VS 2010 - How To View Output Of ASPX Pages On Website
Sep 25, 2011
I'm using a hosting service and I tried putting the default pages (that you get when you make a new website in web developer) onto the hosting service. But they only show up "normally" when I change the extension to html. if it's .aspx it just shows the code.
Question is how can I view the aspx file in the browser from the website normally without using "View in Browser" in that popup menu in Visual Studio Web Developer? And side note I can't use IIS (don't know if that's important but other places talked about it)

I'm used to working with VS 2008 and toggling bookmarks in aspx pages was very useful, however in VS 2010 I'm unable to toggle bookmarks using the CTRL + K + K or the actual "Toggle bookmark" button from the bookmarks tool. Is there an option to enable this on the ASPX page, it works everywhere else though.

In my masterpage, I have a menu that hosts an anchor. That anchor points to a another page and looks like this:
ASP.NET Code:
<a href="../resources/techs/masterlist.aspx">BOMs & Service Manuals</a>
I used the designer to input the href location. This page and the "masterlist" page are using the same masterpage.
When I run default.aspx and click that link, it works no problem. But when I click that link from the masterlist page, it throws an exception because it can't find the file. Which makes sense, it's looking for "/resources/resources/techs/masterlist.aspx" because that page is already within that directory. I know how to format that link you point to itself no problem, but I can't figure out how to do it so that I don't have to manually change each page, nulling the purpose of the masterpage.

First off, suggest better ways if you want rather than patch up this code. I am just starting this project and it is first time I have tried to code a web site so anything you suggest is very much welcomed. I have spent the last 2 and 1/2 days trying to find workable answers to this but none I have found and tried seem to fit. If needed I can email screens shots or code. I am trying to construct a website that will have the same main theme throughout as far as the header, navbars sitemap, and footer go. Naturally the content will vary from page to page. I want to use a single master page and css stylesheet for this main theme and I will change the content format as needed per page because each page may vary somewhat.
However, about 15 of the pages will all use the same format for their content and this format will differ from the rest of the site but the format of the main theme will stay the same. So I am trying to create a nested master page to use to format the just the content area for all these pages while retaining the main theme for the header, etc.. I believe I should use a separate css file with the nested master page to handle the formatting of the content areas for these 15 pages. I have code that looks like it works when viewed in web developer but design view but does not work when viewd through a browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox). So far I have the following done in web developer.
If it helps the code and screen shots follow. Master Page called "Parent.master". For all theme throughout site Nested Master Page called "Lab.master". For the 15 like pages Primary stylesheet file for main theme called "StylesheetNew.css" For site theme Secondary stylesheet file to syle the 15 like formatted pages. It is called Labmaster.css Labs.apsx file to use as first of the 15 like pages.
Finally screens shots from web developer and browser. Sorry try as I might I could not capture screenshots and put them into this post. The problem is that web developer shows all the area (many lines high) with gray background and with the XXX text that I want to allocate for content in the 15 pages. Yet all the browser show is one line of text o a white background followed by the footer. It looks like the LabStyleSheet works in Web Developer but not in a browser.

I have hosted my project in the remote server. i pasted all the dlls & all the necessary files into inetpub->wwwroot ->httpdocs->(pasted all files). In the server we have .net framework 3.5 and IIS 6.0
Now I just want to check whether my files are running locally on the server. So I did the following. Just opened the IIS, made the httpdocs folder as a virtual directory. And then I clicked the httpdocs.It displayed all the files it has in the right side pane. Then I right clicked the default.aspx and then I clicked browse. Now the browser opened with the URL http://localhost/httpdocs/default.aspx. But I could not able to see the aspx page.It just shows "The page is not found"
But when I tried the same steps for opening a .html page it works fine (http://localhost/httpdocs/test.html) I can able to view the html pages.
Whether I need to configure anything on the IIS.... What should I do to view the .aspx files

I have a client that currently has a comprehensive php website (with a huge amount of functionality built in).
We have been requested to link into our c#/SQL server application and pull information from the SQL database and display this on the existing website.
I would like to do this as aspx pages. However, I do not want to re-create the complete existing website. I would like to add the aspx functionality onto the current website.

If I drag a control from the toolbox in Visual Studio (2008+SP1) into an ASPX page I get a proposal for an ID: <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" /> That's nice and helps not to forget to assign an ID. Most of the time I rename the ID like: <asp:Button ID="MySpecialButtonForSpecialTask1" runat="server" Text="Button" />
Now I have a task 2 (3, 4, ..., n) and need a button "MySpecialButtonForSpecialTask2". So I copy and paste the first one with ID="MySpecialButtonForSpecialTask1". That's the result: <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" /> That's not nice since I need to change now "Button1" to "MySpecialButtonForSpecialTask2" but I would prefer to change "MySpecialButtonForSpecialTask1" to "MySpecialButtonForSpecialTask2". Is there any setting or trick in VS to prevent assigning new IDs after copy and paste?
I'm not looking for the option "Tools > Options > Text Editor > HTML> Miscellaneous > Auto ID elements on paste in Source view" since it also turns off creating IDs for controls inserted from the toolbox. I only would like to switch off this when copy & paste.

