VS 2010 - Incorrect Font Type And Sizes As Well As Objects That Are Not Correctly Aligned
May 2, 2013
My published site's pages appear to be unformatted, i.e. incorrect font type and sizes as well as objects that are not correctly aligned and of incorrect width when browsing the site with IE10. On my development platform, Windows 7 Professional using Visual Studio 2010 Professional, running in debug mode and also using IE10 the entire site appears perfectly formatted.
I've already confirmed that all CSS files and the relevant connection strings area correct and ensured that the font being used is installed on the hosting platform.I just used my MacBook and browsed the published web site using IE 9, Chrome and Safari - the site displayed and functioned 100%. I repeated the same test using Safari on iOS and again had perfect results. It thus appears that the problem relates to IE10.

We are sending html-based emails out to customers. This is a stripped-down version of it:
Code:
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4">
<!-- Get the items here -->
<tr bgcolor="ddddee">
<td align="left"><strong>1</strong></td>
[Code] ....
I have this code in an html file and I can view it in IE. There are eight columns, and currently one row that just has a value of One in column 1, Two in column 2, etc.
So a customer is currently receiving an email with these eight columns. He wants a ninth column called "Special Instructions". It can be free-form text and therefore rather lengthy. The customer wants to make all the text smaller to accomodate the new field. How would this be accomplished? How does it know what font to use now?

I have questions relating to specifying font-sizes in web page.Is it ok to specify it as style='font-size:12px' or style = 'font-size:14pt' or there is a better way to do this? I want to be sure that I get a uniform cross-browser solution to font-sizes.

point me to information regarding getting font metrics from a true type font in C#? I need to split some text from an RSS feed for a given box height and width.
I've checked System.Drawing.Font and GetHeight is there but how do I get the width of a character?
I understand each character is rendered as a glyph but not sure which class will get the width of the character?

I'm concatenating a string in codebehind to use in a sql select statement.
in aspx
<asp:Label ID="LabelHidden" runat="server" Visible="False"></asp:Label>
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Data] WHERE [ActivityName] IN (@ActivityName) AND ([ID] = @ID)"
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="DropDownList_Employees" Name="ID"
PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int32" />
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="LabelHidden" Name="ActivityName"
Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
in codebehind
foreach (ListItem li in ListBox_Activities.Items)
{
if (li.Selected)
{
queryBuilder += li + "', ";
}
queryBuilder = queryBuilder.Substring(0, queryBuilder.Length - 1);
LabelHidden.Text = queryBuilder;
When i run the code it comes up blank. I did a query trace and it seems to be running as
exec sp_executesql N'SELECT * FROM [Data] WHERE [ActivityName] IN (@ActivityName) AND ([ID] = @ID)',N'@EmployeeID int,@ActivityName nvarchar(50)',@EmployeeID=4,@ActivityName=N'Production Technical Support'', Tools Development'','
with exta "'s
How can i format the queryBuilder string correctly in my code?

I have a gridview on my page which is bound to a data table and displays search results. In the RowDataBound event I have the following code to handle row selection -
Code:
e.Row.Attributes.Add("onclick", ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(gvResults, "Select$" + e.Row.RowIndex.ToString()))
e.Row.Style.Add("cursor", "pointer")
e.Row.Attributes.Add("onmousedown", "MouseEvents(this, event)")
On the page itself I have the following to change the fond of the selected row
[Code]....
The problem I have is if I do another search even though I clear the grid and rebind a row is still showing in the different font even though it hasn't actually been selected. How do I ensure all rows are in the same font on binding to the gridview?

here is my code:
return from c in db.TBLcharacters
join o in db.TBLjobs on c.char_job equals o.job_title
orderby c.char_lastname descending
select c;
The goal is to print out the job title from the seperate table when I list the names of the Employees. So in the final formatting on the view it would be John Doe [Janitor] (or something similiar)
But when I make the build I get the following error:
The type of one of the expressions in the join clause is incorrect. Type inference failed in the call to 'Join'.
What I find wierd is cjar_job and job_title are both varchars so the type is the same.

