Apr 25, 2010How easy is it to publish your project using Visual Web Developer 2010? Right now, the ease of use using Database Publishing Wizard makes my publishing breezely smooth. [:)]

Jul 5, 2010Recently I've upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010, however I'm having various problems when uploading my compiled web site to the live area. I'm doing exactly the same as I would have done with Visual Studio 2008, however, now I receive errors such as:
{filename}.aspx is not a pre-compiled file
masterpage.master does not exist
All these errors don't make sense. Has anyone encountered these problems before, and was a solution ever found?

Sep 11, 2010We need through command line to build our site (which we already do using msbuild.exe), but the resulting files are way too many and it takes our to ftp it to the server. I am able to publish the website and reduce its size by ~90%; however, we need to do this through command line not manually using the GUI. I have read many postings but noone is clear on how to do it (and msbuild seems to no be able to do this). Can anyone provide me a link. We are using Visual Studio 2010 and DOT NET4.0

Jul 12, 2010I create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 project with Visual Web Developer 2010 a while back. After some testing, I realized that the built-in development server is too slow for proper testing, so I decided to switch to IIS. I created a new IIS website that points to my project on disk, and configured it to use the .NET 4 application pool. Many problems arose from this:
If I open the solution file in VWD, then clean the project, IIS gives me a "Could not load type: ***" where *** is my global.asax class name.If I open the IIS website in VWD and then try to build the project, I get the same error.If I open the solution file in VWD, build the project, then open the IIS website in VWD, and then build, the build is successful. However, whenever I make a change in the code and then build again, my change is simply ignored (it seems to only be using the assembly that was compiled when I built it as a solution). When I open the IIS website in VWD, and start debugging, the debugger does not catch requests to the IIS website.My guess is that when I open the IIS website in VWD, it outputs the built assemblies to a directory that IIS is not aware of. Is there a way I can configure it to output everything to the bin directory instead? Or am I doing something wrong?

Apr 20, 2010When I try to connect to my SQL Server 2005 from within the Visual Web Developer 2010 Database Explorer, I get the "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later" message.If I open up my web project from within VWD 2008, it still works fine.For reference, my SQL 2005 machine is a separate machine than one I installed VWD 2010 on. I did install the ASP.NET 4 framework on the SQL 2005 machine (but not any of the extra tools).

Feb 1, 2011I have not been able to open css files in VWD, I must have sone something I don't know. I can open them in wordpad, and WebDevelopment Server still displays properly so the file is not currupt. Is there a setting I messed up in web.config or somewhere else?

Jul 28, 2010I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.

Jul 31, 2010I have this big project running VWD2010 and it eats a lot of resources about 340mb+. This does not happen before, last time I check this one project runs less than 150mb. Sometimes, I even run two instances of VWD2010, one project has lesser files about 130mb and combining the two, about less than 340mb. But on a single project that doesn't run more than 300mb before, is this normal? Is VWD2010 updates something?
I only use Task Manager to check the memory consumption.

I've gotten my application to publish (to a .zip file) but it points to the physical directory on my hard drive. This obviously will not work on the server.

Mar 31, 2011I'm trying to publish my mvc3 project to a web host server, I right clicked my project and selected publish, there i entered the ftp information, VS2010 uploaded the files to the ftp, but when i try to surf to the remote site i get an error "Directory Listing Denied". all guides I found requierd an installation on the web host side, is there no way to just upload the site like in classic asp?
