I am using VS2008. When I tried to implement AJAX to my application, I couldn't get the smart tag for the Required Field Validator in the webform. I need it to implement 'ValidatorCalloutExtender' (AJAX) control in my application.

View 1 RepliesI mainly do C# ASP.NET projects in VS2010. Once you've put masterpages and other things in place, I find the design view pretty much goes grey and elements can't be selected. This isn't so bad except that sometimes you need to access the little 'smart tags' at the top right of controls to do things.
In particular I'm trying to do this with some telerik controls, though the issue isn't confined to them.
Anyone have a handy tip to access this functionality (or miraculously make design view work!) ?
PS. I read in a few places that Shift-Alt-F10 may help. I tried putting my cursor in the control's tag and using it, no luck. Also I clicked the little rectangle below design view to select the control and tried it again- no luck.
I have quite a few web applications using Ajax that have been working for a while. I migrated from a machine running Vista to a new machine running Windows 7 64 bit. I reinstalled VS2008 and also installed
ASP.NET Ajax Library 0911 Beta. The old controls using Ajax extenders are still working fine and their smart tags show up with the option of "Remove Extender..." . However, when I add new controls, their smart tags are disabled (grayed). If I remove the extender from an old control, its smart tag will disappear.
I have been trying to solve this issue for a while, but no solution till now.
I try to reinstall it but still , the smart tag are not showing up and when I right click it, it is grayed out.
Anyone, with a solution to solve this issue. I am using asp.net 3.5, visual studio 2008
I upgraded my application from vs2008 to vs 2010...evrything is working fine but the toolbox is showing empty.
Iam viewing the toolbox in design view.
where to find/download visual source safe plug in or visual source safe client for visual studio 2005 IDE?
I do not want to install visual source safe 2005 server.
but it does show up in 2008.I uninstalled all traces of MVC 2 from my machine and downloaded the latest release today.

But I cant change anything. I am on a Windows 7 64bit machine. I havent done anything besides installing Visual Web Developer Express 2010.

I recently got a new PC and had all my development tools installed/configured, including Visual Studio 2003 (for support of older apps) and IIS. When working on web projects in the past, I would open the project via File->Open->Project from Web.The defaultURL is http://localhost, as it was on my old PC. When I click OK, no web projects are showing, even though I've setup a few asp.net web projects in IIS. To set these up, I moved the project to c:inetpubwwwroot<project name>, then go into IIS and change the folder to an app, and select 1.1 under the asp.net tab. I've also made sure the Frontpage server extensions are installed.I can open the project by using File->Open->Project, but I get "Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. You do not have permissions to debug the server".I found several articles online addressing this and have made all suggested changes but so far nothing has worked.I feel that if I can get the project to show/open as a web project it will resolve this issue as well.

why Visual Studio is not showing the last project open. Actually it's not showing any that I have had open. If there a clitch.
i used a jQuery plugin who try to call three or four method because some of them not implemented in some browser. code is working fine for me and it's work in all browser.when i try to debug the application in visual studio and internet explorer then i found the same errror everytime Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method i see the same error every time. are it is not really so weird that they give me error every time even i put refresh and see error first then see the page in IE. i am trying to disable the script debugging for other and IE in IE but after that they never forget to give me error.well i am not want to go in the depth of this but someone tell if i can stop showing this window in my visual studio 2010.

ALL the server controls are not showing in Visual Studio ASP.net project. It used to be intermittent, I would restart devenv and they would show again(even if the layout was terrible) Anyhow now it's not showing at all. The only change I made to the project was to switch Membership providers to MySql. Even pages that have no reference to Membership don't display.Anything(page wise) that has a server control fails (displayes the message "hresult e_fail when creating com component") even if it's just a label with no programming logic.

Now when the user types A in the drpdownlist (we can type anything onthe dropdownlist, but we can superimpose a textbox on it), the dropdwn list should sort itself and show only ABC and A123.
I am a complete newbie when it comes to ASP.NET and SQL database access. I'm trying to learn so that I might become gainfully employed one day soon and better my life. I'm running through the Visual Web Developer Express 2008 beginning walkthroughs right now and I'm already stuck on the third one -- Walkthrough: Basic Data Access in Web Pages. I've installed MS SQL Server 2008 and downloaded the sample Northwind and pubs databases, and even (I think) attached the pre-built files using the DOS command: sqlcmd -S .SQLEXPRESS -i instnwd.sql. (Output was: Changed database context to 'master'. Changed database context to 'Northwind'.)
But, now, when I try to Add Connection through the Database Explorer in VWDE2008, nothing comes up in the Connect to a Database field. Shouldn't it auto-populate? If I'm supposed to manually type a name in there, what should it be? I've tried "Northwind" and "SQLEXPRESS" with no luck (getting a generic Unable to Connect message). I've verified the database is running with SQL Server Configuration Manager and that all Client Protocols are enabled.

View 2 RepliesI have two web forms inside the same project folder that will be very similar when completed. When I copy a web form and paste it in the project folder by its new name I can see the .aspx file, the aspx.cs and aspx.designer.cs all by the new name. Appears to work perfect...........Why don't these show up when I view the Solution Folder? I was hoping to copy one, make changes and rename the second one saving time. Appears to not be tied into the Project.
View 1 RepliesWhen using VS2008 and C# I choose File - New - Web Site.I use namespaces in the aspx files in the same folder.The problem is that the aspx files in one folder can not access the aspx files in other folders even though the files in each of the other folders use the same namespace followed by the folder name.
In fact, if I am in one folder and type the namespaces followed by a period, the other folder names are not displayed in intellisense, only the name of the folder name of the aspx file in which it resides is displayed on the intellisense.
How can I get the other folder names to show in intellisense from any other folder that I am working in when coding in the code behind? fyi, in the html inherit I point to the namespace, the folder name and the code behind file then in the code behind file I code the namespace, the folder name the aspx file is in and the class is the name of the code behind file.
When I use VS2008 to create a new form application, I am able to go to the Data menu select "Show Data Sources" then the "Data Sources" window appears. Then I am able to "Add New Data Source" and so on. But when I create a new Web Application. I can not do that. Am I not able to create a Data Source on web applications?
View 1 RepliesI am developing a web application in which I am suddenly facing an issue. I have a webpage which contains many controls, one of the control is JQuery color picker. Now, I am upgrading my system with telerik controls. As part of this process, I replaced textbox(txtcolor) with radcolorpicker with a different id(colorPicker). Suddenly, my code behind file is not throwing any errors like 'unable to find txtColor'. It is running successfully without build errors. But, when I open the page, system is throwing runtime exception(txtColor not found) which is correct.
I tried to change other controls with asp.net controls, still the problem persists. So, I dont think it is anything to do with telerik.
I have had a persistant problem, which occurs in "Visual Web Developer 2008" express, but also in "Visual Studio 2010"
When I drop a data control onto my webpage, and the select "Configure Data Source", the dialog box opens, but when I try and browse for the data file (could be MDB or XLS) the data file does not appear in the "Select (XML/MDB) file" - in the example below a XML file. If I set the filter to "All Files (*.*)" I can see all of the files EXCEPT the XML files.
The project is a web project, and is set to HTTP - using my local IIS.
I have a masterpage with a content area. When viewing a page in the designer the content area is so narrow it blows the page formatting to pieces. When viewed in a browser it looks fine, just looks bad in the designer.
I've seen other projects on other computers that don't have this problem ... is there a setting for this?
