Visual Studio :: Class Methods And Code Behind Events Diagram?
Jun 23, 2010
is there any tools within VS2008 or Free 3rd Party tools where i can generate a Diagram of Class Methods and Code Behind events. think of the Table Diagram of SQL, it will show all fields, Primary Keys and to what table it is connected via foreign keys, etc. That is what i wish to make, in a much faster way, where it will show all class and within it is all the methods then linking them are the Code behinds and the event where the class is called.
This is the error i'm getting while try to view class diagram, any suggestion. Some of the seleced types cannot be added to the class diagram.Checks the code for errors and ensure that all required assemblies are referenced.
am using class diagram of visual studio 2008as you can see the image i need show to user that the period and calendar classes have the idMarket property that refers to market classhow can i do this?
I have a solution consisting of many projects. it's very hard to trace your way around to find the right class or method to change , which led me to try to create a diagram that can model the whole solution. Is there a tool in visual studio ( class diagram designer or rational rose ) or even a third party tool that can revers engineer the solution and generate a class diagram, including all the classrelations, compositions, hierarchies and etc.
I have finished coding a project and need to do a class diagram for my documentation is there a way to make a class diagram in Web Developer 2010? I remeber there was a feature that implements a Class Diagram in C# 2005 but not sure in 2008 and web devekoper 2010.
I need to plan out a Class, Method, Attribute style diagram, I have looked at the Class Designer in Visual Studio, but it seems to not do what I want. I want to be able to have a diagram show the classes just like in Visual Studio - except I want to be able to represent the parameters these methods require, for example:
getStock(StockID)
And this be shown in the Diagram. This is for an ASP.NET website - what are the best ways of creating a diagram for a website like this to represent the methods - I don't want to start generating classes - which is why I want to use Visio, plus I am more familiar with Visio than the Visual Studio Class designer as I mostly use the Express line of products which don't feature this. I want this for example for Default.aspx:
I don't want to use UML as this is too confusing - the Visual Studio Class diagram is close to what I want but I cannot get it to show the Parameters on my Methods. My main aim is to have "stubs" for each method a page requires to implement that functionality as a Developer this is the easiest way I can plan out this project.
while viewing Class diagram its images are not clear since they are of small size. Its width are increasing but not height. How to increase its height ?
In the video here [URL] Joe adds event stubs to his code by selecting them from the drop down in upper right portion of the code window. I can do this in VB, but not C#. Is this feature only available in VB? Is there a setting I must adjust in C#? Is there a way in C# to get a stub for the (for example) OnPreInit event?
I started a new web project in VS2008 coding in vb.net. When I double-click on a control in the designer screen to go to the vb code page so I can code on some events, the control does not show in the control dropdown which means I cannot get to all of the different events. The only way I can do this is to add a line like below inside the class at the top:
[Code]....
I am working with another project that does not have this problem. Is there a setting that changes this?
I have two classes (say someclass.cs and someclass.generatedcode.cs). How do I make the someclass.generatedcode.cs inside of someclass.cs (something like a code behind) in visual studio?
I've always just used incremental search, but have recently starting using a class browser plugin for vim and would like something of the same in Visual Studio to navigate methods, properties, etc. in a browser type window. Seems like this is what Class View is for, but when I'm on a page's code behind, it doesn't show up on the class view window.
When I search for the class, it shows up but when I click on it I get "The definition of the object is hidden.". Is there some basic setup thing I'm doing wrong or does VS not support class view for page classes? Is there an extension that does this (I'm using VS2010)?
Opening an existing asp.net 3.5 project using VWD Express 2010, the database diagram file under Database Diagrams folder went missing in Database Explorer tab. Everything is in there when I first created the diagram using VWD Express 2008. However, when I look at the .dbml file, the associated relationship between dozens of tables exist and my project runs successfully. I'm planning to create another table with relationships from existing tables but seems like I have to painfully recreate them back from scratch. How can I recover those diagrams?
I have an asp.net website with a reference to a class library. I can reference the class library in the aspx pages but how do I configure my site so that I can also reference the class library from a .cs file in app code?
I've got an ASP.NET 4 web forms application I'm building in Studio 2010. The solution has two projects. A web forms application and a class library. I have added a reference to the class libraryr project in the web forms project, but when I go a code behind page in the web forms project, it does not recognize the class from the class library and throws the "type or namespace <class> could not be found ...." error. Adding a using <class library projec> does not work either as it does not recognize that.
