VS 2010 / Changing Label Text From Page Load Does Not Work

Nov 22, 2013

I have a label on my page, and in Page_Load I have

Code:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Label1.Text = "dog"
End Sub

This works when I run it locally, but not when I upload it to my host. The label does not change. what is going on?

Forms Data Controls :: Changing A GridView's ItemTemplate Label Text Dynamically

May 7, 2010

I'm trying to change the text of a GridView label in an ItemTemplate and I am having some issues. I searched all over and can't find a solution. This is what I am trying to do...

I have a GridView that has a comment field. Normally when the page is rendered the comment field is truncated using a truncate class that limits field length. The full contents can be displayed in a tooltip when the comment field is hovered over. That part works fine.

I also have an export to Excel class that will take the Gridview and export it to Excel and that part works fine as well...

Now the issue... Because of the truncated field, when I do an export it will export exactly what is in that field, the truncated version of a comment. When the export button is clicked I need to change the .text value of the label that is in the GridView ItemTemplate

From this truncated version...

[Code]....

And then back again after the export routine is complete.

I have accessed the contents of a label before using FindControl but never set a value, is this possible? Also, I have captured what is in the comment field on RowDataBound but by that time, it is already truncated.

VS 2010 - Unable To Update Label Text

Jul 25, 2014

I'm having problems getting my label to update, it is a asp:label known as LabelFMI - what I am doing is when the user changes the value of certain things update it by either taking away or adding the difference. I've managed to get this to work by having to refresh the page and moving it to out of the function I made for it and into default.aspx's Page_load sub.. However I was hoping to not have to refresh to have it update? is there anyway to achieve this?

Code:
Private Sub UpdateLabels(ByVal start As Date, ByVal [end] As Date, ByVal value As Double)
'Import the data for the table
Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [event] WHERE NOT (([eventend] <= @start) OR ([eventstart] >= @end))", ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("daypilot").ConnectionString)
da.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("start", start)

Forms Data Controls :: Changing Webpage Label Text Based On Datasource Field In A Repeater Control?

Jan 27, 2011

I have a web page that has a repeater bound to a data source. I beed to change a label inside the repeater based on the data that is in each repeater item. For instance, for the first item it might be one thing, and for the next item the label may be something else. I am currently doing some processing in the prerender event, but I don't know if I can or how to access the data source fields there. Where and how do I get access to the data in each item so I can change the label text?

VS 2010 Label Text Wrapping / Expanding Header

Dec 17, 2010

I have a couple of labels in the header of my master page. One of these displays the game-server that the user is currently connected to (the website controls the gameserver). The name of the gameservers can be longer than the room I gave them in the header. When this happens, the text wraps around (this is good!), and any elements underneath this label shift down (this is wrong!). Here is how it looks when not connected, so that the labels that show the name and IP of the server are hidden: After connecting, the labels are shown but the text is slightly too large and wraps around, causing the two links underneath to shift. The header becomes larger than it should be and a blank strip results (where the header background image stops):

The relevant ASPX code:

[Code]....

The relevant CSS is this (it's a bit of a mess, .):

[Code]....

When the server name is longer than the 'server' div (basically the black box) I want it to wrap around (otherwise most servers wouldn't fit). But if the server name is REALLY long it might wrap around 3 of 4 times in which case there would be no room for the links underneath... Can i possibly limit the amount of wrapping so that it only wraps once? When it is longer still it should just cut off (or display some ellipsis " ..." if that's possible), or even just spill into the rest of the header (rather not..)

In each case, when the label does wrap, how do I stop the other elements underneath from being pushed down? The two links should remain on the same spot really, they shouldn't move down when the label turns out larger. I hope I'm making myself clear. I'm really a CSS noob, the CSS I have now is mostly hacked together from various sources and I just kept trying until I got something that I liked...

VS 2010 - Adding Linkbuttons To A Page Dynamically On Page Load

Jun 1, 2012

Ok, so I'm adding linkbuttons to a page dynamically on page_load.I had it to where the link buttons were redirecting to a page with a query string attached. I was attempting to use the AjaxToolKit's AjaxFileUploader and ran into issues with existing query strings.

