Visual Studio :: Unable To Open .css Files In VWD2010
Feb 1, 2011
I have not been able to open css files in VWD, I must have sone something I don't know. I can open them in wordpad, and WebDevelopment Server still displays properly so the file is not currupt. Is there a setting I messed up in web.config or somewhere else?

I have a problem within a project in Visual Web Developer. The program will not allow me to open the aspx.vb file associated with an aspx file when I choose the "View Code" option. The aspx.vb file exists; however the program is prevented from loading it and seeing it in Solutions Explorer.
The problem may be related to how the entire project is loaded -- loading it as a project vs. as a website. When I load it as a project, I have compilation errors that do not exist otherwise, but can see the aspx.vb files. When it is loaded as a website, I can't open the aspx.vb files as described above.

I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed properly?

I am using VS 2008 for development of a web application and IE 7.
The website as usually has some java script and some server side code files (different layers).
For some reason when I start the application in the debug mode (by hitting F5), the break points in the JS are not hit. I get the usual error as no symbols are loaded. But the break points in the CS files in the layers are hit.
If I use (CTLR + F5) and then attach the IE process to debug, then I am able to hit the break points in the JS file. But in this scenario I cant debug the CS files (I presume this is the expected bahaviour).
EDIT: In the IE (properties dialog), 'disable debugging' are unchecked.
why in the F5 mode I am not able to hit the debug points. The same used to work in the different machine not sure what is wrong in this one.

I create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 project with Visual Web Developer 2010 a while back. After some testing, I realized that the built-in development server is too slow for proper testing, so I decided to switch to IIS. I created a new IIS website that points to my project on disk, and configured it to use the .NET 4 application pool. Many problems arose from this:
If I open the solution file in VWD, then clean the project, IIS gives me a "Could not load type: ***" where *** is my global.asax class name.If I open the IIS website in VWD and then try to build the project, I get the same error. If I open the solution file in VWD, build the project, then open the IIS website in VWD, and then build, the build is successful. However, whenever I make a change in the code and then build again, my change is simply ignored (it seems to only be using the assembly that was compiled when I built it as a solution). When I open the IIS website in VWD, and start debugging, the debugger does not catch requests to the IIS website. My guess is that when I open the IIS website in VWD, it outputs the built assemblies to a directory that IIS is not aware of. Is there a way I can configure it to output everything to the bin directory instead? Or am I doing something wrong?

How easy is it to publish your project using Visual Web Developer 2010? Right now, the ease of use using Database Publishing Wizard makes my publishing breezely smooth. [:)]

When I try to connect to my SQL Server 2005 from within the Visual Web Developer 2010 Database Explorer, I get the "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later" message. If I open up my web project from within VWD 2008, it still works fine. For reference, my SQL 2005 machine is a separate machine than one I installed VWD 2010 on. I did install the ASP.NET 4 framework on the SQL 2005 machine (but not any of the extra tools).

I open VS 2008 and try to open any aspx file in the IDE it freezse and will stay that way. I can open the ebCongif file if I try it first. I am slowly working out the setup issues with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on my newly installed Windows 7 Professional Machine. I was running XP and copied most of my files back over using the 'Windows Easy Transfer' tool I used prior to installing (not an upgrade) Windows 7.
When I try to publish my website to wwwroot in 2 ways. When I select 'Delete all existing files prior to publish' I get the following error:
Error deleting file 'about.aspx'. Unable to delete 'about.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system.
When I use 'Replace matching files with local copies' I get this error:
Unable to add 'about.aspx' to the Web site. Unable to add file 'about.aspx'. Access is denied.

I have this big project running VWD2010 and it eats a lot of resources about 340mb+. This does not happen before, last time I check this one project runs less than 150mb. Sometimes, I even run two instances of VWD2010, one project has lesser files about 130mb and combining the two, about less than 340mb. But on a single project that doesn't run more than 300mb before, is this normal? Is VWD2010 updates something?
I only use Task Manager to check the memory consumption.

I have been using VWD2010 Express for a website that I am working on. Due to a delay in implementing the 4.0 framework at the hosting service that I use, I need to finish up with VWD2008 Express. Is there a simple way to save my project so that it is compatible with 2008?