I'm trying to add Google Adword conversion code script to certain aspx pages in our website but I'm running into an issue with the site using master pages. The Google instruction said to place the code before the body tag but with master pages being used the code will be on all the pages using the master page. I would like setup it up where certain pages use individual conversion codes with others not using anything. Any suggestions or examples would be appreciated. Also, I'm using C#.

if u add this to web.config, then if a page have gone through long process, the client will not have a timeout exception.
<httpRuntime maxRequestLength="1024000" executionTimeout="36000"/>
they are timing out things for a purpose, what is it?, I tried to create a website with two pages I make a button in default1.aspx wait for 5 minutes. the other page requesting is not affected by that.

I wrote a test page that does a bunch of busy work in a method called at page load. This process as I have it now takes around 12 seconds.
If I try to load another page while the first long running page is loading, this second page doing nothing except writing out a world, it doesn't load until the first long running page is finished.
Why is this the case? I would think IIS would be able to handle multiple concurrent connections, it seems crazy that one long running page would stop every other page in the application from loading. I must be missing something or not understand how IIS works.
I would think multiple independent requests would be spawned on different threads. Is this only the case if the requests are from different sessions entirely? Are all requests from a single session bound to a single thread?

How do you implement SquishIt to bundle Css/Js across View Pages and Render it in the Master page? I thought I could use a ContentPlaceHolder above the Render portion, but there seems to be some odd behavior where it sometimes adds 3 files (1 in the view page and 2 in the master page) but other times will ignore the file added from the View Page.
Index.aspx
<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderID="CssFiles" runat="server">
<% CssHelper.Add("home.css"); %>
</asp:Content>
Site.master
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="CssFiles" runat="server" />
<% CssHelper.Add("reset.css"); %>
<% CssHelper.Add("master.css"); %>
<%=CssHelper.Render() %>
My current solution is a Static wrapper around SquishIt's static Bundle class that keeps the BundleBuilder in HttpContext.Current.Items.
I'm curious if this has been done successfully and how so.

I create a menu control in a user contol, named as RightUserrControl.ascx.
and i kept this RightUserrControl.ascx in nearly in 200 pages.
every thing is working fine , but when ever i am going to any page the page loading is very slow, nearly each page is taking 1 minute to load.
set caching for the user control, if this is the case , do i need to declare output cache in all 200 pages or is there any alternative way to resolve this issue.

If you run IIS Express from the command line, anything you write Console.Out in your web app is displayed in the command line output. This is very handy for trouble shooting LINQ to SQL translation issues if you set DataContext.Log = Console.Out. However, if you check "Use IIS Express" in the web project properties in VS 2010 SP1 you never see the command line.

So here is what I would like to do. Lets say I have a view that can do multiple things, and thus talk to several different controllers. For example, it might create a new group, or change the name of an existing group, or add a user to some group. Now, for the view to display correctly, it would only need the username, a list of groups, and possibly a list of users. Yet for the controllers to work they would need a different set of information, the userid to be added to a group, the name of a new group, or the name and id of a group to edit.
With this setup, there would be a potential of several different models for both input to the view, and output to the different controllers. I like the idea of using the helpers Html.Textboxfor() ect. to create the different submission elements, but I don't so much like the idea of having one giant model (Even if it just a model that inherits or has several sub models) that gets passed around everywhere for this view. It seems...
Perhaps there is a better way to do this (if so, feel free to smacking me around with a few "Your and idiot"s) but is there any way to have a separate input and output model for a view?

First of all, thank you for the attention.
I am having some trouble, I am very new to asp.net, and the last problem I had, I spent about 59 hours trying to solve, Now I have a new one !
:D well, I guess this is part of the learning process...
Well, in Visual Studio 2010, I clicked New Website. @ C# language, ... The template it gives is pretty nice, it creates a database MDF file, and a login/register setup ready to go !...
You guys can see it live AT CLICK HERE ...
Everything is working, well at least here at the local machine...
There are 2 pages in there, Default.aspX, and About.aspx ... I want to allow ONLY logged in users to view those 2 pages... I tryed a few things, added my account to a role called ADMIN,
In the web.cong I changed Allow"*" to allow"ADMIN" ... still didn't work.. Also, I was trying to avoid using roles for now, and I was trying to find a way to do this for individual pages in the same directory as well... If possible with out touching the web.config file...

i have designed a web service which would create 2 csv files on the system. I want to send the links to the location of the files as an url attachment over the aspx page.
like : http://myserver/download.aspx?file1=C: empimage1.png&file2=C: empimage2.png
the output from the asmx web service is : [Code]....
where xx.xx.xxx.xxx is the ipaddress. this is the whole output i get from the webservice.
how do i get the aspx page to send the attachment in the format i mentioned above? I have added an asp website to the project and added the webservice as a web reference to this but i do not know how to get the location from the xml output file of the webservice result.

I have a 'classic' ASP.NET app (.NET 3.5) with a pretty standard runat="server" style form with server-side controls and an 'Execute' asp:button. In the code-behind, the executeButton_click handler processes some of the other controls, runs a report, and drops the result into an asp:label. So the effect of pressing the Execute button is that the entire page reloads with the report inserted into the label.
I need to change this so that when the Execute button is pressed, the report pops up in a new window with a different layout (ie without the controls and form). If I was doing this in an MVC framework I would just change the view template in the 'execute' action, so the analogue for ASP.NET would be change the code in front, ie the .aspx file that gets used, from the code-behind class.
Is this possible? I know the link between the .aspx and the .aspx.cs isn't extremely tight as it is possible to reuse a code-behind class in multiple .aspx files. So can I set the .aspx file to render from the code-behind?
