...", etc. and I want some tried and true way. So, have you written any age-calculation routines and found they actually work when put to the test (that would be, when they go live ) or simply found one on the Internet?

I tried googling "vbforums .net calculate age" and I got some VB6 code. I am thinking there might be something more sophisticated in .NET.

I tried searching "calculate age" in the advanced search here, and got hits like "calculate tax" and "calculate discount" so it's not recognizing my combined keyword string.

ADO.NET :: Full Text Search Sorting By Rank And Date?

Nov 23, 2010

I am creating a web app to search thousands of records for past 60 days. I am using SQL stored proc to do the full text search and return the results order by RANK and insert datetime.

I am using custom paging in stored proc to receive 10 results at a time. Each time a page of 10 record is returned it comes up with few records that were added recently and others which were added 40,50 or 60 days ago. This happens because full text search find those results more relevant than the recently added ones.

What would be the best way to sort the results by rank as well as by date time. I am using SQL Server 2008.

VS 2008 Efficient Listview Sorting?

Jan 29, 2011

I have a requirement where 15 listviews have to be loaded on a web page.But only one shown at a time. Number of columns will be only 2 for each and Number of rows for every listview is very limited.The thing I am not able to decide is the sorting method.1. If I am using the datasource control, it automatically sorts my listview.2. If I am programmatically populating listview , I will have to sort my datatable and rebind to the listview.To use the second method I have to store the datatables in sessions.So taking that into consideration, will datasource control be more efficient ?
