VS 2010 - Entity Framework Not Working As Expected

Sep 24, 2012

On my underlying DB I have 3 tables. 1 of those tables comprises of just the primary keys of the other 2 tables. When I built the Model, it recognised this and so didn't actually generate an entity for this table, but instead made a many to many relationship between the other 2 tables.Now when I save changes against the context. (new records) under the hood the table with just primary keys are not populated. How do I get this table populated?

Entity Framework NoTracking Not Working?

Oct 21, 2010

I'm trying to run a no tracking query on my entities so that I can update them outside of the context. However, when the no tracking is not working and I get an exception stating

"The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection."

This exception is thrown by a property which in terms of the database model is a foreign key to a separate table, do I need to somehow set notracking for this separate entity as well?

My code is:

List<EmailQueue> result = null;
using (Entities context = new Entities())
{
var emailQueueQuery = context.EmailQueues;
emailQueueQuery.MergeOption = System.Data.Objects.MergeOption.NoTracking;
result = emailQueueQuery.Execute(System.Data.Objects.MergeOption.NoTracking).ToList<EmailQueue>();
}
return result;

Firebird Data Provider And Entity Framework In Visual Studio 2010?

Feb 23, 2011

I'm trying to use the Entity Framework with a Firebird database in Visual Studio 2010

Useful info:

Windows 7 64-bit
Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate
Firebird 2.5.0
Firebird .Net Data Provider 2.6
DDEX 2.0.5

I've done:

Installed Firebird server (and it works and I can connect to a database) Downloaded DDEX (I've run the registry files) used the gacutil on the FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll and checked that it indeed was installed and it was Modyfied the machine.config for both 2.0 and 4.0 in 32-bit and 64 bit folders to include the provider in the element When I try to add a connection in the server explorer I choose "Firebird Data Source" and the Firebird data provider and press continue. I the "Add Connection" dialog window I fill in the info "data source, database, user, password.." and press ok and then I get the following error:

Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider Also when I try to add a new Entity Data Model I cannot see the Firebird option.. I can only see SQL options. I really need help on this one as I've spent many hours on this and I cannot get it to work.. I've also read other related questions on SO,

Trying To Get The Entity Framework Working In Medium Trust

Mar 8, 2010

I'm trying to get the entity framework working in medium trust. I've tried splitting the files and using a separate assembly but I seem to have one problem after another.I moved the EDMX to a separate assembly, which causes a single .dll to be outpit to the sites /Bin directory. I'm referencing this as below from web.config.

<add name="ApplicationDB" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Application.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> [code]...

Whenever I try to access one of the entity classes, I get an ArgumentException: 'An item with the same key has already been added.' It's critical this works with medium trust, but I seem to be running out of options.

MVC :: Entity Framework Class - DisplayFormat Not Working

I have a simple entity framework class called "NewsItem" which has 3 properties: Id, PostDate and DescriptionText. To format the postdate property I created a partial class as the following:

[Code]....

This seems to be the way Microsoft has outlined doing it in this link: [URL] It seems as thought he partial class isn't being "picked up" in relation to my entity object as none of the formatting I've tried has done anything. Any ideas on what I've done wrong or might have missed?

ADO.NET :: VS 2010 - No Entity Framework Or LINQ Support For SQL Server 2000 SQLOLEDB Connection?

Sep 1, 2010

I'm working with Visual Studio 2010 and for Data Connections am connecting to a SQL Server 2000 production database. When I try to drag a table to a .dbml file, the Object Relational Designer says, "The selected object(s) use an unsupported data provider." If I try to create an .edmx file via Generate from database, then the alert is, "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later."

So VS 2010 has no support for the Data Entity Framework or LINQ when connecting to a SQL Server 2000 database? If that is the case, what is the best data access strategy for this scenario?

Exporting Entity Framework 4 Data Model To Entity Framework 3.5?

Oct 25, 2010

Is there a way to export a EF 4.0 Data Model to EF 3.5?

I looked around and found that we are not able to access EF 4.0 from a ASP.Net 3.5 project here: [URL]

Our project is the 1st to go to .Net 4.0 using Entity Framework and we (the team) were wondering if there was a way for the other projects that "might" need to access our data that are still using the .Net 3.5 framework.

