is it possible to install VS 2005 Pro edition on a Windows 7 64Bit machine?
Would the web projects and application deployed with it work on this platform?

View 5 RepliesI have developed one software in C# and the database used is sql server 2005. I have completed the software but now I want to provide setup in a autorun CD to my customer. I have prepare setup but I am not able to deliver my database along with my .net code. What I want to do is when user will install my project on his computer using the CD I am suppose to provide, it should install SqlServer Enterprise edition and should use this database. It may means that, setup should create database on the user computer.

I have a problem where by when my 32 bit application is installed on a 64 bit Windows 2008 Server, it installs to the Program Files (x86) directory.I need it to install to the 'C:Program Files' directory. View 4 RepliesI have installed VS Team System 2008 from a dvd on my computer,the setup has installed every thing but failled the installation of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.The setup terminates my this error"An error has occured during the installation,Could not install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition".
Then I have tried to install sql server 2005 through SQLEXPR.exe. But this .exe file has failed the installation of SQL Server Database Services and MSXML6.
Do anybody have any idea why sql server 2005 is not installing on my machine?
P.S I haven't installed any other version of VS except this VS 2008.

I just moved to a new PC and installed VS 2010. I copied all of my websites over from the old machine and now when I open the old websites on the new machine, they do not show up in my recent projects list on the start page. New websites that I make do show up there but the old ones do not. This is very inconvenient. Is there a way to make old projects that I open show up in the list?
This brings up another question. Is there a way to make a shortcut that will open VS2010 up with a website already loaded so that I don't have to go through the file open dialog every time?
I have a multi-tiered application. I would like to publish the class libraries to UI developers to let them add to their web or windows projects to add all the functionality.
I would like to restrict access so only a certain project can be referenced. The reason is so that they do not refer to the data access layer directly and start making calls that would bypass the business logic built into the business tier.
UI->>Business Logic->>Data Access
So in other words, BL and DA are deployed as compiled assemblies. BL references DA. UI will reference BL, but I would like to strictly prevent any other project from referencing DA directly.
I am a programer really new to all ASP applications and stuff. I have a server application done with VS, wich run correctly from there, but I need it to run from outside VS. I guess It has something to do with the IIS, and I already added it to the windows components, but I still have no clue how to run it.

How do I set the ASP.net application name for the built in IIS for VS 2005? I am setting up a new dev box with an existing application. It has all the users and roles already created so I just need to specify the correct Application name and everything should work. It seems to run off the directory name of the project by default. But that isn't working completly for me. The Application name in the database is '/budgetsite' But when I put the files in c:developmentudgetsite' the web server uses 'budgetsite' as the Application Name. I am trying to avoid installing IIS on this box.

I noticed right away that the "Web" project was missing and found that the "Microsoft Web Application Projects" did not install on the server.I checked on a couple other boxes that have VS 2005 installed on them, and they all had "Microsoft Web Application Projects" installed. Does this not install on a Win 2003 box? How do I install this?

I have an ASP.NET 2.0 web application that needs to be migrated to this server, and as we are a non-profit organization, I need to do so as inexpensively as possible. It is a simple application and I do not need the new features in more recent versions of .NET, Visual Studio, etc. I just need to make it work.

My question is: Do I have to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 in order to compile my 2.0 application to work with the 3.5 framework? Or is there another way to accomplish this?
I'm trying to build a windows application running in Windows 7 that access the TFS work items and I'm getting an error messenge that says:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies.
I dig up a little bit to find out what is happening and I found out that the assembly must have a strong name which I'm still trying to understand how to give one to it but before that I tried to run the same code but as aweb application and it's running just fine. Running the same windows application in
windows Vista also works. Debuging the windows application in windows 7 code the error throws when a rotine that has an object been stantiated to the class TeamFoundationServer is called. This class is into the Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client.dll which is the dll that I should give the strong name, and may be solve the problem. What I would like to know is if it already have happened with you to some reference doesn't work to a specifc kind of application and if giving a strong name solved your problem or from your experience what might be occurring?

View 1 Replies I had VS 2010 RC installed on my machine. Uninstalled it and wanted to install VWD 2010.
I installed Web Platform Installer as instructed on the download site, but there is no VWD Express under any tabs...including Tools.
FYI: I did install VWD 2010 using WPI on my other machine but somehow on this machine WPI does not show this option.
Not sure if VS2010 RC was installed on this machine and that's the issue.
Now i am downloading .iso image for VS 2010 Express that has VWD express.

I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.