I am beginner in web applications development. I started one little project and host it on source forge "https://homoco.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/homoco". And I started implementing authentication in this application to learn how it works. From my experience people never use out of the box things so I want to implement this stuff alone (like in real world projects). So some questions:
1) Is there any reason to use membership out of the box? To use database table schema, stored procedures etc. that tool generate for developer. I think that this lower control over code and I decided to implement it my self. I don't know if I am right.
2) Is my approach in this demo project good or bad (if someone have time I like to do just a little code review)? I created database based on business rules. Not using database schema that membership provider require. Extend "MembershipProvider" class to satisfy my needs. Implement queries to database myself.
3) Now, this question is a little wired but I have to ask it. If we make custom Membership Provider and do sql queries alone, implement all MembershipProvider class methods ourselves, and in application use Membership.blabla() why is this approach different from not extending MembershipProvider class and putting all this methods in some unique class and call its methods then? I hope that someone understand what I ask here.
I am sorry for three questions, but I really trying to find the best way to implement this feature in my demo project like it is a real world application.
I have VWD Express and I can't debug lower layer methods in the application the debugger doesn't step into breakpoints that are set in these layers. what do I do? I need to debug lower layer assemblies most of the time.
can Visual Studio 2008 be All-In-One tool to integrate source code continuously from team members, build, unit test?
Having used Visual Studio Team Edition 2005, unit testing each method within VS itself. I strongly believe that it is feasible to add-on tools. Example ankhsvn tool to use SVN from Visual studio [URL]
In my investigating i have come across number of tools(shown below) to use with Visual Studio 2008 professional
Development tool:- Visual Studio 2008 professional using Subversion as source control tool. Continuous Integration:- Hudson or Cruise control Build tool:- NAnt Testing:- NUnit, Selinium As Visual Studio 2008 can be used for unit testing I think NUnit is out of consideration.
In the same way i would like to have any other tools/add-ons to Visual studio to implement continuous integration, building and unit testing. This process should be automated such a way source code between team members is continuously integrated, built and unit testing is done as configured.
Objective is to use few number of tools as add-on to Visual Studio or achieve most from Visual studio itself (example unit testing). Visual Studio should be all in one tool.
I am aware that Team Foundation Server best suits my requirement, but it is out of scope due to its cost.
I am trying to incorporate AJAX in my web project for the first time and it isn't working. I don't know how to instantiate a class once and use AJAX to update the dataset numerous times before updating the database changes using a postback.
My project is to learn AJAX with a class object. Clicking the button is supposed to increment a count by one using a class to store the count. Here is my class:
[Code]....
Here is my HTML code:
[Code]....
And here are my button click event code snippets:
[Code]....
My problem is that as I step through the code (after clicking on the second button) it instantiates a new class object each time which returns a value of 2 every time. I have tried to fix the problem by putting my counter class instantiation in the pageload event using "If Not IsPostBack Then ..." but my probem there is that the button click event block of code would not recognize the cCount class - it put the blue lines under the cCount
My goal is to have the class object available to multiple events in the code behind: especially using AJAX to build records in one of my DataSet tables Does anyone know how to handle this?
have a test project for testing methods in the Business/Models tier of my application. For methods that do calculations or have return types this works great. What would some suggested ways to perform (any is this even necessary) testing on methods that would normally have no return type, such as a 'Delete' method?Example:
IMPORTANT Can any body solve this one ?How to create page's Init, Load, PreRender etc. event handlers in VS 2008? When we double click on the page, it will create Page_Load event. How to create othere events of page? I am using c# in ASP.NET application. There is no Event tab in image.
The if (!Page.IsPostBack) is always false went the page loads after i click a linkbutton and it never goes into the linkbutton event. Googled as much as I can. I am kinda new to asp
I opend various applications and made even a new one, but nothing..
Changed from design to source view and back, even performing a "reset all settings "from the tools - import and export setting dus not give me my events tab back.
how to get the tab (with the lightning bold) back??
I'm using VS 2005. My question is: If i'm selects a VB ASP.Net Web application project means, in each page it will listout the events assoiciate with that control in a Drop down.
But the same is not displayed when i'm using C# Web application.
How can i view the events in dropdown in C# web application?