I'm using ASP.NET with VB.NET. Where in my code do I put the hook to say, "update the history entity" and what should that hook look like?

ADO.NET :: Entity Framework - Entity Stored Procedure Mapping - Can't Update

Feb 10, 2011

I am mapping a stored procedure to an entity by right clicking on the entity (in the .edmx) and selecting "Stored Procedure Mapping." This brings you to a Mapping Details - "Name of Entity" Window that allows you to select the insert, update, and delete stored procedures associated with the Entity. It also maps the stored procedure parameter to the Entity "Property" (Column).

I'm gettin an error "error 2042: Parameter Mapping specified is not valid." The cause of the error is fairly obvious, in the Insert stored procedure that has been selected, a 'CHAR' parameter is being mapped to an Int32 Entity Property. I altered the stored procedure parameter to match the entity, I deleted the stored procedure, readded, and reslected it as the Insert function. I also cleaned, validated, updated model from database. No matter what I do, the parameter list in the mapping details doesn't reflect the change to the stored procedure. It's stuck on a char --> int32 mapping, even though it has been changed, like it's buried deep in meta data some where.

ADO.NET :: Entity Framework Copy Entity And Change PK And Save Old And New

Mar 31, 2011

I have a stupid problem with the Entity Framework. I get the following Exception:

[Code]....

I have an entity with a 4 fields representing the primary key. I copy it via serialization (works fine). I set the old entity to not valid (Datefield set to a date in the past, this field is part of the PK) and set the copied entity to DateTime.Now.Date. When I call context.AddObject I get the Exception above. I tried copying the entity via reflection but the entity has 3-4 references. And when copied, I get another Exception before even Adding the entity to the context. I also tried setting newObj.EntityKey = null and reset all the fields neccessary for the PK. I just want a whole copy of an entity with a different primary key (and some other fields changed too) and Create it in the database.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether there is a way to derive this new key for my entity, e, from the ObjectContext, m? The reason for this is that the way my actual code is structured, my entity object is already out of scope at the point where I call the SaveChanges() method.

I am working on a website in VS 2010 Web Forms using the 4.0 framework. I am running Vista on my development machine. When I run my website through the built-in Visual Studio web server, I am required to write my url routes using an aspx extension (or any extension I choose for that matter). When I deploy the site to a test server running IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003, my routes work correctly without the extensions. I am wondering why it would not work correctly locally and if there is anything I can do to fix it to work without the extensions.

VS 2010 - Can't Get Linq Query To Return Expected Results

Feb 13, 2014

I have a array list and am using like a database trying to search for ChildID and ParentID based on certain criteria.

My example below has the following keywords to search for:

Yellow, Mustard, Honey, Orange, Flame, Talisman

I also have a category volume value which I grab the first 2 characters to determine another filter.

My code isn't returning all matches with using 'Contains'. Right now it finds the 'Orange, Flame, Talisman'/AV record and returns 50, 28. My keywords also has 'Yellow, Mustard, Honey'/AV which should return 55 and 28 as well.

HTML Code:

(VB) Extension Method Not Working As Expected?

Sep 5, 2010

I have the following Extension Method

Imports System.Runtime.CompilerServices
Namespace Extensions
Public Module IntegerExtensions
<Extension()>
Public Function ToCommaDeliminatedNumber(ByVal int As Integer) As String
Dim _input As String = int.ToString
Select Case int
Case Is > 99999 : Return _input.Remove(_input.Length - 3) & "k"
Case Is > 9999 : Return Math.Round(Double.Parse(int / 1000), 1).ToString & "k"
Case Is > 999 : Return String.Format("{0:N0}", int)
Case Else : Return _input
End Select
End Function
End Module
End Namespace

And in one of my classes I'm using user.Reputation.ToCommaDeliminatedNumber I am importing the Extensions Namespace into the Class, but the error I'm getting is...'ToCommaDeliminatedNumber' is not a member of 'Integer?'. I do have other Extension Methods for Strings and Dates that work exactly as expected... I'm just at a loss on this one.
