View 2 RepliesI create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 project with Visual Web Developer 2010 a while back. After some testing, I realized that the built-in development server is too slow for proper testing, so I decided to switch to IIS. I created a new IIS website that points to my project on disk, and configured it to use the .NET 4 application pool. Many problems arose from this:
If I open the solution file in VWD, then clean the project, IIS gives me a "Could not load type: ***" where *** is my global.asax class name.If I open the IIS website in VWD and then try to build the project, I get the same error. If I open the solution file in VWD, build the project, then open the IIS website in VWD, and then build, the build is successful. However, whenever I make a change in the code and then build again, my change is simply ignored (it seems to only be using the assembly that was compiled when I built it as a solution). When I open the IIS website in VWD, and start debugging, the debugger does not catch requests to the IIS website. My guess is that when I open the IIS website in VWD, it outputs the built assemblies to a directory that IIS is not aware of. Is there a way I can configure it to output everything to the bin directory instead? Or am I doing something wrong?
How easy is it to publish your project using Visual Web Developer 2010? Right now, the ease of use using Database Publishing Wizard makes my publishing breezely smooth. [:)]
View 2 Repliescan't find the Clean project under VWD2010, however, my project still works fine using the Build only, is this an upgrade?
View 2 RepliesWhen I try to connect to my SQL Server 2005 from within the Visual Web Developer 2010 Database Explorer, I get the "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later" message. If I open up my web project from within VWD 2008, it still works fine. For reference, my SQL 2005 machine is a separate machine than one I installed VWD 2010 on. I did install the ASP.NET 4 framework on the SQL 2005 machine (but not any of the extra tools).
View 10 RepliesI'd like to tryout ASP.NET MVC2, im using VWD2010 on Windows 7. I can't seem to be able to get the unit test dialog to pop up. I googled it and all I find is nUnit templates for VWD2008.
Anyone running into this issue with same setup as mine?
I have not been able to open css files in VWD, I must have sone something I don't know. I can open them in wordpad, and WebDevelopment Server still displays properly so the file is not currupt. Is there a setting I messed up in web.config or somewhere else?
View 5 RepliesIn Windows 7, I get this error message when installing VWD2010 Express "Visual Web Developer 2010 Express This product did not install successfully." This is the log file from Web Platform Install 2.0

I have this big project running VWD2010 and it eats a lot of resources about 340mb+. This does not happen before, last time I check this one project runs less than 150mb. Sometimes, I even run two instances of VWD2010, one project has lesser files about 130mb and combining the two, about less than 340mb. But on a single project that doesn't run more than 300mb before, is this normal? Is VWD2010 updates something?
I only use Task Manager to check the memory consumption.
From this link [URL] I get this error when installing Visual Web Developer 2010 Express.
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908."
I'm using a fresh install of Windows 7.
My project works under VWD2010 but when I click the Configuration tools at Solution Explorer, nothing happens unlike under VWD2008.
The configuration developement port is running and accessing it only gets me this error, [:(]
Server Error in '/asp.netwebadminfiles' Application.
HTTP Error 404 - Not Found.
My VWD 2010 Express Edition appears to be missing the console application template. I have searched all the options under new project in VB and C# but it just is not there. I would like to add the console application template option .
View 3 RepliesI'm using visual studio 2010 professional, I dont what had happened but i lost my settings suddenly and the VS editor is generating a HYPHEN (-) everytime when i press SPACE BAR key..
I've tried restoring the settings, changing the settings from OPTIONS without any luck.
We have many different clients, and each client can have multiple user accounts.Right now, we have user settings set up on the ASP project, and a WinForms application can see these settings, depending on which user logs into the winforms application. They are specific to the user. I want to make them specific to the client, so users can be in "groups" by their client, and all users in the group would see/update the same settings.
View 1 RepliesI know this is a simple question. How do I activate the toolbar with the Wesite option? For example, I want to select Website -> Add New Item.
View 1 RepliesI want to create the tool bar set up (Multi browser compatible )using visual studio 2005 .The tool bar will contain some icons and will get the information from any given service. On clicking of any icon of the tool bar it will call web service & save the result to the DB.