I'm sort of new to developing Asp.net webapplication projects while running them on a local IIS. Till now I used the 'Use Visual Studio Development Server' option.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.
Edit: less complex sample code
Following code sample:
List<string> _list = new List<string>();
_list.Add("asd");
_list.Add("asd2");
_list.Add("asd3");
Now I want to debug / step through some line of codes with _list. While using 'Use Visual Studio Development Server' I can see the contents of _list in the quick watch. If I select 'Use Local IIS Web server' and debug through the same piece of code, the quickwatch tries to display me the same values by showing me a spinning wheel for about 10 seconds with a resulting 'Function evalutation disabeld because a previous function evalution timed out. You must continue execution to reenable function evalution' message.
Afterwards I get a windows error dialog with 'Unhandeld win32 exception occured in w3wp.exe [844] The Just-In Time debugger was launched without necessary security permission..'
I do run Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 as Administrator. I start debugging by pressing F5. It seems that I can't really debug this way. Do I somehow have to attach the VS debuggerto the IIS process? If yes, how to do so?
What am I doing wrong, and how to solve it?
And by the way, is that erroneous behaviour new in VS 2010? I've never expierencied that in VS 2008.

I need to read a file on a server into a textbox. I did a test on my local PC, to make sure it works the same in a web app as it does on a desktop app.
The data appears to read just fine, but it doesn't display properly. The test file in the screenshot below, shows how the data should be displayed. When using a desktop app, the data displays just like this.
But on the web app, I get this:
Although the TextBox appears to be MultiLine, it only displays the data in the middle of the box and as one line. Am I missing something?

This is in my opinion an abstract problem and I hope I can explain it well. I happened to find the same kind of problem in a completely different project and now I have it again and I would like to avoid it if possible.
I'm creating some classes to simplify some tasks for some specific requirements we have in some projects at work.
I have a class that creates objects which maps the values from webcontrols to an object properties similar to this
[URL]
The problem I have it's sometimes I have to store a non container object in a place (in an object's attribute) and sometimes I have to a store a container object in the same place for storing the values of a webcontrol (a webcontrol can sometimes hold several values like a checkboxlist). I dont like this at all, because some time ago when working in a non commercial compiler, when parsing and generating the intermediate code I had sometimes to store a container in a place, and sometimes I had to store a non container in the same place, and having to ask in other parts of the code if what you are reading is this type of object, or this another type of object, it is something really annoying and it mess up the code. Is there any tips about what it would be better to do to avoid this kind of situations or nothing can be done to avoid it sometimes?

I have recently updated from web developer 2008 express to 2010 and notice that the drop down for server objects & events that is included in the 2008 edition does not seem to exist in this edition. I have tried all the settings and switched on Experts settings and imported all the expert settings but to no avail.Is there a different way to select events in 2010 version (I was using it to import procedures mainly for validation).

Is it possible to change the font and font size of the data in the dropdown of a Combobox?
I've tried;
.CustomComboBoxStyle .ajax__combobox_itemlist li {
width: 150px;
font-family:Verdana;
font-size:smaller;
}
and setting the CssClass to it, but doesn't affect the font. I can adjust the width of the dropdown object, but I need to change that gawd awful font.

Just upgraded from SSRS 2005 to 2008 (on a test server). I have a report with a list and in this list are about a dozen fields in textboxes whose fonts are all set to Verdana 8pt. When I run the report from the Report Manager, one of the 12 fields is displaying in a serif font (like Times New Roman) at around 12pt. When I preview the report in Visual Studio every field looks fine and when I run the same report in SSRS 2005 every field looks fine. Has to be a SSRS 2008 bug!

I've built a TreeView in ASP.NET 3.5 and it works great, except the expand and collapse images (which are 20px by 20px) do not align properly with the text in the nodes. Below is a screen shot of the applicable tree, with all items selected to allow you to see where the items are lined up. I need the text to be vertically centered (by one means or another) so it lines up with the center of its expand/collapse image.
I've tried numerous tricks to make this happen, including CSS, but can't seem to find the right technique.

I am planning to make a membership-oriented website where users are allowed to upload files to their accounts, which have a limited amount of space.I can surely see a code-oriented solution (with a database holding the size of each file), but I was wondering whether it's possible to restrict folder sizes with Windows or ASP.Net (web.config?). I don't really think it's possible through the web.config,
but I'd still like to ask the community.Does anyone know what's the best way to implement the above?
