I've encountered a problem while installing Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7, I've tried to modify the privileges of the destination folders to no avail, I've also tried to delete everything related to it with a removal tool. The problem is that the installation is always unsuccessful at the same point, providing me a Blue Screen of Death (twice) and the following error message (infinite amount of occasions):
[Code]....
Does anybody know the cause of the error? Is there an easier and less time consuming solution than reinstalling the whole system?
I already have VS 2010 in Windows 7. If I install virtual PC to run XP, do I need to install VS 2010 again?
View 3 RepliesMy previous development PC was running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. My new PC has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. My Solution contains 3 projects. The Solution has been converted from VWD 2008 to 2010 fine. There are no errors when I build either of the projects. One of them is not working though. When I start debugging, my default browser does not open (problem 1). When I browse the the website manually, pages of that specific project
View 6 RepliesI am working on Windows XP SP3 with VS 2008 Team System SP1. I installed VS 2010 Professional Beta 2. Although the installation reported a success, it also reported a failure of installation of Silverlight. I created a console applicaiton test project in 2010 and just tried to write Console.Writeline. But when I try to type "Console." it did not show me the intellisense. When I press "Ctrl+SpaceBar" it displays me the options correctly. Is there an issue with the installation or i have to change some options to enable intellisense.

View 2 RepliesI installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional using custom settings and decided not to install SQLEXPRESS. The reason being is that I already have an instance of SQL Server 2005 Developer. View 2 RepliesI have just installed VS 2010 Professional. After I create a c# web project with default target 4.0, I don't see most items in ajax toolbox. When I try to choose items, CalendarExtender along with other items are not in the list to choose from.Shouldn't those items like CalenderExtender be available by default? Suppose I could manually download the ajax toolkit but is that the right way to fix it?

I downloaded the Beta Version for .Net 4 and Visual Web Developer 2010. Now I want to delete them and get the New versions. It will not delete. Visual Web Developer will not install without the .Net 4 Framework.

I'm new to ASP and was hoping to get some hands-on experience of web development, but have been having trouble getting started.
I followed the instructions in the [URL] setup video, and downloaded and ran the plaform installer. I noticed that the "Web Platform" section of the installer was didn't have the "Web Server" section at the top, as shown on the instruction video [URL] but it otherwise seemed to install ok.
When I tried to follow the tutorial videos on [URL] using MS Visual Web Developer 2010, I am unable to debug the application. The web page it loads just says: "The webpage "localhost:xxxxx" cannot be found" (where xxxxx is the five digit random port number).
I've tried uninstalling Visual Web Developer, and the various Microsoft .NET and SQL Server using the Vista uninstall functionality of the control panel (as bet as I could -I'm not sure if there was something I missed), and then re-installing, but I still get the same problem.
I've tried to find a solution on some developer forums, and I noticed there are posts relating to webdev.webserver.exe relating to the error message I've been getting. However I haven't been able to find any info on this for VS 2010.
I've checked, and I don't have webdev.webserver.exe in C:Program FilesCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedDevServer or in C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkV2.0.50727, although I do have WebDev.WebServer20 and WebDev.WebServer40. inC:Program FilesCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedDevServer 10 (I'm not sure if one of these is the equivalent files for VS2010.)
I've also made Internet Explorer my default web browser, since some of the forum posts mention this. My firewall is on, but I don't get any error messages relating to the firewall when I run the app. However, I wasn't sure whether there was a particular program I should add to my "allowed" list before running.
I ran the diagnostic tool: [URL] and I get the following output:
THE FOLLOWING SCRIPT will check to make sure that .NET Framework 3.5 is installed properly and will tell you what is not configured appropriately WINDOWS VERSION: 6.0.6002 POTENTIAL ERROR: REGISTRYDUMP: reg query "HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftNET Framework SetupNDPv2.0.50727" /v "SP"

I presume there's been some problem with installation and setup. However, I'm not sure what exactly I need to re-install (if anything) to fix it.
We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however. At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum
View 1 RepliesI just installed VS2010 and opened the root machine.config and web.config files for review and I found some errors. In machine.config, the following line has errors in both entries for <Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior>. When I hover the cursor over them I get a tooltip text which displays: "The element 'endpointBehaviors' has invalid child element 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'. The same problem happens for the second appereance in tag <serviceBehaviors>.

In web.config, there is a tag called <protocols> that has an error with a tooltip text that says "The element 'system.web' has invalid child element 'protocols'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'.
I am looking at developing using Visual Studio 2010/2008 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7. Should I be able to do this on Windows 7 Professional, or do you need Windows 7 Ultimate?

I loaded just the aspx file into Visual Studio. it is just the file. It is used as a template on a CMS system (don't ask). The point is that I know that the paths work. So why does it fail in Visual Studio when I try to run it?
I have some asp.net code with a visual basic back end code file. It loads all the associated files located on the server that the aspx file mentions. But when I load the aspx file in Visual studio it says that a mentioned master page file cannot be loaded.
When I start a new ASP.NET project in Visual Studio 2010, I can either create a new ASP.NET Web Site or an ASP.NET Web Application. What's the difference between these two project types? Why would I choose one over the other?
note: this question is an exact duplicate of this one, but I'm asking specifically about Visual Studio 2010 (there are no answers targeted at VS 2010 in the original question). So are the answers of the other question still valid or are there any changes with VS2010 which results in different answers?
I am currently using Visual Web Developer and have a website with 2 pages which are "Tables.aspx" and Variables.aspx". I was wondering if their is a way to make a specific cell in a gridview clickable/as a hyperlink so that it would take the user to another page and display the required information in another gridview based on what Table Name from the gridview has been clicked on?
The gridview on the "Tables.aspx" page has 5 fields and they are Table ID, Table Name, Table Description, Source and Record Count. The field that I want to make as a hyperlink is the Table Name field and when clicked upon I would like all the relevant information (Table Name, Variable Name, Variable Description) for this field to appear in a gridview in the "Variables.aspx" page. The database table names that would be required are "variables" and "tables". In order to do this would I have to create/run some sort of SELECT command in behind the source tab for the gridview?
NB table name comes from tables database table and variable name and variable description comes from the variables database table.
How to make the gridview header to be fixed on overflow. I used this cssclass for Header Style but not working properly with all browsers.
Code:
position: relative; top: 0;
How do I make the entire grid read only programatically?
View 7 RepliesIs there a way to make a new project file using Visual Studio express 2010 using the files downloaded off a server from an asp.net web site? If so what are the steps? It would be C#.