So what I'm trying to do now is handle the click event of the linkbutton server side, set 2 session variables and then redirect the page to the same page, but with out appending a querystring so the ajaxfileuploader will work correctly.Here is my linkbutton code:

vb Code:
Dim Lin As New LinkButton
Lin.Text = dr("DeptDesc").ToString
Lin.CssClass = "deptlink"
Lin.ToolTip = CDate(dr("MeetingDate").ToString).ToFileTime.ToString
'Lin.OnClientClick

[code]....

I know I have Lin.PostBackURL and Lin.setAttribute(...). It didn't work with just setAttribute and I saw a post online about someone setting the PostBackURL and it working...

VS 2010 - Load Page Outside IFrame

Jun 28, 2011

I have the following setup:

-Default.aspx
-Page1.aspx
-Page2.aspx

Default.aspx contains an iFrame, called "frame1"
Upon the loading of Default.aspx, Page1.aspx gets loaded into the iFrame.

Page1 contains a button, (lets just say Button1).

If I click Button1 (so from the page loaded in the iFrame), I want Page2.aspx to be loaded in the place of Default.aspx.

So I would need to get the same effect as Response.Redirect("Page2.aspx")

But if I do this Page2 will be loaded inside the iFrame, I need it to load outside the iFrame (so Default.aspx gets replaced by Page2.aspx)...

Page Load Event - Get UserId From Db And Put Into Hidden Label Field?

Jul 30, 2010

I am working on Scott Mitchell's ASP.Net in 24 hours book. I am running into what looks like a simple problem that is getting the best of me.

When a page loads, the UserId of the currently logged in user will be retrieved in the page Load event and placed into the Text value of a Label. But, when the page opens when I am running the app, I am getting an error in the lower left corner of the browser. When I open up the error message, I see this:

Webpage error details

Message: 'UserIDValue' is undefined

Line: 92

Char: 1

Code: 0

URI: http://localhost:51035/PhotoAlbum24hrs/PhotoAdmin/ManageCategories.aspx

Here is the web page's Load event (VB) code:

[Code]....

Here is line 92 and the surrounding lines from the page source when I run the app:

[Code]....

This matches what is in Scott's book. (Or else I have been looking at it too long and have missed something.)

If I make the UserId Label visible, I can see the logged in user's ID displayed on the page. So, what is going on here? Why am I getting this error?

Web Forms :: Setting Focus On Page Load Doesn't Work?

May 6, 2010

I have been browing forums & googling for a couple of hours this morning, trying to find an answer to what (to me) should be a very simple issue. (I am a Delphi programmer moving somewhat reluctantly to Visual Studio C# , for web apps) I have created the simplest ASP.NET website in Visual Studio, containing a Textbox and a Button. When the website loads, I want Textbox1 to have focus. Simply doing

[Code]....

and this too does not work. However, if I press the Enter key when the webpage is displayed, then focus does move to TextBox1 (and pressing Enter again will fire any code attached to Button1). Surely it cannot be this hard to perform something so simple?

C# - Can Quickly Run Entire Page's Text Through A Function On Page Load

May 14, 2010

i have setup a profanity filter with bad words in a XML file and have the following function to run on my page to replace the words:

BadWordFilter.Instance.GetCleanString(TextBox1.Text);

i'm about to go through my entire site now wrapping that function around every little text variable one by one and it's going to be a huge pain in the butt

i'm hoping there's a way that i could just set my masterpage to automatically run all text through this thing on any page_load, so that the effect would be site-wide instantly. is this possible?

description looks like what I want to do will not be applicable.Is it possible to populate the textbox with a list of strings in page load? so that if I type in a textbox it will give me a complete list of strings already.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview - Dynamic Label - VB.NET - Change The Text Of The Label If Certain Criteria Is Reached?

Mar 15, 2010

I have Template fields configured for Gridview. The gridview is using an objectdatabsource to bind itself. I have the gridview configured to use Templatefields which then contain tables to display the information. This works fine.

My question is, is it possible to change the text of the label if certain criteria is reached. If "NumberOfDwellings" is 1 then change the label to read, "1 Dwelling". Where-as if NumberOfDwellings has more than one then it's "3 Dwellings".

<asp:Label ID="lbl_NumberOfDwellings" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("NumberOfDwellings") & " Dwelling(s)" %> '></asp:Label>
