Dec 3, 2010
I am developping the ERP Web Application. My solution structure is as given below. Main Web Application - Having reference to All Module Web Application. Common Web Application - Has Master Page, User Control, Login page, Defualt Error and etc Module Web Application - Having Module wise Aspx and code behind. It refer Common Web Application to reduce redundacy. In this Context we are facing the following problem.
1) while running web application in the debug mode it gives error as 'the target assembly contains no service types. You may need to adjust the Code Access Security policy of this assembly'
2) Could not Debug both Module and Common Web Application.
3) In Design Time both Master or user control not renders in refered Aspx Page.
4) While I debug in visual studio 2010, it gets restart after some time.

I have added an assembly into GAC in VS 2005, and VS 2008 as well.
Today I have tried the same approach, but I am not getting.
I am not understanding what is the problem, but I am ending up with the following two warnings!
Warning 1 Option 'keyfile' overrides attribute 'System.Reflection.AssemblyKeyFileAttribute' given in a source file or added moduleWarning 2 Use command line option '/keyfile' or appropriate project settings instead of 'AssemblyKeyFile'

I'm using a 64bit dll (system.data.sqlite) in an Asp.net MVC app in VS 2010. The application runs and debugs fine, but all the aspx and ascx pages show errors when editing in Visual Studio 2010 and intellisense doesn't work. This is a VS2010 regression bug. Does anyone have a work around? (OR)Does anyone know of a free, reliable, production ready embeddable database that doesn't cause a 32/64 bit problem?More DetailsApparently this worked in Visual Studio 2008 and this has been is a known regression bug in Visual Studio 2010 for several months. I don't want to revert to VS 2008 and I don't want to debug in 32 bit mode.
I have web application that needs to debug and deploy as a 64 bit mode because it uses uses some unmanaged 64 bit dll's like system.data.sqlite. Also, I prefer debugging in 64 bit mode because it allows us to test some high memory use cases. After a lot of fiddling, Asp.net will deploy and run just fine. However all the aspx and ascx pages show errors and intellisense doesn't work when editing them in Visual Studio 2010. Apparently this worked in Visual Studio 2008 and this has been is a known problem in Visual Studio 2010 for months. I don't want to revert to VS 2008. There was a work around posted on SO here but it didn't work in my tests, limits debugging to 32bit mode, and also feels a bit hacky (I think it only works for VS Express style websites). Has anyone made this work in a web application or have a better work around? For those who are interested Visual Studio 2010 has two other problems with 64bit dlls that I have managed to work around.
Problem 1 - Cassini: Cassini can only debug in 32 bit modeSolution 1 - CassiniDev or Localhost: Debug using localhost or compile CassiniDev (an opensoure variant of cassini) in 64bit mode. I like the zero config simplicity of debugging a new web app with cassini so I used CassiniDev. You just stick the dlls in C:Program Files (x86)Common Filesmicrosoft sharedDevServer10.0 and it works (I recommended making a backup of the Cassini version you will be over writing).Problem 2 - MSTest: By default unit tests run with MSTest fail to load 64bit dlls.Solution 2 - AnyCPU & 64bit host process Instructions here, set local.testsettings to AnyCPU & 64bit host processI'm starting to think the whole setup is too little hacky and I'm on the verge of giving up and restructuring my application to not use a 64bit dll. I'm also really disappointed that Visual Studio 2010 caused all these problems. Can somebody make MS fix the regression bug they created?

I created a web application using visual studio 2010 / MVC2 / MSSQL 2008 and it runs fine in my laptop. However when I run the application in the hosting provider it shows the error message below:
Compiler Error Message:
CS0308
The hosting provider is [URL] and the link to my web application is [URL] I would like to know how to solve this issue? If anyone know PLEASE let me know how to troubleshoot / fix this issue. Also in case the problem is on the hosting provider, let me know if you know of a free or very affordable hosting provider with support for MVC 2 and MSSQL 2008.

I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?

In a Web Application project in VS08, how do you create an assembly? E.g. you derive a class based on HtmlGenericControl to form your own div, override the ClientId and UniqueId properties, so as not to get screwed up id's on the client-side, and then you want to use/reference this control in an aspx page.
refer to David Lively's answer (c# control names) regarding the same thing. I have tried his solution but I keep getting "could not load assembly file".

I created an asp.net application, and it worked on my local PC. I was using Visual Web Developer 2010 beta.
Then I uploaded almost every file (not the sln and suo files) to my shared-host unix website. This Unix website is supposed to support asp.net.
But I got this error:
Server error in application. Could not load file or assembly 'dave' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded Does this mean my version of the net.framework is too advanced? Or maybe the version of Visual Web Developer? Or some other reason?

I'm trying to publish my ASP.NET web application in Visual Studio 2010. I'm then trying to install it as a website on a server using IIS. I've gotten my application to publish (to a .zip file) but it points to the physical directory on my hard drive. This obviously will not work on the server.

My instructions for creating a new web service with VWD 2010 Express call for using the installed template, "AST.NET Web Service". But this template is not listed.
I would like to create a simple web service in visual basic, place it in IIS 7 on my desktop, and then consume it probably using a proxy class.
Is there another way to create a new web service in VWD 2010 Express?

i notice that when i start next line of code and i press enter, it recompacts itself and the continued line moves left a bit... then if i place focus on the second line and press enter again, it (the second line) moves to the left some more, and it keeps doing this every time i focus on second line and press enter. this is as you can imagine, really annoying!!
how can i make it so that my second (and third etc) lines are formatted in a pre-determined way so they are always a certain amount of tabs indented to the right from where my line 1 starts??

I just migrated myDocuments folder to a new laptop (windows 7, 64 bit). The visual studio project WAS working on my desktop computer (windows XP pro).
Runtime error is:
ASP.NET runtime error: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f
It references the config file, so I am looking to see if I need to add something in there or what?