View 2 RepliesI have a very vexxing issue. After installing a third-party application and add-in for VSTS 2008, it has corrupted my menus/buttons by duplicating/cascading these throughout studio (i.e. Multiple sets of each menu - File, Edit, View, etc, each of which has multiple submenu entry sets). I have tried to use Add-In Manager to uninstall it and removing the application (which added the Add-in to VSTS). I tried Tools->Customize and resetting the MenuBar and ContextMenu options as well. I tried running each of the following (closing and then reopening VSTS after each) from the command prompt, which completed but did not fix things.
devenv /resetsettings
devenv /resetSkipPkgs
devenv /resetuserdata
devenv /setup
My question then, does anyone know a way to reset the menus/toolbars for VSTS 2008 to their defaults or correct this some other way? I know I can unistalll both products and resolve this but I *really* want to be able to use the third party app (Red Gate's SQL Prompt).
For years now, I always added the "Format Document" icon to my HTML Editing toolbar. It always was difficult to find this in VS2008 and VS2005. It seem it has been completely eliminated in VS2010.Does anyone have any idea where is might be in the Customize toolbar myriad of commands?I realize it is available under the Edit drop down menu as well as keyboard command Ctrl K, Ctrl D. But is is just so much more helpful to put it on the toolbar.
View 4 RepliesI have been using VWD2010 Express for a website that I am working on. Due to a delay in implementing the 4.0 framework at the hosting service that I use, I need to finish up with VWD2008 Express. Is there a simple way to save my project so that it is compatible with 2008?
View 2 RepliesI have an ASP.Net website as one of the projects in a Visual Studio 2010 solution. I have several files in my ASP.Net website project which are named correctly according to the expected pattern of *.aspx and *.aspx.cs, however, when I view them within the ASP.Net website project, they are not displayed hierarchically and are instead displayed in a flat file view adjacent to each other. How do I get the files to display hierarchically within Visual Studio as they are normally when I add a brand new .aspx page to the website project? I have been looking all over for a corresponding Visual Studio MSBuild or settings file that might be storing these hierarchical display settings but have found nothing as of yet.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to share settings between two projects: a console app and a WPF app. The WPF app only exists to view and change those settings.
So in my console app, I wrote the following class...
[Code]....
My WPF app has a reference to the console application, so it can access the members of this Settings class.
So you'd think that if I use the WPF app to change one of these settings, then the next time I run the console app that changed setting would be available, but that is not the case. I'll change the masUserID setting from Bill to Ted, for example, but when I launch the console app it shows the setting is still Bill. If I run the WPF app, it's set to Ted.
I just uninstalled VWD 2008 Express and installed VWD 2010 Express (all details below). I'm noticing VERY slow load times, on the order of a couple minutes to like 5-6 minutes to load a page. I really don't think this is working right. Is there some setting that I can check to see what is bogging down my app?
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
Version 10.0.21006.1 B2Rel
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.0.21006 B2Rel
I just upgraded to VWD 2010 Express and have a couple of questions:
1. How do you disable "code-behind" when creating a new project? It seems that "code-behind" is set by default. My previous projects written with VWD2008 Express use the opposite ie. the "code inside the page" approach. What options should I change?
2. When using the non "code-behind" model, the drop-down showing all page controls and their associated events is missing in my configuration. In VWDD2008, this list sits on the top of the editor. Any idea how I can restore the control list?
i created a unit test project with the built-in unit testing from vs 2008. i noticed that when running a unit test and in particular when the class i am testing attempts to set a value from the app.config file using the configurationsettings, the configuration settings object always has 0 keys...and thus my value i am trying to use is always null...is there anything about the unit testing structure that would return null values from the app config when i know the keys are there...the existing program uses those keys for email addresses and such already.
View 1 RepliesI am using VS2005 and I have a solution file (.SLN) which has 8 projects. I moved the solution file to a different path on a shared folder to have better organization of my projects and to allow access to the solution/projects from any computer on the network. After that, I edited the .SLN file so that the path of the projects in the solution file are correct (all on shared folders).
After that, I opened the .SLN and everything seemd to be working fine. However, I notcied that the "Start Options" of the website part of the solution file is missing the "Start Options", ie, the Start Options are reset to default values. I think also, but not sure, some other settings of the Solution/Projects have been reset.
Questions:
1. Where the Web Site "Start Options" are stored ?
2. How I can maintain the Start Options and similar settings if the .SLN file is moved or opened from different computers on the network ?
3. I am not using an team development tools, only plain (vanilla) VS 2005 Prof. Edition. Is it possible to have 2 or more developers work on the same solution/projects (shared on the network), if both developers will coordinate manually simultanous access to the porject files/resources/source code ?
