VS 2010 - Initialize JavaScript With Master Page

Mar 12, 2012

I want some drag and drop stuff on my website. I found some javascript that works when using it with a simple html page, but when I tried to put it in my asp site it doesn't.

In site.master (between the head tags):

Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="~/Scripts/Javscriptfile.js"></script>
and then:
Code:
<body onload="redips.drag.init()">

And the error is:

Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'redips' is undefined

VS 2010 SimpleSqlProfileProvider (Altairis) Initialize?

May 28, 2010

I was looking for a custom membership/role provider and came across The Altairis Web Security Toolkit Looked at the source and this is just perfect for what I had in mind. So I implemented it in my project, created a database and tables and configured it in my web.config. Everything compiles fine, but seems I'm being stupid in how to actually use it. (Looking at the source code here might be useful in helping me out) Just to see it work, I'm making a call like this:

Code:
private readonly KrokSqlMembershipProvider_membershipService;
_membershipService = new KrokSqlMembershipProvider();
MembershipCreateStatus status;
_membershipService.CreateUser("krok", "password", "[URL], "", "", true, null, out status);

However when I debug the code, I realize that in the MembershipProvider class the configuration settings to be loaded from the web.config are empty, so it fail when trying to connect to my database (empty connection string). I notice the settings are retrieved in the Initialize method, but I'm not sure if I'm suppose to call that, and if so, how. (The sample application that comes with the source code have no code in it. It's asp.net, while I'm using asp.net mvc)

VS 2010 / Initialize Calendar Controls Selected-date

Aug 15, 2011

I have two calendar controls on my page for a user to specify a start and end date. The earliest record was created on 05/27/2011 and the latest was created on 06/22/2011 so I wanted to initialize each calendar to those dates respectively (I will get these dates when I run a database query). It is working in that the calendar properties are set correctly but I want the page to display the calendar of those months instead of defaulting to August. How do I get the calendar page to flip back three months and display May?

Add A Code-behind To A Sharepoint 2010 Master Page?

Aug 1, 2010

As part of our branding of Sharepoint 2010, we'll be modifying some custom HTML menu's based on database and user permissions.

To do this, we are looking at the use of code-behind in a custom Sharepoint 2010 master page.

The only reference I can find to creating a code-behind file for sharepoint 2010 is this blog post series. The issue I have with this is that it's using the Visual Studio 2010 Sharepoint integration, which has the genius feature of requiring a local instance of an entire Sharepoint site. This isn't something that I can do/get.

This is the MSDN for code-behind master pages in Sharepoint 2007. I'm assuming it's similar but I can't find anywhere that describes it as such.

Is deploying a code-behind for a custom master page the same as in Sharepoint 2007 or does anyone have any experience doing this?

VS 2010 - Content Page Accessing Event Handlers From Two Different Master Pages

Jul 1, 2013

I have a ASP.NET content page where the master page is set dynamically. Both master pages contain a print button and an associated event handler for the click event of the button. Unfortunately I receive a run-time error when I attempt to dynamically access the event from the master page that was not initially assigned. Below are code snippets:

Page_Load():
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim strPageTitle As String = "Evaluator Data Form - Instructions"
If Page.MasterPageFile.Contains("masEvaluators.master") Then
Dim mp As Evaluators_masEvaluators = CType(Me.Master, Evaluators_masEvaluators)

[code]....

which produces the following error when I load the page and reference the "masStaff.master" master page:

System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.staff_masstaff_master' to type 'Evaluators_masEvaluators'. at Evaluators_EDF_Instructions.Page_Load....

I can solve the problem by adding a print button to the content page, but that defeats the purpose of using a master page.

VS 2010 - Master / Child Page Layout - Embed Third Party Website As Child Page

Aug 29, 2011

I have a web application that uses the master/child page layout you get by default (at least in a VS2010 web project). The Masterpage has a NavigationMenu, each item on that NavigationMenu has a NavigateUrl that looks like "~/Pages/MyPage.aspx". This automatically opens 'MyPage' in the Content of the Masterpage, so that the master page with menu and header etc stays visible.

Now, the client has a guestbook on her old website (I'm basically rebuilding her website, adding the ability for her to upload new content in her browser), and she wants to keep it. This guestbook is from a 'free guestbook' third party website, over which I have no control. It's simply a website in the form [URL] .... which shows the guestbook for a user 'Username'.

In her old website, I was using frames, so the menu on the left side was in a different frame, and I would simply open the third party website in the center frame. That would create the illusion that the guestbook was on her site, while it was actually a completely different website in a separate frame.

In my new website I'm no longer using frames, but the master/child layout as explained. Is it still possible to 'host' or 'embed' this third party website as a 'child' of the master page?

I tried just putting the url to the guestbook in the NavigateUrl of a NavigationMenu item, but that doesn't work, it just navigates to the third party website and doesn't embed it in any way.
